"How do I use this?" Luke took the card and examined it. The material it was made from was unusual, cool to the touch in a pleasant, soothing way.
Unfortunately, there were no usage instructions on the card itself, so Luke had no idea how to actually enter Crescent Moon Land.
"It’s the Crescent Moon Token. Only its holder can enter and leave Crescent Moon Land," Lilith explained patiently. "Your information has already been registered into the token, so even if it’s lost, or stolen by someone else, there’s no way for anyone else to use it."
"As for how to use it, that’s simple. Just channel your spiritual power into it to activate it, and a teleport gate will open, allowing you to enter and leave Crescent Moon Land."
"Bear in mind, though, the Crescent Moon Token is a single-use item. Once successfully activated, it loses its effect. Re-entering Crescent Moon Land on the same token is impossible."
In a few plain sentences, Lilith laid out the token’s usage and effects. As for why Lilith herself possessed a Crescent Moon Token, that was clearly not a question Luke needed to ask.
"I understand." With Lilith’s guidance, Luke slowly extended his spiritual power across the token, and quickly sensed that there was indeed a spatial coordinate within it, waiting to be activated. As long as he didn’t make contact with the coordinate, however, the token wouldn’t activate, an anti-misfire safeguard.
So the Crescent Moon Token was, in effect, a portable teleportation device, though one only he could use, since his information had been registered into it.
"Truly the experience and insight of an Undying Realm Card Master. It really does feel like a door to a new world has opened." Lilith had already settled in to stay, and honestly, having a fully ripened beauty like her living under his roof left Luke a touch distracted.
But the moment he made contact with the experience card Lilith had given him, he was quickly drawn in, unable to pull himself out. He might possess the system and the memories of a past life, but on the path of card-crafting, Luke knew he was still very much a novice. Compared to a top-tier powerhouse with an unknowably vast lifespan, the gap in experience was glaringly obvious.
This was precisely why Luke had agreed to become Lilith’s student. With a teacher of that caliber, he stood to avoid an enormous number of wrong turns.
Lilith had clearly accounted for Luke’s particular circumstances as well. Being an Original Card crafter herself, the experience card she’d given him broke a Card Master’s development down into distinct stages and directions, which immediately caught Luke’s interest.
"It’s night already?" He’d felt as though he’d only read for a short while, and hadn’t expected this much time to have passed.
"Master, you’re awake?" Mana and Blanc’s voices surfaced in his mind at the same time.
"Mm. Where are you two? And where’s Master?" Luke stood and silently addressed the two girls in his mind.
"Master, your teacher just finished dinner. She told us not to worry about you, and said you’d wake up soon." Mana responded obediently. "Would you like dinner now, Master?"
"Not yet." Luke considered for a few seconds, then replied, "I still have something to take care of."
Having answered the two girls, Luke produced the Crescent Moon Token. He intended to use the time he had now to claim the Crescent Moon Blessing.
After all, only the things already in hand brought any peace of mind.
His spiritual power covered the token once more, and the instant it touched the spatial coordinate engraved within, the entire card activated completely, transforming into a teleport gate that slowly bloomed open before him.
Through the gate, threads of cool air drifted in from the world beyond, sharpening his senses.
With a single step, Luke’s figure vanished from the room. When he reappeared, he had arrived in the world on the other side of the gate.
At the same moment Luke departed for Crescent Moon Land, on the other side of a single wall, a faint light flickered in Lilith’s peach-blossom eyes. She then picked up the bathrobe resting nearby and made her way toward the bathroom.
"So this is Crescent Moon Land?" Luke’s eyes swept across his surroundings, and he found the environment before him deeply tranquil. As far as his gaze could reach, an enormous lake came into view, and at the lake’s center sat something that immediately commanded his attention.
A towering tree.
"Even Red-Eyes Black Star Dragon, or Timaeus, would probably be like children standing before this tree." Gazing at the colossal tree at the lake’s center, Luke felt as though he were sheltering directly beneath its canopy, despite the considerable distance still separating them.
A crescent moon hung high above the towering tree, its pale moonlight draped like a shawl over the lake and the great tree at its center, wrapping both in a silver veil. The scene was something out of a painting.
"In my past life, this would absolutely have been a top-tier resort destination," Luke remarked.
Even across that great distance, he could feel the life force brimming and overflowing from the tree, an abnormality that made it clear to him: the verdant giant was no ordinary thing.
Though it was his first time entering Crescent Moon Land, the instant Luke laid eyes on the towering tree rising from the lake’s center, he had a premonition. That tree was the source of the Crescent Moon Blessing.
The lake before him was vast, and crossing it wouldn’t be an easy matter, but that, naturally, was nothing to Luke.
"Looks like it’s time to consider crafting water-combat cards," Luke thought, gazing across the enormous lake. "I may well have to face environments like this in the future."
Water-combat cards existed in both the Digital World and Yu-Gi-Oh worldviews.
In the Digital World, there was the famously loyal MetalSeadramon and its kin; Gomamon’s Mega forms, Vikemon and Plesiomon; one of the Four Holy Beasts, Ebonwumon; and the goddess presiding over the network sea, the Ancient Mermaimon.
In Yu-Gi-Oh, there were the Deep Sea archetype, the Marincess, the White Aura line, and a whole series of Water-attribute decks.
With two Original Worldviews to draw on, Luke wasn’t remotely worried about finding a suitable water-combat card. But where the choice of a water-combat card was concerned, he had a particular idea.
The surface of the open water was never as stable as solid ground. So when Luke selected a card, beyond requiring it to possess baseline combat capability, he also needed it to have the ability to protect its Card Master.
Digimon and duel spirits weren’t incapable of that. The Digital World’s GigaSeadramon, for instance, exceeded MetalSeadramon in length, and was effectively an amphibious assault warship in its own right. But at his current level of ability, Luke couldn’t yet craft a card of that tier.
In his mind, though, there was a unit even better suited to the requirement.
Shipgirls.
