Chapter 581 - Day MMCXXXIX, Part III
I had no answer to her question, and my faith in Will almost instantly crumbled despite the fact that he was looking calm and confident himself. There was no sign of worry on his face.
In complete opposition to us. A couple of people immediately looked at me, expecting me to rush over there, and send him back and replace him, but I didn’t. I promised him to let him decide when to stop fighting, and I was torn between keeping it or just blasting there, to potentially save his life.
Zor’xal was clearly feeling triumphant about what just happened. He was looking straight at Ashal Kal Anur with a sly smirk of confidence on his frog-like face.
The imperial official was tense. His facial expression was showing worry. I couldn’t understand really the political weights connected to the whole thing, but they had to be severe since he was taking it so seriously.
Suddenly I spotted Ki’rai very close to the holoprojection, looking straight at Will’s face.
– He is going to win – she announced, getting attention from people around.
– Why are you so confident? – asked Adam.
He didn’t get an answer, and the gong announced the beginning of the fight.
Will immediately levitated in the air, grabbing his sword in both hands. The alien followed him while simultaneously pulling his hand out of the sleeve and stretching it towards the human. The two shields and left and right sides of the human suddenly moved, getting closer to him, like they were being pushed, but he himself didn’t show any signs of struggling with psychic powers that tried to crush him.
This clearly surprised the alien, as he slightly tilted his head to the side. He then moved both hands closer to his chest, while sticking elbows further back. Will immediately reacted and several golden shields appeared out of the thin air forming a giant structure in front of him, like a partially spherical honeycomb.
[0)ᴠʟ Nal pushed his hands, and the whole arena went through the series of tremors as the whole part slightly in front, and behind Will got pressed down, and pushed. The walls got decimated, turned to rubble, and the remaining, still intact glass, created during the previous fight, got shattered. The amount of destruction was devastating, as even the buildings behind the arena got crushed.
In the waiting room, people had to desperately look for something to grab to keep their balance. Zor’xal’s entourage all fell to the ground, with only the emperor still remaining visible on his flying chair.
Even Ashal Kal Anur felt some distress with the power displayed by the Calludin.
With all that, Will still remained unmoved. The shields flew to the sides revealing him in full glory, as he rose his sword high, a blast of the white, blinding light slammed into the alien. It melted the ground like it was made of butter, but got blocked by a bubble that Nall created to protect himself.
When the light vanished, he focused his psychic powers on the attack again. he moved his hands, twisting them in the air, and the shields around Will got displaced as they blocked the terrifying abilities of the Calludin. The pressure was so immense that some of them even cracked, but they did not break.
– Unbelievable – escaped Katri Xel Avakadaisu’s mouth as she looked at will with a focus I never saw her showcasing before.
Will swung his blade, and the alien avoided by flying to the side, but the attack still cut the remaining walls behind him, leaving a deep mark.
For the first time, the expression on the alien’s face switched from complete peace to a slight display of concern or even anger. The tumor-like formations on his head were pulsating vigorously, and all four eyes got a bit narrower.
He again moved his hand like he was crushing and twisting something invisible, and the shields around Will got yet again displaced by the power pressing on them, slowly being pushed closer and closer to the paladin, until they completely enclosed him in spheric formation, which still was being pushed.
Some of them started to crumble, but such a devastating display of power also took its toll on the Calludin. Trickles of blood were pouring down from the two holes the alien had for a nose. Then suddenly all of the shields shattered, and a humming sound of incredible intensity filled the arena. The golden bits and pieces were sent flying around with such a speed, that they easily knocked down the remainings of the walls surrounding the arena, and even rained on the structures hidden behind them, unaffected by the previous attack of Nall.
They revealed Will, surrounded by the light with white wings formed by this strange glorious, even holy, energy. In his full glory, he blasted through the air, breaching a barrier of sound, and just appearing in front of the Calludin. He swing his sword held in both hands with such a speed, that it was impossible to track.
The blade went through the alien’s flesh like a knife would through warm butter, decimating ruins behind, and even cutting a protective barrier surrounding Zor’xal. It left a giant crevasse reaching further into the buildings on the horizon now revealed when almost all the walls were gone.
The only remaining pieces were the reinforced parts on which the emperor and imperial official were positioned.
With astonishment, pride, and happiness mixed into one strange emotion, Ashal Kal Anur rose from his throne and started clapping. Then he even spoke, directing his words to Zor’xal.
– He just announced the end of this tournament and called the emperor a failure – said Katri Xel Avakadaisu with a shock displayed on her face.
Zor’xal was in such surprise mixed with fear that he couldn’t even respond. It was a skill he was being traped in his own body, unable to control any of it.
The waiting room just exploded in loud cheers and other displays of sheer happiness.
Despite all of that Ashal Kal Anur was still talking.
