Chapter 579 - 481: Case Closed
Chapter 579: Chapter 481: Case Closed
Liu Baoquan backed out and bumped right into Cui Jiang, who was following behind him.
"Liu Ting, what’s wrong?" Cui Jiang asked.
Liu Baoquan waved his hand and smiled. "The young lovebirds are having a moment."
Cui Jiang paused, then understood immediately. After a moment of thought, he said, "They do make a good-looking couple."
Around the same age, the woman beautiful and the man handsome.
Liu Baoquan nodded in agreement and had the group wait outside.
’He couldn’t be a spoilsport, after all.’
Besides, he figured that the best comfort for Ding Yuwei right now was the care of her beloved.
The group sat down in the hallway to wait.
Since they’d stumbled upon it, they couldn’t help but gossip a little.
Lu Chunze even asked about it, saying he hadn’t noticed the two were dating before.
Cui Jiang said, "Is there even a need to ask? Hardship reveals true feelings. When I was on the phone with the kid and mentioned Fan Liping, I could hear the murderous intent in his voice."
A smile touched the corners of Liu Baoquan’s eyes, but he couldn’t help sighing with emotion.
He remarked that with both of them being police officers on the front lines, he wondered if they would be able to balance their work and personal lives in the future.
He had been a cop his whole life and had seen many police couples. It wasn’t that none of them worked out, but most of their lives were a chaotic mess.
Cui Jiang waved his hand dismissively and countered, "Liu Ting, every generation has its own way of thinking. Take my daughter, for instance. She’s a doctor."
"I asked her what kind of person she wanted to find, and she told me she wants to find another doctor."
"I found that strange. I said, ’If you’re both doctors, won’t you be so busy you’re never home?’"
"You know what she said? She said they’ll deal with the future when it comes. Right now, dating someone from another profession means they wouldn’t know each other’s work, wouldn’t have common topics to discuss. It’s better to find someone in the same field so they can grow and work hard together."
"If it doesn’t work out, they’ll deal with it then. We old folks think marriage is for a lifetime, but the young people don’t necessarily see it that way."
Lu Chunze, who was beside them, chimed in, "That’s right. My son and daughter-in-law are both incredibly busy; they barely see each other."
"Neither of them ever cooks; they just eat on their own. When I ask him if he’s happy, he says he’s thrilled, that it’s awesome. So, the way young people think is really different from ours."
Liu Baoquan nodded slightly, unable to hold back a sigh. "It’s great to be young."
"Look at Shen Xin. He’s only 24 this year, right? When I was 24, I was still just an apprentice trailing after my master."
"But him? He’s already solved so many major cases. Take this time, for example. The Ministry praised this kid plenty. Old Cui, your Ningjiang has really produced a talent."
He looked at Cui Jiang with a beaming smile.
Cui Jiang smiled back, but his mind instantly went on alert.
’From the sound of it, what’s this? Is he trying to poach my guy?’
Ningjiang couldn’t agree to that. The provincial department had been paying close attention to matters here.
’We can’t collaborate on a case only to lose our best man. That would be a huge loss.’
Inside the room.
Ding Yuwei struggled lightly and gestured with her eyes toward the door. In a soft voice, she said, "Are you really going to make them wait? You were never like this in front of our superiors before."
The men outside weren’t intentionally lowering their voices, so they could be heard.
"What was I like?" Shen Xin retorted, then added with a swagger, "They’re just superiors. Let them wait."
’We just made it official. We’re in the honeymoon phase. Even the Jade Emperor himself would have to wait.’
"Oh, stop it." Ding Yuwei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as she pushed Shen Xin away, gesturing for him to hurry up and open the door.
A man of Liu Baoquan’s rank was a busy person. They couldn’t just keep him waiting.
Only then did Shen Xin get ready to open the door.
But when he got to the door, he hesitated for a moment, then turned back, picked up a thermos, and only then opened the door naturally.
"Liu Ting, President Lu, President Cui, when did you all get here? I didn’t even notice."
Hearing Shen Xin’s exaggerated exclamation, Ding Yuwei inwardly shook her head. She quickly sat up straight and greeted Liu Baoquan as he entered.
After a round of standard well-wishes, Shen Xin escorted Liu Baoquan and the others downstairs.
"Shen Xin, take good care of Xiaoding. Let her rest well, and don’t let her feel any psychological burden."
Before getting into the car, Liu Baoquan added a final instruction, patting Shen Xin on the arm and saying with a smile, "Although this mission had some twists and turns, you all did a great job. You’re all fine officers."
Shen Xin quickly replied with humility, saying it was all due to the leaders’ excellent command.
Especially in Ding Yuwei’s rescue, it certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the strong support of their superiors.
Liu Baoquan nodded, got into his car, and left.
Cui Jiang was the last to leave. He pulled Shen Xin aside and gave him a few more words of advice.
He told Shen Xin not to worry about so many things and to focus on taking care of Ding Yuwei here.
After Liu Baoquan’s visit, people from Dehong, and even Simao, came one after another to offer their well-wishes.
