Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 196: Deserted Island Survival 20
’These mantis shrimp look pretty plump, and they’re a good size. I can sun-dry some sea salt later and make salt-baked mantis shrimp.’
For a while, Moira Lynch caught one mantis shrimp after another, but she still couldn’t find any trace of the purple snails.
Just then, Moira Lynch suddenly heard waves of startled cries coming from not far away.
As she was wondering about it, she suddenly saw a blue line on the surface of the sea, rapidly approaching the shore.
Immediately after, Moira Lynch felt a tingling, numbing sensation spread throughout her body from where her feet touched the water.
Realizing something was wrong, Moira Lynch didn’t hesitate for a second and ran toward the beach.
Finally, just a second before the blue line caught up to her, she got out of the water.
Before she could even breathe a sigh of relief, she heard a CRACKLING sound coming from the water.
Looking back at the water, countless arcs of blue electricity were raging through it.
Some fish and shellfish that couldn’t escape in time were shocked by the current and stopped moving.
’This blue current couldn’t have just appeared out of nowhere.’
So, Moira Lynch dug a hole in the sand and guided a small amount of the seawater, which was flashing with blue electricity, into it.
The seawater quickly seeped through the sand and into the ground.
Once the water had completely disappeared, many small, light blue dots were left in the hole. Upon closer inspection, these dots turned out to be tiny blue insects.
[Azurevolt Mite: A microorganism active in the ocean. It releases a special bio-current from its body, which has the effect of altering water quality. In any sea area they inhabit, the water will become exceptionally clean.
A single Azurevolt Mite releases a limited amount of electricity, but the power released by a huge number of them is terrifying, capable of easily taking the life of a Titanbear.
P.S. Azurevolt Mites can only live in seawater.]
’In other words, they can only purify seawater.’
’Purifying the sea... isn’t that exactly what I need?’
So, Moira Lynch began collecting the Azurevolt Mites that had washed ashore.
At the same time, as she gazed at the vast, boundless sea before her, an idea suddenly sparked in her mind.
Before, she had only focused on gathering resources on the island, completely forgetting that there was an entire ocean here.
Since she had already decided to hatch a Cloudsea Whale, she would definitely need to prepare its food in advance.
Although there was a small ocean inside her space, an adult Cloudsea Whale could grow to a thousand meters or even larger. Her small ocean clearly wouldn’t be enough to feed it.
She recalled the reports on Planet Nakko; although it had vast oceans, there was no life in its waters.
Thinking of this, Moira Lynch suddenly felt that she had a lot to do and not much time to do it.
Looking at the Azurevolt Mites floating on the sea’s surface, Moira Lynch had originally wanted to raise them in her small ocean, but she was afraid they might accidentally harm the other fish in there.
After all, she had seen the power of these Azurevolt Mites with her own eyes.
So, Moira Lynch dug a pond in her space to temporarily house the Azurevolt Mites. After the game was over, she would release them on that Garbage Star to improve its water quality.
No sooner said than done.
The pond was dug in no time.
Moira Lynch first filled it with a small amount of seawater, then began collecting the Azurevolt Mites in large quantities.
Because they were planktonic organisms, Moira Lynch had no trouble collecting them.
She soon gathered up all the nearby Azurevolt Mites.
’How are they all gone? I haven’t collected enough yet.’
Just as Moira Lynch was lamenting the small number of Azurevolt Mites, she suddenly noticed something under the water’s surface, furtively eating the fish, shrimp, and crabs that had just been electrocuted.
At first, Moira Lynch didn’t pay it much mind, thinking it was just some small scavenger taking advantage of the situation. But then, in the beam of her flashlight, the creatures’ bodies revealed a beautiful purple color.
Moira Lynch then realized that these opportunistic predators were the very purple snails she had been searching so hard for.
[Heavenly Dream Sea Snail: A nocturnal sea snail with an elongated body. Its surface is a beautiful purple. It is highly venomous. To capture prey, they have evolved a powerful toxin that is lethal on contact. Therefore, do not touch their heads when capturing them, and absolutely do not play with them in your hands.]
Hearing Patience’s introduction, Moira Lynch froze in her tracks.
She remembered the Black Wolf telling her to find the purple snails, crush them, and smear them on the bearskin. An unsettling thought crossed her mind.
"Patience, the Heavenly Dream Sea Snail’s toxin isn’t on its surface, is it?"
[No. The Heavenly Dream Sea Snail’s purple color comes from consuming a type of seaweed called "Heavenly Dream" when they are young. This seaweed emits an odor that can paralyze an enemy’s nervous system, preventing them from being noticed.]
’So that’s how it is.’
Moira Lynch estimated the size of the bearskin and the Heavenly Dream Sea Snails, then caught several dozen of them in one go.
The last step was to crush them and smear them on the bearskin.
Moira Lynch looked at the sky and decided to deal with this tomorrow.
Since there were people nearby, she didn’t take out her RV today. Instead, she let the Black Wolf out.
Seeing this, the Black Wolf expertly found a spot and curled itself into a ball, while Moira Lynch skillfully nestled into its embrace.
"I’ve found the purple snails. Now you can finally tell me what you want me to get," Moira Lynch said.
It seemed surprised that Moira Lynch’s luck was so good, finding the Heavenly Dream Sea Snails on her very first day. After a moment of thought, it let out a howl. "AWOO."
’I want you to help me get a stone back.’
"A stone? What kind of stone?"
’For the Black Wolf to be so fixated on it, that stone must be something special.’
"AWOO."
’I don’t know what kind of stone it is. I found it when I was a cub, under the root of a huge plant—the one you call the Soul Resurrection Grass.’
’I knew it was something good back then, but it was too big, so I planned to eat it after I grew up. But then a thief stole it.’
At this, the Black Wolf’s tone became indignant.
"How long ago did this happen?" Moira Lynch asked.
"AWOO."
’Two years.’
"After so long, the stone might have been digested by now."
"AWOO."
’It hasn’t been digested. I can feel it. That Shirley Blackwood fled this island right after she stole my stone, but I can feel that she’s recently returned.’
Hearing the Black Wolf mention Shirley Blackwood, Moira Lynch’s body stiffened. She looked up at the Black Wolf, her face a mask of disbelief.
"Shirley Blackwood stole your stone? Are you sure?"
"AWOO."
’Of course.’
Then, the Black Wolf’s golden eyes stared at Moira Lynch. "AWOO."
’You’re not scared, are you?’
Moira Lynch really wanted to nod, but she didn’t.
’After all, I’ve come this far. It would be a shame to give up halfway.’
Besides, she had tailed Shirley Blackwood before and knew she was injured—and not lightly.
