659 Days UNKNOWN:The New Hunter Is Born, part II
I looked away for a little too long, and almost got baked alive, but I evacuated just in time by shadow walking again. It made me realize, that it was time to put the pedal to the metal. I activated my other usual repertoire of skills, making the thick dark smoke cover the vicinity while raging walls of void essence blocked the horizon.
I produced a swarm of firebirds, and sent them after the swordsman ghost, while I focused on the flying one. I pulled my pudao from the vault, then began moving around. The idea was to strike while the other one was busy, avoiding the explosions, but I also needed to have a window to get closer to the ‘mister fire mage’, up in the sky.
A chain of consecutive explosions shook the platform as I was fishing for a window to jump up, and I saw a brief one quite soon after. That was all I needed. I powerful leap forward, strong enough to shatter the concrete under my feet, and destroy the machinery behind it, pushed me all the way where I needed to get. Then I swung wide, for the first time using ‘Void strike’.
I have to admit. The ghost reaction was quite clever. He managed to squeeze in a powerful barrier and an explosion, that sent me flying while blocking the blade, but unfortunately for him, it was unable to stop the burst of void essence, that followed the strike. It went through the barrier like a knife goes through warm butter, then also went through the ghost, cutting him in half, before he disappeared in thick black smoke, which mixed quite well with all the essence present already in the area.
As I saw that, I stopped my flight to inevitably crush into some architectural pieces on the platform, and shadow walked myself to grab the falling crystal. I used some ‘Telekinesis’ to make it easier, then rushed straight to the burning area, where the ghost-swordsman was emerging from the flames.
I have to admit, it looked quite cool, especially because his clothing didn’t catch fire.
He disappeared with some fancy footwork and appeared just above me, swinging wide. I blocked the attack with the pudao, but it was so powerful, that it pushed me through the concrete I was standing on, deeper into the platform mechanisms under the outer shell.
I shadow walked out of the hole, and then we clashed, exchanging a few hits. Bright orange sparks, struck by our weapons, looked quite cool on the smoky black background of all the essence in the vicinity, but there were better views, especially the one of the big portion of the platform completely melted, still glowing very hot.
I quickly noticed, that my skills were better, and in a few steps managed to push his massive sword to the side, while stepping forward. Then I used my left hand and placed it almost on the ghost’s mask. The plan was to use ‘Void burst’ and destroy him, but then I realized that it was going to send his crystal flying very far away.
– Fuck! – I cursed when the thought struck me, and that was opening big enough, for that asshole to reposition.
He used the opportunity to flood me with another wave of scorching flames, that melted the next portion of the platform, but I already knew that trick, and I already had a good answer to that move.
I blocked it with a barrier, then rushed forward. He seemed to wait for that like I was going to repeat the move from before, so he would be able to strike me with his massive sword. I wasn’t that simple in my battle shenanigans. I shadow walked past him, as he swing his weapon, smashing it into the melting ground, and then used ‘Telekinesis’ to briefly prevent him from dodging, or blocking, and then hit him using ‘Void strike’.
I grabbed the crystal he turned into, and got the hell out of there because all the fire magic put to use, in that area, made it unbearable to even stand there for a second.
As I landed in a new, relatively not destroyed spot. I noticed Druoag further away, blasting one of the ghosts in the face, then chasing after his flying body, punching him further, as they crashed through the buildings on their way, and pierced through them as if they were made out of paper.
He clearly was on the offense.
Another glance made me sure that he already dealt with the other one, so I moved closer to the action, to have a better look. Then I saw him grabbing the ghost, slamming him to the ground, and rising his massive fist, just to bring them down in a shattering hit. It was loud, and the force wave decimated a few nearby buildings – the smaller ones.
That was all the platform could take. It began rapidly descending, as it fell apart.
From the hole, my alien friend picked out a crystal, then with a single leap joined me.
– We should evacuate – he said.
– Do you have both crystals? – I asked.
He shook his head, and without saying anything more, rushed towards my side, charging and destroying every obstacle on his way. I followed him, and we ended up close to a similar hole that the one he just made, bringing the platform down.
He picked another stone from there and showed them both to me, like a trophy.
– Let’s get the hell out of here – I said, shadow walked straight to him, and took us back to Loistavadvaar.
As we landed safely I also proposed:
– Let’s replenish our strength, and split to different places. You are more than capable of hunting on your own. Just be careful to not get into too much trouble. The Great One surely will point you in the best direction if you ask him. There is no sense of us stacking on top of each other, and slowing one another down.
He agreed with a nod.