Of course, the people from Nanjiang did as well.
By evening, Yang Zeran and the others started a video call.
’Zhang Hancheng must have told them.’
As soon as the call connected, Zhao Tianxing immediately started complaining to Shen Xin, asking him what he was doing, failing to protect Ding Yuwei properly.
Shen Xin retorted, "That’s not right. As I recall, when I first asked you guys to come along, it was to protect me."
Yang Zeran chimed in from the side, pushing Zhao Tianxing away. "I heard you two found true love through adversity."
The change in topic was abrupt.
Ding Yuwei’s face instantly turned red.
Shen Xin immediately shot back, "Yang Zeran, why are you so gossipy? Mind your own business when it comes to us."
Yang Zeran was unfazed. "What’s wrong with asking? I’m just concerned about my colleague."
"Cut the crap." Shen Xin glared at him irritably, telling him to get to the point or hang up.
The two of them had nothing important to say; they were just teasing them.
Their words made Ding Yuwei blush furiously. Only at the very end did they get to the real business, asking when Shen Xin and she were planning to return.
On that topic, Zhao Tianxing started complaining that Yang Zeran was inhuman, treating him like a slave.
Yang Zeran immediately shot back that he was also dog-tired, asking who had it any easier.
How could Shen Xin not understand what they were implying?
"Well, you two will just have to tough it out a little longer. I’ve discussed it with Yuwei, and we’ll head back after we’ve finished training the police dogs and all that over here."
Shen Xin stuck to his plan to stay behind and train the police dogs and police birds.
As for Ding Yuwei, now that their relationship was official, Shen Xin’s intention was for her to stay with him.
Zhao Tianxing let out a strange cry and was about to protest when Shen Xin decisively ended the video call.
But after a moment’s thought, he sent a message in the group chat, telling Yang Zeran to ask Zhang Hancheng for more manpower.
Then, they should focus primarily on tackling smaller cases.
The cold cases involving homicides were too difficult and also depended on luck.
Ding Yuwei was discharged after spending two days in the hospital.
Her hand still needed to heal; she just had to change the dressing regularly.
Within those two days, the details of the case were also sorted out.
Angdu had been captured and was already transferred to domestic custody.
As mentioned before, this was a nationwide operation.
Shen Xin hadn’t asked, but he heard from Jiang Wengang that the nationwide operation was very successful and many people were arrested.
Without a doubt, this would become the most significant drug case of the year.
As for Fan Liping.
His body remained in Mianguang.
Many of his subordinates were also captured.
The authorities in Mianguang had to give the public an explanation for the things he had done.
Coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse, Shen Xin attended a celebration ceremony held by the provincial department.
The specific commendations hadn’t been announced yet, but he’d heard Tang Youkun ramble on about how Shen Xin would receive a Second-Class Individual Merit at the very least this time.
And there would also be a collective commendation for the team.
After all, a crucial part of capturing Angdu was discovering and arresting Min Juekan in the primeval forest.
And achieving that was inseparable from Shen Xin’s work.
Shen Xin was already very satisfied with this result.
As for a First-Class Merit, the requirements were high, to begin with.
Secondly, if he got a First-Class Merit, what about the others who had ventured deep into the primeval forest and fought for their lives against the drug traffickers?
In contrast, Shen Xin was more concerned about the task of training police dogs.
According to Yang Zeran, if he succeeded in this, he could book himself a First-Class Hero Model commendation.
That would be the most brilliant achievement.
After the celebration, Shen Xin planned to move to the police dog base in Spring City.
Before leaving, he made a special trip to Shu Kang to see Celestial Skill.
He planned to bring Celestial Skill with him.
But there was no rush. The Shu Kang base was short on police dogs, and their work couldn’t stop.
Once he trained the new police dogs, he could come back for a replacement.
Celestial Skill was the same as always, annoyed to the point of utter despair by the five little ones.
Station Chief Dong Jiamu walked the two of them to the door. His gaze fell on Ding Yuwei’s gauze-wrapped hand, and he sighed and apologized again.
"This is from Old Pan as well. He feels terribly guilty. When he called me, he said he was too ashamed to face you." Dong Jiamu already knew what had happened.
This Fan Xiaochuan was once his colleague.
As for Fan Liping ultimately walking down this crooked path, he could only sigh with emotion.
Pan Wenhai had stayed behind in Mianguang and hadn’t returned yet, waiting to collect Fan Liping’s body.
The mention of this still left a bitter taste in Shen Xin’s mouth.
Ding Yuwei, however, tugged on Shen Xin’s arm and said, "Station Chief Dong, please try to console Captain Pan. Tell him to look on the bright side. We don’t blame him."
After seeing Celestial Skill, they had originally planned to leave for Spring City the next day, but then he received an unexpected phone call.
It was from He Jinglin, who mentioned something to Shen Xin.
They were planning to release Nan Ji and asked if Shen Xin wanted to come and watch.
He absolutely had to go.
If it weren’t for Nan Ji, they wouldn’t have been able to find Ding Yuwei so quickly.
