Chapter 246 - Day DCCXCIV
I started the day with my usual routine. First bathhouse, then cafeteria. When I was refreshed, and my belly was full, I went to visit hatta in his office. The guards had to be already notified, as they even opened the door for me.
Inside the bright room, well lighted up by all the olive lamps, I found Hatta behind his desk, and across was sitting Amit.
– Morning.
– Good to see you peter – said Hatta.
Amit just nodded.
– So, how was it? I bet it was a tough battle – the leader of Wuxia continued.
I passed by them and went to sit on the couch.
– Yep. A bit though, but I soon got a grip of it, and it went rather smooth.
They followed me and sat down around the table.
– Details – said Amit.
– Yeah, details. That thing almost wiped the entire city. We want to know more.
I sighed and proceeded to describe the first encounter as best as I could. Then I also added few facts from the fights with other orcs to paint a better picture. They listened without a word, letting me talk until I was finished.
[0)ᴠʟ – Damn. So you are on pair with that thing now? – asked Hatta.
– No. I’m stronger.
– That’s what you get for hunting every day alone in all those crazy places – added Amit.
– Well, the most important thing is that we can now properly fight back even if we get invaded again – said Hatta.
– I wouldn’t be so sure. There is plenty of monsters further away. Giants you encountered on your way to Uhm’s for example, and who knows what in other parts of this crazy place. By the way, we should watch the gate leading to wastelands. Who knows what’s out there…
– We already do, Peter, and it’s a very peaceful place. Seems like nothing lives there – said Amit. – No reports of anything for dozens of weeks.
– I wouldn’t be so sure, so keep your eyes open.
– You know something? – asked Hatta.
I sighed.
– Call it a hunch, but I think that place is dangerous as hell. Who knows what’s left by Bahumdabar’s.
– Well… We know that there is something out there. A flying city for sure, and probably many other things. Maybe even the crazy aliens are still alive, but even if they are there, it has to be very far away – said Hatta. – But we will keep our eyes open.
– Yeah, but why are you bringing this up now? – Asked Amit.
– Let’s say I’m onto something, but can’t share the details yet. I’ll tell you more as I confirm few things.
– What do you mean by that? We shouldn’t keep secrets from each other. You know exactly how that ends – said Hatta.
– I just told you. I’m not keeping anything from you. I just believe we should watch out for that part of the world. Treat me just like a concerned citizen.
– Yeah… That’s some bullshit, Peter. You are a bad liar – pointed out Amit.
I started to panic a bit. My mind was desperately trying to figure a way out of this situation I put myself in. There was no way I was going to tell them about Ki’rei and Xuvi.
– I just had plenty of time to think about the history of this damn place, and I got to the conclusion that’s the most dangerous place. I’m gonna go out there eventually to scout, and see. There is no secret here. I need to confirm my thoughts, that’s all.
Amit wasn’t looking like he was convinced, but Hatta accepted my words with a simple nod.
– We can arrange a party right now to go out there and have a look – lieutenant pointed out.
– And what if some of those crazy Bahumdabar’s are still out there? Do you want to send a bunch of people who won’t be able to hide properly, and will lure those monsters here? Who knows how strong they were? Definitely stronger than us, that’s for sure.
– There is some truth in what he is saying – Hatta pointed out.
– Ok. We will wait, but I want a detailed report from you on what you saw out there when you return – said Amit.
– Of course, but I will need some time. I need to pick up few skills to lower the risk. I already have some, but the more the better.
– I trust you, Peter – said Hatta.
I nodded.
– Since the rest of the people will be returning tomorrow, maybe we should discuss this in a bigger group? – proposed Amit.
– If you really want that – I shrugged my shoulders.
– I tell others. If they feel like it’s necessary to discuss this, then we will have a discussion, otherwise, I don’t see it as that big of an issue. We already had weird dreams, so a hunch isn’t something extraordinary. I myself worry about what’s out there, just waiting to attack us – said Hatta.
– Fair enough – said Amit.
I could only hope this won’t become another conflict. I knew mentioning this wasn’t the greatest idea, but I also wanted them to be warry of the wastelands. I needed to make sure this will just die down, at least until I’m ready to meet with Xuvi.
– Ok, guys. I’m gonna go now. I deserve a nap.
– Sure. Sleep well – said Hatta as a goodbye.
Amit on the other hand remained silent. I left them, still a bit worried. I kept wondering if I maybe should talk with Aisha, to just be sure she won’t overreact. But then I realized that Amit was the one overreacting a bit. I gave him a reason, but my explanation was good enough. He, for some reason, didn’t want to let the whole issue go.
I ended up returning to my room and thinking about this whole mess some more. Eventually, I got tired, and fell asleep, to wake up around midday. I wasted some more time, ate few warm meals in the cafeteria, had a beer in the pub, and finally returned to my room by night.
The day came to an end with 50 943 705 points remaining on my account, and seventy-two class points.
