Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 240: Saving the Oasis 12
After continuously tossing them for several minutes, Moira Lynch finally called a halt.
The desert below was now covered in a thin layer of blue ice. The half-eaten giant Cactus and numerous Petalwing Beetles were frozen in place.
Suddenly, the sound of explosions echoed from below.
Upon closer inspection, the frozen bodies of the Petalwing Beetles were shattering, unable to withstand the extreme cold.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch’s eyes widened. She had attacked these Petalwing Beetles for the gallbladders inside them.
’It’s fine if their bodies shatter, but at least leave the gallbladders behind!’
’Otherwise, she would have wasted so many ice rocks for nothing. What a huge loss that would be.’
She hadn’t made such an unprofitable deal in a very long time.
’Thinking back, ever since the game appeared, she’d always been the one quietly making a fortune.’
Fortunately, it was as if the heavens had heard her prayers. After the Petalwing Beetles’ bodies shattered, something seemed to have been left behind.
They were blue, teardrop-shaped crystals.
With a bit of information from Patience, Moira Lynch learned that these blue crystals were the Petalwing Beetles’ gallbladders.
Hugh Finch had naturally noticed these blue crystals as well and couldn’t help but marvel, "I never would’ve thought these bugs would have something so beautiful inside them."
Then, as if remembering something, he turned to Moira Lynch. "Is this the key you mentioned for restoring the ability to farm?"
Moira Lynch nodded, picking up one of the blue crystals. "Dilute this with water and spray it on the soil. Just one tiny crystal like this can kill every last bug within at least a hundred acres of land."
This stuff was, one could say, a hundred times more potent than insecticide water.
This "one hundred acres" figure had been researched by The Kessari Tribe.
It wasn’t that using it on less than a hundred acres would be harmful, but if it was diluted with too little water or spread too thinly, the smell would be awful.
However, the effect of this gallbladder liquid was also temporary. One application would last for about half a year.
The number of Petalwing Beetles just eliminated by Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch was countless. A rough estimate would be in the tens of thousands.
After an hour, the two of them had collected all the blue gallbladders from the ground.
Knowing how important these were, they searched with extreme care, only stopping after they were certain not a single one had been missed.
During the process, Moira Lynch did a rough scan with her spiritual power. They had just collected about fifty thousand gallbladders.
Converted to land area, that would be five million acres.
A quantity like this was still far from enough.
Not to mention, the pest control effect wasn’t permanent, so the real utility was much lower than what five million acres might suggest.
As she was thinking, it suddenly occurred to Moira Lynch: what would happen if she put a blue gallbladder into the Pharmacy Box?
No sooner said than done.
Moira Lynch picked out the largest one, secretly put it into her inventory space, and then stuffed it into the Pharmacy Box.
When the blue gallbladder disappeared, Moira Lynch knew she was already halfway to success.
Immediately, two new buttons appeared on the Pharmacy Box: Insecticide and Land Recovery Liquid.
Insecticide, as the name implied, was a Medicine specifically for dealing with bugs.
The Land Recovery Liquid, on the other hand, could transform barren soil with no nutrients into fertile land suitable for plant growth.
’This Land Recovery Liquid seems even more suitable for my Cloudsea Planet.’
Next, after discussing it with Hugh Finch, Moira Lynch decided they would specifically hunt Petalwing Beetles.
Moira Lynch had plenty of ice rock; the difficult part was finding traces of the Petalwing Beetles. The desert was so vast, it was no easy task to locate them.
However, while they couldn’t find the Petalwing Beetles, they could make the beetles come to them.
She had learned from Patience that these bugs had low intelligence and enormous appetites. They were in a near-constant state of hunger, which meant they were almost always on the move, searching for food.
Because of this, they were extremely sensitive to the scent of anything edible.
Previously, it was because Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch had damaged the skin of the giant Cactus while collecting its liquid and picking Cactus Fruit that they had attracted the beetles.
If that was the case, then things were simple.
Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch went out of their way to find a Fructoscorp, killed it, and left it on the ground. The two of them then rode their Flying Device and hid in the sky.
Before half an hour had passed, a familiar stirring came from beneath the ground.
A minute later, the first bug burrowed out from under the sand, followed by more and more.
When the time was right, the two would start tossing cold rocks down below.
Ice flowers bloomed one after another, and blue gallbladders were pocketed by the pair, one by one.
Using this method, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch collected a full two hundred thousand blue gallbladders before nightfall.
As the sky darkened, the temperature dropped instantly. Moira Lynch looked at her own skin, which was gradually turning pale, and said to Hugh Finch beside her, "We need to find a place to rest."
’It would be best to find an oasis. Nights on Planet Kharis are extremely dangerous.’
Once night fell, without the scorching heat of the day, all the predators came out.
Moira Lynch carefully scanned the area with her spiritual power. The nearest oasis was about two thousand meters away.
"That way," Moira Lynch said, pointing in the direction of the oasis.
Hearing this, Hugh Finch didn’t hesitate for a moment, piloting the Flying Device in that direction.
Along the way, they saw that the desert, which was empty during the day, became quite lively at night.
As they flew, a vibrant Floral Sea suddenly appeared before them.
"Moira, look down there. Those should be the flowers of the Gilded Emperor Scorpion, right?"
Looking in the direction he pointed, she saw they were indeed the flowers of the Gilded Emperor Scorpion.
The Gilded Emperor Scorpions are extremely afraid of the cold, but at night, they extend the flowers on their bodies above ground to collect moisture.
Of course, this was a very dangerous act. After all, throughout the entire desert, there were quite a few creatures that coveted their flowers, with The Kessari Tribe being the most obsessed.
Therefore, to prevent their flowers from being stolen when they were at their most vulnerable, these Gilded Emperor Scorpions would surround the area with quicksand. Anyone who entered would immediately be trapped.
After sunrise, these unlucky souls would become breakfast for the newly awakened Gilded Emperor Scorpions.
’This must be their version of entrapment.’
Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch exchanged a glance.
Hugh Finch controlled the Flying Device’s altitude while Moira Lynch hung upside down from it, a sharp sickle in hand, and began to harvest the flowers one by one.
Half an hour later, the two of them safely left the area.
What the pair didn’t know was that not long after they left, several cloaked figures emerged from the sand, letting out furious cries as they stared at the bare patch of desert before them.
