Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 198: Island Survival 22
It was undeniable that Moira Lynch had been preoccupied with Shirley Blackwood. It was just that she lacked a good reason to risk a confrontation, and her own strength was too limited—she was no match for Shirley.
’Could it be because...’
Moira Lynch suddenly remembered the green Guardian Crystal Stone she had obtained from inside The Jade Serpent.
She touched the spot where she kept the Guardian Crystal Stone. ’Could this be why?’
Although she wasn’t sure, her intuition told her that this Guardian Crystal Stone was the reason for her recent good fortune.
She now had more confidence in dealing with Shirley Blackwood.
Just then, Moira Lynch heard someone shouting in the distance.
Looking in the direction of the voice, she saw a person yelling and frantically waving a piece of clothing at her.
"Hey, come back! It’s dangerous in the sea."
Moira Lynch recognized the voice as one of the people from yesterday. ’I can’t believe they came back here,’ she thought. ’I let my guard down.’
To avoid arousing unnecessary suspicion, Moira Lynch swam toward the person.
Of course, she only did so after confirming there was no ambush nearby.
There was another very important reason: she recognized the person waving at her.
She had seen him before with Redlight, also known as Timothy Murphy.
Sure enough, as Moira Lynch drew closer, the man recognized her.
"Oh, it’s you! I’m Everrise. By the way, what were you doing out in the sea?"
"Fishing."
Moira Lynch shook the water from her body and casually gave an excuse that sounded a bit perfunctory, yet plausible.
"Are you alone? Are the other three not with you?" Everrise asked, glancing around.
Seeing his gesture, Moira Lynch shattered his hopes. "Don’t bother looking. It’s just me. I don’t know where the others are either."
Hearing this, Everrise’s eyes widened in shock. "You didn’t buy a team-up item?"
’Team-up items aren’t expensive. With the abilities of those four, they should have been able to afford one.’
"Didn’t want to."
Moira Lynch maintained the cool, aloof image she had at the base.
Everrise wasn’t surprised by Moira Lynch’s curt reply. After all, her reputation at the base was well-known among them.
It wasn’t that Moira Lynch was hard to get along with; she just never gave anyone the chance.
"By the way, several of my other companions haven’t returned yet. They’re all from the base, you’ve probably seen them. Since you’re alone, do you want to team up with us?"
Although Moira Lynch’s talent was no secret at the base, a player who had awakened the Divination Talent had performed a reading on her. The conclusions varied slightly, but they all agreed on one thing: Moira Lynch’s talent was definitely not that simple.
Communicating with animals was likely just one aspect of her ability.
Moira Lynch refused. "No, thanks. I’m not alone."
"But, didn’t you just say..." Everrise was bewildered. ’Did I hear her wrong?’
Just then, his eyes shot wide open. He took a step forward, shielding Moira Lynch behind him and assuming a combat stance.
"Danger! Get out of here, I’ll cover your retreat!"
Everrise’s talent was Danger Prediction, which allowed him to sense approaching danger in advance, similar to Spider-Man’s spider-sense.
He had barely finished speaking when a massive figure closed in on their position like a bolt of lightning.
It had a powerful, muscular body, and its beautiful fur flowed in the air as it ran.
However, Everrise was in no mood to admire it.
’What a huge wolf!’
Everrise quickly calculated the odds of the two of them escaping safely.
Just as Everrise was about to use his gun to stop the Black Wolf and then use an item to escape with Moira Lynch, he heard her voice from behind him.
"Don’t worry. It’s here for me."
As she spoke, Everrise froze. He turned his head, his expression stiff. "It’s here for you?"
"Is that what you meant when you said you weren’t alone?"
"Yep."
The Black Wolf stopped five or six meters away from them. It looked at Moira Lynch with its golden eyes and let out a cry. "AWOO."
’What are you doing all the way out here?’
Moira Lynch walked past Everrise and approached the Black Wolf.
"By the way, if you have nothing better to do, you should probably build a boat."
Hearing Moira Lynch’s words, Everrise subconsciously asked, "Is something going to happen on this island?"
Moira Lynch thought for a moment before replying, "Not necessarily. There’s an undersea volcano beneath this island that has met the conditions for an eruption, but there are no signs of it erupting just yet."
A volcano meeting the conditions for eruption didn’t mean it would blow immediately. But given the way the game system operated, Moira Lynch felt the probability of an eruption was very high.
"Okay, I understand."
Everrise chose to believe Moira Lynch.
After all, aside from SoySauceDrunkard, Moira Lynch and her group had never been wrong so far.
Moira Lynch was very satisfied to see Everrise take her advice so readily.
She leaped onto the Black Wolf’s back, and with a few bounds, they disappeared from his sight.
Not long after Moira Lynch left, Redlight returned with the rest of his team, dragging a wild deer that weighed several hundred pounds behind them.
"You guys go process this deer. Try to keep the hide as intact as possible."
After giving the order, Redlight saw Everrise standing by the sea with a furrowed brow. He walked over and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Captain, I just ran into Moira Lynch."
Hearing Moira Lynch’s name, Redlight instantly became alert.
"Where is she? Who was with her?"
Everrise shook his head. "No one. She was alone, but she had a black wolf with her. I invited her to join us, but she refused. Before she left, though, she told us to build a boat."
"Build a boat? Did she give a reason?" Redlight asked.
"She said there’s an undersea volcano beneath this deserted island that has met all the conditions for an eruption and could blow at any time. But it seemed like she wasn’t certain if it would actually erupt."
"If she said that, she must be fairly certain. We’ll listen to her. We’ll spend today gathering materials for the boat and start building it tomorrow."
Just then, a woman with a neat, short haircut walked over.
Her talent was Super-Hearing, so she had easily overheard their conversation.
"Captain, isn’t that a bit rash? Building a boat is too time-consuming. Don’t we still need to explore the species on this island?"
"We can explore the ocean, too. Besides, haven’t you noticed? It took us twice as long to find prey today as it did before. And without a Learning Machine, we have no way of determining the uses of the plants on this island."
Redlight’s expression was serious. "Instead of wasting time on the island, we might as well try our luck in the sea. You have to realize, the ocean here is much, much larger than the island."
