Another Stupid Isekai

Chapter 371 - Day MDCLV, Part I

The very moment I moved, she almost jumped out of the bed.

– Morning. I’m making breakfast.

She needed a few seconds to calm down. One peak told me she was embarrassed.

[0)ᴠʟ – Good morning – she eventually spoke.

I pulled out a pan and cracked some eggs. I wished I had some beacon, but I didn’t, so just the eggs had to do.

– I… I should go – she squeezed out.

– First, you should eat breakfast. Who knows when you will be able to eat something on the run.

I heard her standing from the couch, then she made few steps closer to me.

– You don’t care, do you? Somebody chased by the gangsters comes to you, and you don’t feel even a bit of compassion.

I turned from the pan to face her.

– What about you? Do you care about the guy whose home you invaded, and pulled into your mess? Did you even once thought about me? About my story? What makes you think it’s not worse than yours?

She opened her mouth to say something, but couldn’t.

– That’s what I thought – I said, and turned back to the food.

She stood there like that for a while, just looking at her shoes, then she finally spoke again.

– Can I use your bathroom?

– Yes.

She left and I finished cooking. Then divided the food between two plates. Those ended up on the table with a bottle of ketchup and two forks. I started eating without waiting for her.

She returned after a while, and there was something different about her, but I couldn’t tell what. She sat next to me and started eating, but it didn’t take her long since she had to stop to tell me something.

– I’m sorry… I got you into my mess, and all I could think was myself, even when you already helped me so much.  I don’t know why did you even do this…

– Because when I needed help, nobody gave it to me. I learned that there are very few people who would put others before themselves. Now there is one more, or at least that’s something I would like to think about myself.

She slowly nodded.

– Thank you. You pushed me to realize that I can’t run forever, and I have to take some actions to stop this mess.

– Good, because running away doesn’t fix problems.

– I called my friend. She will help me. Her father is a lawyer.

– You want him to tell you what to do?

– Yes. I should have done it from the beginning, but I was ashamed…

– Ashamed?

– This is so stupid…

– I’m not gonna pretend like a have a whole day to listen to your story, but I’m gonna tell you this. Who better to listen to your story, than a random stranger who won’t be in your life, and whom you will forget in a couple of days?

She smiled at me, and after biting her lower lip finally made her mind.

– I come from a wealthy family, and my father is a very busy man. No to mention he is very strict. I wanted him to focus more on the family, but work was always more important. So I started partying, and my grades dropped.

– Highschool?

– Yes. My last year.

I nodded.

– So… One thing led to another, and I met a guy… – she smiled. – He was not like anybody I met before. Funny, handsome, smart… But my father would never accept him, so we dated in secrecy.

– Remember when I told you that I don’t have a whole day? Well, I don’t. I need to go to work soon.

– You want to hear the story, or not?

– Just talk… I’m gonna make myself some sandwiches.

I went to prepare some food to take with me to work, and she continued.

– He was from a poor family and had to deal drugs to survive. I was not happy about that and pressured him to stop. So he came up with this last deal, and I decided to go with him. It was supposed to be simple. Just cash for the drugs, and we are out. But…

I didn’t say a thing when she stopped talking, she clearly needed a moment.

– W-when w-we go-go t-there – she started sobbing. – So-something w-went w-wrong, a-and t-they k-killed a-a a guy. Oh god!

She went into full cry. I stopped and came closer. To be honest I didn’t know what to do. She clearly had to get it out of her system. Still, I had no idea how to react.

I ended up crouching next to her with my hand on her shoulder.

– I’ll make you some tea. Everything will be fine. Don’t worry.

She nodded while fighting with tears. Wiping her face with the backs of her both hands.

I poured some water into the kettle, and then placed it on the stove. I just had a regular black tea from the closest market, and not even any sugar, but I prepared what I could. Five minutes later she had a mug full of tee in front of her and was starring at it like it had every answer to her life.

– I need to go – she said.

– Stay as long as you need. They won’t find you here.

Then, just to prove me wrong, somebody knocked on the door to the storage house.

– Rachel?! Are you there?! It’s me!

– Patricia?!

The girl just ran to the door and opened it. A white blonde got inside. She was wearing a skirt, knee-high socks, and a jacket over a white shirt.

They hugged tightly.

– I thought you were dead. You wouldn’t answer your phone, and… – started Patricia.

– I’m sorry. I didn’t know what to do. We ran, and then we had to split. I didn’t even know if he is alive – Rachel interrupted her.

– Everybody is looking for you. Your father is going mad!

I didn’t even have a moment to think what the hell was going on when a bunch of guys just paraded inside my new home, like it was theirs, scaring the shit out of the girls.
