Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 391 - 381: Seeking Fortune in Danger
Moira Lynch looked at the photo of the pink planet, a sense of excitement stirring within her.
’As the saying goes, fortune favors the bold,’ she thought. ’It’s not like it costs anything, so maybe...’
After thinking it over and over, Moira Lynch finally shot up from her bed, slipped on her shoes, and went out the door, all in one fluid motion.
She arrived at Hugh Finch’s door.
Since they had already been open with each other, Moira Lynch used her spiritual power to open the door directly.
Hugh Finch, a light sleeper, opened his eyes the moment Moira Lynch entered.
He opened his eyes to see Moira Lynch standing by his bed and asked, "What is it?"
Moira Lynch didn’t waste any words, directly showing Hugh Finch the post about the planet.
"Help me figure this out. Would it be good or bad if I take it?"
Hugh Finch quickly skimmed the contents, his expression immediately turning serious.
He glanced at the time; it was just past midnight. He got out of bed, put on the Prophetic Robe that was sitting nearby, and then said to Moira Lynch, "You should go. I’ll give you the result tomorrow."
Hearing this, Moira Lynch nodded. "Okay." Then she left the room.
After a dreamless night, Moira Lynch woke up early the next morning and eagerly rushed downstairs.
It was originally Moira Lynch’s turn to cook today, but because she had been sick yesterday, she could get away with being a little lazy.
A hot, steaming breakfast was already laid out on the table.
There was soy milk, fried dough sticks, bread, milk, steamed buns, and congee—a wide variety, to say the least.
This kind of breakfast, which used to be completely ordinary, would probably attract countless envious looks if posted online now.
Since they all had huge appetites, cooking was a massive undertaking every time.
Moira Lynch walked over to the table, picked up a steamed bun, and started eating. It was her favorite—pork and eggplant.
Kai York walked out of the kitchen and saw Moira Lynch with a blissful expression, a steamed bun in her mouth.
"Moira seems to have a special fondness for things with eggplant filling, whether it’s steamed buns, dumplings, or wontons."
"To each their own. Everyone has different tastes," Shane Rhodes said as he emerged from behind.
Just as the three of them were about to finish eating, Hugh Finch finally came out of his room.
He hadn’t even had time to take off his Prophetic Robe. He looked completely drained, with dark circles under his eyes.
Seeing him like this, Kai York couldn’t help but tease, "What, did you go out stealing crops from someone’s farm last night?"
Hugh Finch just shot him a look. He didn’t feel like talking at all right now.
Seeing the breakfast on the table, he casually grabbed a fried dough stick and stuffed it in his mouth, starting to chew.
He nodded at Moira Lynch while eating.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch instantly understood what he meant. The corners of her mouth curled up into a smile she couldn’t suppress.
Probably because he was exhausted, Hugh Finch went back to his room after finishing the dough stick. "Don’t anyone wake me up until I wake up on my own."
And Moira Lynch, having gotten her answer, quickly finished the rest of her breakfast and ran to her room, leaving Kai York and Shane Rhodes to stare at each other in confusion.
"Why do I get the feeling those two are hiding a secret from us?"
Shane Rhodes watched Moira Lynch’s retreating figure, a contemplative look in his eyes. ’Last night...’
Meanwhile, after returning to the second floor, Moira Lynch had Patience quickly find the contact information for the S-rank adventurer team.
[Hello, is the planet still available? I’d like to learn more.]
「Meanwhile, in a luxuriously decorated room elsewhere.」
A young man with a pair of ears on top of his head scratched his messy, nest-like hair. His eyes were bloodshot.
Just then, a young woman came out of another room. Seeing the young man in this state, she tried to console him, "Abe, let it go. We still have a year, anyway. We can take our time."
The young man called Abe shook his head. "No. As long as this isn’t resolved, I can’t rest easy."
The young woman, who knew his personality well, sighed. "If you ask me, we just have bad luck. Running into something like this on our very first mission as an S-rank adventurer team."
At this, Abe sighed too, and the two fluffy ears on his head drooped listlessly.
"Well, what’s done is done. All we can do now is proactively look for a solution."
For the past few days, his eyes hadn’t left the Astranet for a moment. He had replied to countless private messages, but all those people went silent after learning the details.
As the two were talking, the door was forcefully thrown open from the outside, and a burly, imposing middle-aged man strode in.
Seeing him, the young woman asked, "Boss, didn’t you go to The Adventurer’s Guild to negotiate? How did it go?"
"Not good. We were set up. When I was at The Adventurer’s Guild, I overheard something outside. That planet was actually discovered a long time ago; it just was never reported."
Hearing this, neither Abe nor the young woman looked pleased. They both knew what it meant: they had been used as cannon fodder.
They had hoped The Adventurer’s Guild might help, but now, they were completely on their own.
"If it really comes to it, we’ll disband the team. You two can form a new one. I’ll take over this planet myself. I’ve managed to save a little over the years."
Hearing their captain say this, Abe and the young woman were deeply moved. "We’re a team! We can’t abandon each other. Besides, Boss, how much savings could you have? How long would it last?"
Just as they were moping, the chime of a private message suddenly sounded.
He opened it and read the message. Abe assumed the outcome would be the same as always, but he replied anyway.
[It’s still available. What would you like to know?]
On the other end, Moira Lynch thought for a moment. After all, as someone who already owned several planets, she knew a thing or two about this.
[The planet’s size, mineral vein distribution, any signs of other life, any organisms, the planetary environment—basically, the more detailed, the better.]
Not long after she sent the message, Moira Lynch received a reply: a detailed report on the planet.
Moira Lynch had Patience analyze the report’s contents. The result was that the planet was extremely dangerous, with highly active internal volcanic activity, and could erupt at any moment.
Seeing the conclusion Patience provided, Moira Lynch’s brow furrowed. However, after a moment’s hesitation, she ultimately chose to trust Hugh Finch’s word.
Moreover, the report mentioned that plants and other organisms actually existed on this planet. In other words, the planet sustained life.
’Sometimes, "very dangerous" doesn’t mean it’s truly dangerous.’
’For this planet to have survived until now, it must be hiding some kind of unknown secret.’
