889 T.D.o.N.B: End of the trip
With my vault stuffed with crystals, I decided to shadow walk back to my house. The first thought I had was to get my golems fixed, but then I realized that maybe it would be a good idea to speak with Will.
I got out, transformed into a crow, then flew around the city in search of him. The city was surprisingly deserted, and I noticed many hunters in full gear on the streets spread across the whole agglomeration. I was like if they were ready to fight whoever was to come.
I was quite sure that it was my fault.
Will was in his house, sitting in his kitchen by the table, with the light turned on, and a cup of coffee resting on the tabletop in front of him. He held it with both hands and just glared at it.
I kinda broke into his house, if you could call shadow walking through the wall breaking in, then walking around looking for him. That’s how I found him.
I was very quiet about that because of my ‘Hide presence’ skill. Even after noticing where he was, I approached, leaning on the part of the wall where the doorframe was supposed to be, but since he didn’t have a door there, there was no doorframe too.
I watched him for a moment before he decided to raise his head. He noticed me immediately.
– You fucking idiot. Moron. Fucking hell! Thank god you are alive… – he shook his head, but also started laughing midway.
– I’m glad to see you too – I said, smirking a bit.
– The whole city is on high alert. The ground started shaking, and we heard explosions from a distance. Nobody knew what was going on. They panicked. We evacuated all the civilians – he listed.
– Yeah… I saw the streets filled with the hunters – I told him. – Sorry about that, but it had to be done…
– Like hell, it had to be done. You just wanted to do it. Will you fucking stop doing whatever you want, just because you want? – he growled at me.
– Say whatever you want – I shrugged my shoulders. – But the truth is we need more power to fight the war that is coming. Where was the most crystals at? In Aaraam’soturi.
– Was… So you have them now? – he asked, taking a sip of his, probably already cold, coffee.
– Most. There is probably still plenty left around. I got bored of looking around – I shrugged my shoulders again.
– I can’t believe you actually did it… Even Ixa failed – he snorted again.
– Well… I had an easier job because she killed some of them for me already. There are probably a lot of crystals left by her too around that place. I was also better suited to do it than she was, not to mention I could replenish my power in Loistavadvaar. She couldn’t – I pointed out.
– I thought you were going to say that you are stronger – he smiled at me.
– Maybe I am. It’s hard to tell. I’m definitely on pair with her, but that is not enough. You should go there and pick some too – I told him. – I already have enough for myself, and it would be better if some random people wouldn’t go there to get those instead of you, for example.
He slowly nodded.
– I’ll definitely go there – he said then sighed. – I was dead worried about you, you asshole. You should have said something to me! Instead, I get a random call because people spotted you walking in the wastelands. I thought you were just checking things out, which was, by the way, very stupid too, but then you unleashed this hell…
– Stop ranting. It ended well. Not as good as it could, but…
– Not as good as it could? What do you mean by that? – he asked.
– The tree in Aaraam’soturi is blocked. I can’t access it. Maybe The Great One will have an answer to that. I’m gonna talk with him later about that. I was actually hoping to lift whatever Xuvi did to that device, but it’s impossible – I sighed.
– You wanted access to the other cities, didn’t you? – Will suddenly smiled.
– Yeah – I nodded. – It would help us a lot. We would suddenly have all those places to hunt. It would be more than we could possibly wish for.
– Yeah, it would – Will agreed. – About that… Maybe it’s time for another visit to get some more seeds?
– Maybe. I’ll think about it. For now, though, I need rest. I’m actually tired after that battle – I confessed.
– Then go. You’ve earned it. I’m gonna tell the people that it was a false alarm. Some secret mission to do whatever… I don’t know. Whatever bullshit will work – he shrugged his shoulder.
– Good luck with coming up with something – I told him with a smile on my face, then shadow walked back to my house.
I took a nap. Well deserved nap. Reinvigorated, I sorted the crystals I accumulated in my vault. I split them into a few groups. One was obviously for me, and the five others were for my wife, kids, and John. Maybe he didn’t deserve them as the others did, but I knew he carried about my daughter, and I wanted her to be safe, so it sounded like a decent investment.
Obviously, I knew they would not accept this if I were to just give it to them, so for now it all would stay in my vault anyway.
My pile was the biggest one, and I knew exactly how I was going to spend it. It included the work on the golems, as they were an immense help in the fight with the trio inside the tower. It made me feel like I should reward them for that. Another good investment.
Then I jumped to Loistavadvaar to buy some supplies before visiting my family in another world, to check how they were doing without me. It was actually just a poor excuse since I really wanted to see them after what I did in the wastelands.
