915 T.D.o.N.B: S27B, part V - Unhappy victory
It started to rain. Rain swords everywhere. It was Will, who flew through the sky in full glory. His white wings, halo above his head, and the shining claymore in his hand. Ki’rai noticed him, ignoring the broken terrain, pushing forward to face seven guardians. It was just a glance because she had her last victim to finish off. That’s what she did next.
Two large explosions shook the area when a fire mage decided to blow Will out of the sky, but both times a blade barrier popped out of nowhere, in a burst of light, completely enveloping his one side, and not allowing the impact to reach him.
Will raised his blade, and from the sky fell five pillars of fire, burning the area around the mage. He tried to dodge, with a strong barrier on, but eventually, the light pierced through. Then a large alien with a massive dark shield stepped in to save his companion.
My friend’s response was to summon more swords, but as if one of the enemies was waiting just for this opportunity, suddenly a powerful lightning strike fell from the sky, hitting one of the weapons, and instantly spreading to others, creating this massive spired web of electricity to hit Will. He just respawned them, avoiding getting any damage.
Some laser beams went his way, but he also blocked those with a barrier of blades before summoning a massive claymore that fell on the spellcaster who used the electric magic. It looked awfully like he was taken down with just this one blow.
He didn’t stop there, he went further, raising his sword into the sky once again, and spawning a dozen rings made out of fuzed swords, with blades sticking out. All of them were spinning, ready to saw through any obstacle. He sent them straight at the guardians below.
The blades flew with this humming, high-pitched noise, relentlessly attacking the aliens, who had to get really active to block them. There were in total four warriors. Two had shields, and one had a large blade. They focused on defenses, wilt the fire mage, and the remaining two gunslingers tried to take Will down.
Each shot couldn’t do anything. He would either dodge away or block it with the barrier of blades.
Suddenly Ki’rai appeared in between the spellcasters, and at a high speed attacked, cutting the two down before they could possibly react.
She was immediately swarmed by the warriors, but Will Attacked with the saw-blades from the side, pushing them violently away from her, and creating an opportunity for the little lizard to vanish from their eyes. That’s what she literally did, suddenly appearing behind one of them, to jam her blades into the back of his skull. The remaining two couldn’t withstand the blades, joined by a burst of swords flying at them from a different side.
They got badly wounded. Enough for Ki’rai to finish them off.
Further away, closer to me, Druoag got blocked by a barrage of spells from over twenty mages. They showered him with fireballs that exploded, shaking the area, and melting the ground with unbelievable heat.
They wouldn’t just stop, flooding him with rather simple fire attacks, while a few stopped, to prepare something much stronger.
The magic didn’t stop him. He emerged from the bright orange cloud, pushing forward despite the constant explosions directed to keep him at bay, each time surrounding him with flames. Then a spiral of swirling fire erupted from the ground, reaching for the sky. It remained me there for a second, clearly designed to stay longer, but when a dark shape leaped out of it, there was no longer a point to sustain it.
The alien landed among the mages, grabbed one to smack the others with his body, then threw him on the ground while punching the other. The blast was so strong, that despite the protective barrier, the poor guardian ended up embedded in the soil, just to get repetitive strikes, demolishing him completely, just like the area around.
Those hits were so loud and so strong, that the trashed landscape around got partially fixed.
The others got pushed away, by the sheer force behind those attacks. For Druoag, though, that was not the end. Not even close. Easily he caught up to a few, who decided to use the opportunity to escape. Since they were already in midair, it was a great opportunity to fly. They got grabbed, and thrown mercilessly to the ground, just to get stomped by his feet.
The carnage continued for two more seconds, leaving all of the aliens dead.
Meanwhile, in a different part of the area. Martin was finishing smashing to the ground a heavily armored warrior. Two others were already dead, behind his current position. Hailwic was finishing the fourth.
Even a little further to the side, Nil emerged from the flames like he didn’t care for them at all. The ground around him was partially melted, and you could see the shadows in the bright orange fire. The corpses of those who died fighting him and Hatta.
Nobuo joined them, with a swift swing wiping the blood off his blade with a swift swing. It splattered on the ground before he hid the katana.
– If the next place is twice as bad as this, we might have a problem – he pointed out.
– Yeah – Sanders agreed.
Meanwhile, I did manage to push my hands through the tree and reach the fruit. Its energy started to enter my body, transforming me. I was reaching new potential. Far greater than anything before. I knew it from the start.
It seemed that the stronger, bigger tree produced a better, more potent fruit. It took some time for the whole process to end, and I was able to step away a moment later when my friends already had joined me.
One glance at their faces told me everything I needed to know. Maybe even more, but there was actually nothing I could do. No discussion, anything I could possibly say, wouldn’t change the things we just had to do.
