Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 416 - 406: Sailing Carnival 8
The contents of the first three containers were fairly normal—all sorts of pickled foods.
The fourth container was filled with sealed wooden barrels. However, the barrels weren’t filled with Tuck Ganma, but with liquid.
Moira Lynch guessed it was probably alcohol.
Water didn’t keep for long on ships, and besides, when a crew member had passed by her earlier, Moira Lynch had caught the strong scent of alcohol on him.
Aside from these normal containers, she sensed something was wrong when she reached the fifth one.
’It’s alive?’
That’s right. The contents of this fifth container were actually alive.
Just as Moira Lynch was about to investigate more closely, a sharp rebuke suddenly came from a distance.
"Who told you you could come over here!"
In the distance, a burly, rugged-looking man with two tusks jutting from his mouth strode over.
When the man saw Moira Lynch standing in front of the fifth container, a vicious glint flashed in his eyes, and he quickened his pace.
In just a few steps, he was in front of Moira Lynch, reaching out with a large hand to grab her.
The air whistled past her ear.
Moira Lynch subconsciously took a few steps back, dodging his large hand.
She recognized the man before her. He was the ship’s vice-captain, a member of the Gigas-Tusk Boar race.
The so-called Gigas-Tusk Boars were best known for their pair of enormous and exceptionally sharp tusks.
It was said that in battle, a Gigas-Tusk Boar warrior could disembowel an enemy with their tusks, a truly gruesome sight.
For the past half-month, this vice-captain had been at The Fat Captain’s side like a silent bodyguard.
As Moira Lynch took that step back, her body bumped right into the container behind her.
The contact between her back and the container produced a loud THUD.
Immediately after, a faint sound came from inside the container, almost like a sob.
When the vice-captain saw Moira Lynch touch the container, his eyes widened in fury, and he swatted at her.
If before he had only wanted to capture Moira Lynch, this time, he was trying to kill her.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch didn’t hesitate. She leaped on top of the container, dodging the vice-captain’s attack.
Realizing this couldn’t be resolved peacefully, she decided to go all in. She first unleashed her spiritual power, disrupting the vice-captain’s visual and equilibrium systems.
This was a move she had only recently developed.
The vice-captain had flown into a rage when he saw Moira Lynch jump onto the container.
Just as he was about to attack again, his vision suddenly went black, and his body uncontrollably crumpled to one side.
"I... will... kill you."
Even so, the vice-captain’s killing intent toward Moira Lynch didn’t lessen one bit. This confirmed one thing for her: the contents of this container were definitely very important.
Watching the vice-captain struggle on the ground, trying to get up, Moira Lynch considered what to do with him.
’Let him go?’
’That’s impossible.’
’Given how he’s been screaming about killing me, letting him go is out of the question.’
She didn’t have a habit of letting a tiger return to the mountains.
’Just kill him.’
’That seems like the most logical choice, but I can’t bring myself to do it.’
While Moira Lynch was hesitating, the vice-captain, still struggling and unable to stand, suddenly pulled something that looked like a whistle from his clothes.
With his sense of balance destroyed, it took him several tries to get the whistle into his mouth.
At that moment, Moira Lynch still hadn’t realized the gravity of the situation.
The next second, a piercing whistle blast nearly shattered her eardrums.
Moira Lynch clapped her hands over her ears, watching the scene in shock.
Through her spiritual power’s senses, she detected that the moment the whistle blew, everyone on board dropped what they were doing and started rushing toward her location.
Moira Lynch now remembered what that was for.
It was an emergency distress whistle, only to be blown in times of danger. She had been given one when she first boarded the ship.
Back when she got the whistle, Moira Lynch had even complained to Shane Rhodes that in the time it took to blow it, you might as well just run.
Seeing that the closest people were about to arrive, the vice-captain on the ground, though blind, still accurately pinpointed Moira Lynch’s position. He gave her a defiant look, as if to say, ’You’re dead!’
Seeing this, Moira Lynch didn’t hesitate. She knocked the man unconscious. ’Right,’ she thought, ’I shouldn’t have been so merciful.’
She stored the unconscious vice-captain in her space, then activated her protective shield and entered Stealth Mode.
But that wasn’t all.
Behind her, a pair of pure white wings silently unfurled, carrying her into the air.
By the time Moira Lynch had left the area, the nearest crew member finally arrived in a hurry.
However, there was nothing there except for the scuff marks the vice-captain had just left on the ground.
Moira Lynch seized the opportunity to flee the area.
To avoid being seen, Moira Lynch took a long, roundabout way back to her room.
After deactivating her Invisibility, she plopped down on her bed and let out a sigh of relief.
’That almost gave me a heart attack. Good thing I reacted quickly.’
’But, even though I’m safe for now, the vice-captain is still in my space. I have to deal with him quickly. And what on earth was in that container?’
She thought of the sound that had come from inside the container.
’Whatever. I should deal with the vice-captain first.’
Surrounded by the endless ocean, it would be very easy to dispose of someone quietly.
Just as Moira Lynch was about to throw the vice-captain overboard, she noticed something was wrong.
’What is that on the vice-captain’s face? It looks like... a tear?’
As a self-proclaimed addict of novels and TV shows, a single thought immediately popped into Moira Lynch’s mind when she saw this: a human-skin mask!
As it turned out, her guess was correct. The vice-captain was indeed wearing a mask.
It wasn’t just his face; his entire body was disguised. The two tusks in his mouth were real, but they weren’t his.
In other words, the vice-captain was not from the Gigas-Tusk Boar race.
The tusks of the Gigas-Tusk Boar, due to their hardness and pristine white color, were used to create treasures that only The Royal Court could use. They were priceless and unavailable on the open market.
Because of this, the Gigas-Tusk Boar were often targeted by poachers.
Looking at the man who had transformed from a burly giant into a refined scholar after his disguise was removed, she thought, ’Could this man be a poacher?’
Thinking of this, Moira Lynch said to Patience:
"Patience, scan this person’s facial features."
