Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 259: A New Way of Staging a Scam

Besides, Moira Lynch never bought into the whole limited-time discount gimmick.

Original price, sale price—she always just assumed the sale price was the real price. After all, a merchant would never let themselves take a loss.

She tried to estimate the area of Cloudsea Planet.

Yeah, she couldn’t figure it out.

So, Moira simply made a grand gesture, spending two hundred million to buy two hundred all-purpose caretaker robots in one go.

(It’s two hundred million, right? The author isn’t very good with large numbers. If I’m wrong, please point it out and I’ll fix it. ٩(ᐛ)و)

One hundred of them would be placed on Cloudsea Planet. Of the remaining one hundred, Veridian Prime and Mochina would each get thirty, and the two Garbage Stars would each get twenty.

After she clicked purchase, one hundred robots appeared before Moira.

"Patience, I’ll leave these to you."

As soon as she finished speaking, Patience immediately replied:

"No problem."

Immediately after, the status of all two hundred robots appeared on the screen in front of Moira, including the hundred that had been sent to the other planets.

The current status for all of them was "Awaiting Activation."

Moira clicked the activation button, and in an instant, all the robots whirred to life.

The robots took the remaining Land Recovery Liquid from Moira’s hands and began their work in an orderly fashion.

Watching their busy figures,

Moira sighed with satisfaction. ’Watching other people work is definitely more enjoyable than working yourself.’

However...

Looking at the robots, Moira felt like she had forgotten something.

Suddenly, it hit her—she had forgotten to send the coordinates to the various nations.

She quickly opened her private messages. Yikes, every single one of them was about to go crazy with anxiety.

She had been busy organizing the items she’d won at the auction and hadn’t been paying attention to anything online.

Now, back in her room on Caelus, the moment she opened her phone, she was hit with an overwhelming flood of information about herself.

#SHOCKING! SoySauceDrunkard is a scammer!#

#The auction was just a giant fraud!#

#The most arrogant con artist in history!#

#SoySauceDrunkard get the hell off Caelus#

#Traitor to humanity#

Good grief, each headline was more exaggerated than the last.

Still, Moira found it understandable.

If she were in their shoes, she’d be anxious too.

It was like spending your life savings on a house, only for the seller to take the money and run. No one would be able to stay calm in that situation.

After opening her private messages and sending out the coordinates one by one, Moira finally breathed a sigh of relief.

As for the online comments, Moira couldn’t be bothered. Bad publicity was still publicity, after all. Getting yelled at a bit wouldn’t kill her. If they really had guts, they could just stop buying things from her shop.

She’d been busy for so long. A quick calculation told her that the next game was only a few days away.

’Speaking of which,’ she thought, ’that "Elf and Sugar" dungeon the game system mentioned before... is it a solo instance, or will all the players enter together?’

After a moment’s thought, Moira decided not to dwell on it and to focus on preparing instead.

Given the stickiness of Elf Syrup, the first thing she had to protect was her hair.

Moira stroked her long, beautiful hair, pondering the best way to protect it.

’Hairspray?’

’A good idea, but not foolproof.’

After thinking it over, Moira’s eyes landed on the gelatin that synchronized swimmers use to coat their hair during competitions.

’A thick layer of that on my head should do the trick.’

Next was her outfit. She needed something light, simple, and easy to move in.

After getting everything ready, Moira opened her phone again. She wanted to look up how to apply the gelatin; with her thick hair, it was bound to be a hassle.

But when she did, she found that all the previous online comments about her had completely vanished.

Barely ten minutes had passed.

Moira even wondered if she had imagined it all.

A closer look revealed that various nations had all released clarification and apology videos. No wonder the change was so drastic.

Moira looked away from the news, found the video she had saved earlier, and started watching it.

It didn’t look too difficult.

But when she compared her own hair length and volume to the person in the video, Moira fell silent. The difference was just too great.

Moira tried it out on her own head. It seemed like it might just work.

Just as Moira was wrestling with her hair, her hands paused. As if sensing something, her gaze shot toward the window.

Because she had so many secrets, the curtains in Moira’s room were perennially drawn.

Fortunately, her vision was completely unaffected even in total darkness.

Moira went to the window and pulled back the curtain. In the distance, a person was collapsed on the ground, positioned squarely in front of her house.

She scanned the person with her spiritual power. They were still alive, it seemed, but with multiple bone fractures and internal bleeding. Without medical attention, they probably wouldn’t last long.

Moira frowned at the distant figure. This was Sector A; ordinary people couldn’t just wander in here.

For this person to appear here, they must also be a resident of Sector A.

Most importantly...

Moira’s gaze shifted to a certain direction, where several other people were hiding.

Moira took out her phone and dialed Aaron Ford’s number.

When Aaron Ford saw the caller ID, he was a little shocked.

’Moira Lynch?’

He checked it several times to be sure before answering.

"Miss Lynn, is there something I can help you with?" Aaron Ford asked politely.

"Um, Captain Ford, there’s a collapsed person in front of my house. Could you send someone over?"

Hearing Moira’s words, Aaron Ford immediately understood the situation. "Miss Lynn," he said urgently, "whatever you do, don’t go outside. And don’t let anyone else go out either."

After hanging up, Aaron Ford quickly arrived with his team and apprehended the person lying on the ground.

The person, who had seemed on the brink of death, miraculously scrambled to their feet the moment they saw Aaron Ford and his team. They tried to make a run for it but were immediately tackled to the ground by Ford’s people.

The commotion outside successfully drew the attention of Shane Rhodes and the two others.

By the time Moira came downstairs, she saw Aaron Ford walking in the door, with the person from before following behind him.

Moira scanned him again with her spiritual power. This time, the man’s injuries had completely healed themselves.

She immediately connected this to some kind of talent.

And sure enough, Aaron Ford’s explanation confirmed it was a new type of staged injury scam.

"Captain Ford, what exactly is going on?" Shane Rhodes asked.

Aaron Ford pointed to the person being restrained beside him and explained, "This man’s talent is faking injuries. He can perfectly mimic the effects of any kind of assault, including broken bones and internal bleeding. He then deliberately appears at people’s front doors."

"As soon as someone comes out to check on him, he immediately accuses them of having attacked him."
