Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 377 - 367: Playing a Game NPC 15
Because the player was entertaining and their stream content was very engaging, their channel had a huge audience.
So, quite a few people saw what just happened and recorded it.
In no time, news about the Snow Maiden spread across various game forums, even briefly trending on the Astranet.
Meanwhile, the Snow Maiden—Moira Lynch—was still completely oblivious to all of this, busy saving people.
The two players who had just been in peril were none other than the same two who had greeted Moira Lynch earlier.
The pair had come to the Northlands for a quest and had done their research beforehand, so they didn’t collapse from the cold like that other person.
However, they had accounted for the temperature but had overlooked the glacier beneath their feet.
This seemingly endless glacier actually concealed countless dangers beneath its thick layer of snow.
Moira Lynch had seen it clearly earlier when using Melting Snow. Hidden under this deep layer of snow was a crisscrossing network of bottomless ice crevasses.
If a player fell in, death was certain.
These two had been careless and stepped right into a crevasse, their bodies immediately beginning to fall.
Luckily, one of the players managed to do a split, jamming his legs against the sides of the opening to stop his fall.
However, he couldn’t hold on for long in that position, especially since he was also supporting the dead weight of his companion.
He was constantly slipping. He wanted to pull himself up or get his companion out first, but he knew that any movement now could be the last straw.
The biting wind howled above, and a bottomless abyss lay below. He was caught between a rock and a hard place, and the thought of just giving up and dying crossed his mind.
But they still had a quest. If they died, the quest would automatically be marked as a failure.
"Oden, what are you waiting for? Use a skill to get up!"
"You think I don’t want to? I just realized all my skills are unusable except for Ice Attribute ones."
"Then use an Ice Attribute skill! Hurry! I can’t hold on much longer."
The player called Oden said in despair, "But I don’t have any Ice Attribute skills! Don’t just yell at me, can’t you use a skill to get us out?"
"Obviously not! I don’t have any Ice Attribute skills either."
"Didn’t we buy a bunch of Ice Attribute scrolls before we came? Take them out and use them!"
"The scrolls are in my bag, but we only bought attack scrolls. They’re useless to us right now."
Just as the two were despairing, the crevasse they were trapped in began to slowly shrink.
The pair, who had been at their limit, finally got a chance to breathe. Using their arm strength, they managed to climb out of the crevasse.
"Thank you for saving us," they said, still lying on the ground without looking up.
A crevasse wouldn’t shrink for no reason. Another player must have helped them.
However, after she spoke, there was no response.
Together, the pair looked up, but there was nothing in front of them. Not even footprints.
Faintly, they saw a blurry figure slowly disappearing into the distant blizzard.
Then, an absurd thought popped into their heads. ’Could the one who just saved us have been the Snow Maiden?’
"Whatever. Since we’re safe, let’s not worry about the details. Finishing the quest is what’s important."
Oden nodded. "Yeah, let’s be more careful this time. If we fall in again, we might not be so lucky."
Besides saving players, Moira Lynch also had to rescue NPCs who were trapped in the blizzard and couldn’t find their way home.
And just like that, after saving those two players, Moira Lynch discovered a dozen or so NPCs who had gone out to hunt but were now trapped.
When these people saw the Snow Maiden appear, looks of terror filled their eyes.
After all, in the minds of these NPCs, the Snow Maiden was a harbinger of misfortune.
Wherever the Snow Maiden appeared, a blizzard was sure to follow.
These people naturally connected Moira Lynch with the blizzard raging outside.
Someone even raised their hunting weapon, preparing to attack Moira Lynch.
In response, Moira Lynch merely glanced at the person, showing no intention of engaging with them or explaining things on behalf of the Snow Maiden.
In Moira Lynch’s view, it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing for both players and NPCs to remain afraid of the Snow Maiden.
After confirming that none of them were injured, Moira Lynch turned and left.
Before she left, she casually reinforced their shelter so it wouldn’t collapse in the coming blizzard.
Watching the Snow Maiden depart, the oldest Hunter in the group spoke up. "Alright, she didn’t mean us any harm. We can head home safely once the blizzard stops."
As he spoke, he glanced behind him at the prey they had just hunted not long ago.
The weather in the Northlands was frigid. The freshly killed prey was still warm, but it wouldn’t take long for it to freeze solid.
The advantage of this was that they didn’t have to worry about the food spoiling, or even about parasites.
Because parasites simply couldn’t survive in such a cold environment.
"This kill should be enough to sustain the village for a while."
「...」
Meanwhile, Moira Lynch was wandering through the blizzard.
She discovered she could move without even using her legs, so she started floating around like a ghost.
Along the way, she saved many people, but she also scared just as many.
Just then, as Moira Lynch was searching for any sign of players or NPCs, she suddenly heard the sound of a battle.
Following the sound, she saw a giant white bird, its feathers like ice crystals, fighting against a dozen or so players.
Even while surrounded by multiple players, the bird was handling them with ease, not panicking in the slightest.
Just as Moira Lynch was about to hide and watch the show, she suddenly received a system quest notification.
[Your friend, the Blizzard Bird, is under attack by unknown assailants. Please assist it in defeating the enemy as soon as possible.]
What?!
’I’m friends with that bird?!’
After the shock wore off, Moira Lynch decided to help. After all, they were both NPCs. She understood the principle of mutual dependence—if one falls, the other is sure to follow.
These players were attacking the Blizzard Bird today; there was no guarantee they wouldn’t come after her tomorrow.
So, she had to take precautions.
With that thought, Moira Lynch slightly raised her hand. In an instant, countless sharp, thick ice spikes erupted from the snow, spreading rapidly toward the players.
The players, who were turning to deal with the Blizzard Bird, never expected a sudden sneak attack. By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late.
