Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 247: It Wants to Be My Mom
Moira Lynch’s words seemed to have piqued her opponent’s interest. He asked, "What is your ability?"
Lying on the ground, Moira rolled her eyes. ’You beat me to a pulp and now you want to ask about my ability?’
So she replied, "Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s wrong to pry into other people’s secrets?"
"I don’t have a mother," the other party answered in a calm voice.
Moira froze. A pang of guilt rose in her heart, but she quickly came to her senses.
’He’s a system made of data. It would be weirder if he *did* have a mother.’
"If you don’t mind, from now on, I’ll be your mother."
Her opponent: ...
Receiving no response, Moira paid it no mind and tapped the "Exit" button.
「Meanwhile, on the other side.」
A silver-white mechanical pod, nearly three meters tall, slowly opened, and the person inside slowly opened their eyes.
Just then, a man in a white lab coat and gold-rimmed glasses walked over, holding a blue screen covered in dazzling data.
"How did it feel this time?" The man pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses.
The person in the silver-white pod slowly stretched their limbs, turned to the man, and asked, "Is there some kind of bug in your program?"
The man’s head shot up, and he said with some agitation, "That’s absolutely impossible! You can question my character, but you absolutely cannot question my genius design."
"Then why did it want to be my mother?"
"What? You’re talking nonsense," the man retorted instinctively.
"Believe it or not."
The man stepped out of the pod and went to the changing room, recalling his recent experiences as he changed.
According to Ellers, this was a combat system that could grow, and his testing over this period had indeed confirmed it.
After a period of interaction, the system’s combat skills were improving at a visible rate.
However, according to Ellers, there was only one combat system, yet he had sensed four completely different fighting styles inside—or rather, four people with completely different personalities.
One focused on offense, using attack as defense. Another focused on speed, avoiding direct confrontation before delivering a fatal blow at a critical moment. The third was more focused on defense, like an impenetrable wall.
As for the last one, their style was completely chaotic, occasionally resorting to some dirty tricks.
If it weren’t inside the system, he would have thought it was the fighting style of a hoodlum who’d spent their life in the slums, stirring up trouble.
「On Caelus.」
Moira, having just exited the combat mode, suddenly felt her nose itch, followed by several huge sneezes.
She looked at the time. Several hours had passed. She’d actually spent that long inside this time.
Moreover, besides her still-aching body, Moira felt that her spiritual power seemed extremely active—no, it would be more accurate to say it was agitated.
CRASH! A nearby vase hit the floor.
It was like it was on stimulants.
These invisible tendrils made of spiritual power began to wreak havoc everywhere.
Just then, the Healing Device also sounded an alarm.
[Warning: Spiritual power is overabundant. Please engage in an activity that consumes spiritual power.]
’An activity that consumes spiritual power?’
Moira thought for a moment. The only thing for it was to make weapons.
The Gun of Destruction’s ability was too terrifying, so she didn’t plan on making any more. However, she could make a few more Healing Spears and Space Blades.
No sooner said than done. Moira bounded up the stairs to the second floor, returned to her room, and locked the door from the inside.
Drawing on her previous experience, Moira knew the Gun of Destruction had a higher affinity for metal, while the Healing Spear and Space Blade were more compatible with jade and diamonds. Thus, she chose to work with the latter two materials.
Also, since it was her first time crafting before—and for her own people—she had demanded perfection from herself at every step. This time, she decided to lower her standards a little.
’I won’t bother with an infinite power source this time. That way, I can also make bullets and earn extra money selling them.’
’What was I thinking before, chasing after some infinite power source? Isn’t earning money two ways better?’
Besides, she had all this energy to burn. As the saying goes, she was full and had nothing better to do.
「Five days passed.」
「Downstairs.」
Kai York, with a freshly fried dough stick dangling from his mouth, looked worriedly toward the second floor.
"Boss, it’s been several days. Moira hasn’t come out of her room at all. You don’t think something happened to her, do you?"
Shane Rhodes, chewing on his own dough stick, replied without looking up, "What could happen to her?"
"Like, for example... for example..."
Kai York tried to come up with an example for a while but couldn’t think of anything. For someone as powerful as Moira, he had no idea what kind of trouble she could possibly get into.
If anything, the probability of one of them getting into trouble was much higher.
Not giving up, he turned to Hugh Finch. "Hugh, why don’t you do a divination for Moira? I remember you haven’t used your divination for today, right?"
After finishing his dough stick, Hugh Finch elegantly picked up a napkin to wipe the grease from his mouth and hands. "I’ve already divined it."
"And the result?" Kai York asked anxiously.
"The God of Wealth has descended, bringing great fortune. Moira should be coming into a lot of money soon."
Hearing Hugh Finch’s words, Kai York seemed to realize something and nodded. "You’re scarily accurate."
Sensing the hidden meaning in his words, Shane Rhodes looked at Kai York. "What did you do?"
Kai York didn’t hide anything and confessed, "Well, it’s my old man. A few days ago, I took some of the medicinal wine Moira brewed back home. The old man fell in love with it after one sip and is insisting I bring him some more."
"And you agreed?" Hugh Finch said.
Kai York waved his hands frantically. "Of course not! It’s not my stuff, how could I make that decision? I was planning to discuss it with Moira."
"Money isn’t worth much anymore," Hugh Finch noted. "What do you plan to trade for it?"
Shane Rhodes glanced at Kai York, his eyes deep with thought.
Kai York didn’t notice anything amiss and said with a goofy grin, "I don’t know. But my old man collected a lot of jade when he was younger. He originally planned to leave it for us kids, but who knew something like this would happen."
After hearing Kai York’s words, Shane Rhodes shot up from his stool. "I have something to do. I’m heading out."
Hugh Finch followed right behind him. "I also have something to take care of, so I’m going out for a bit. And Kai, don’t you dare disturb Moira, you hear me?"
It wasn’t until their backs had completely disappeared from view that it finally dawned on Kai York. "Fuck! Shane! Hugh! You two shameless, despicable bastards!"
With that, Kai York also shot to his feet and sprinted home without another word.
As he ran, he cursed Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch, calling them animals for tricking him into revealing his secret.
