Ancient Woman Transmigrates to the Body of a Modern Man
Chapter 79: Meeting the Lin family 2
Lin Dong had clung to Bai Yufei because of her appearance, and later been seduced by Bai Rouxi because of the latter’s appearance too.
Fortunately, unlike Lin Dong, who could not keep his pants on, the rest of the Lin family were very rational people.
Lin Feng, this kid, used to be someone they found very pleasing to the eye, but after the Lin family almost went bankrupt, that good impression went up in flames.
Seeing the boy again, they felt that he seemed much more fragile than before. And the white clothes—was it because he was still mourning his mother’s death, unable to recover from his grief yet?
With their thoughts running, Lin Wei was the first to step forward and greet the Bai patriarch with a nod. "It’s been a while, Uncle Bai."
"Indeed, it has." Grandpa Bai returned the nod.
The exchange was polite, but the atmosphere between them remained somewhat stiff.
Grandpa Bai’s anger had somewhat faded, having already accepted that the remaining members of the Lin family were innocent. Even so, knowing the truth and facing them in person were two different things. The past had left a bitter taste in his mouth, and seeing them still brought back unpleasant memories. But for his grandson’s sake, he was willing to put those feelings aside.
Although Lin Dong had been driven out of the house, Lin Feng should, by all rights, have ceased to be a member of the Lin family as well. However, since he had already severed ties with his father before that, he could still, if only barely, be considered part of the Lin family.
Bai Tingyu exchanged greetings with the Lin family, and Lin Feng followed suit, lowering his head to greet his elders respectfully. In his experience, if one wanted to apologize, one had to be serious, sincere, and humble.
Humans were indeed visual animals.
The three members of the Lin family had initially agreed to this reconciliation out of necessity. Their willingness to cooperate was merely a show of courtesy, prompted solely by the promised investment.
They had come prepared to maintain a polite facade, accept what benefits they could, and avoid making matters unnecessarily unpleasant.
Yet, now that they were standing face-to-face with Lin Feng, their nephew, they found their hard shells softening despite themselves.
Because the boy really made people feel pity for him, as if, with just a little rebuke, he would turn pale and stagger, unable to bear it.
Lin Feng had thought that it would be a meeting full of hidden thorns, double meanings, and schemes, but unexpectedly... it was very smooth. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂
As the juniors, Lin Feng and Lin Chengye naturally were not allowed to speak at the table, so the ones talking were Grandpa Bai and Lin Wei, with Rong Shuang and Bai Tingyu occasionally speaking up.
Lin Wei observed the boy’s weak appearance from the corner of his eye and finally sighed. "I will not say any more about the unpleasant past. There are things that we all prefer not to mention, but I am aware that, in this matter, the Lin family indeed did not do well."
Grandpa Bai shook his head, his expression difficult to read.
"We all bear some responsibility. Like you, I have no intention of dwelling on the past. I only hope my daughter can rest peacefully without further disturbance."
Rong Shuang inwardly sighed, remembering her deceased sister-in-law, who had been very striking and had always made her want to look twice.
Bai Yufei had been such a lovely woman. What a waste that she had ended up with a man like Lin Dong.
Still, with the elders finally willing to put the past behind them, she wasn’t about to reopen old wounds. She kept her thoughts to herself.
Lin Wei lifted his teacup and took a slow sip.
He did not know if the Bai patriarch was mentioning it on purpose, but if he was, then the old man was quite successful, because they felt a little guilty remembering that they used to blame Lin Feng, whose mother had died unjustly, for all the troubles he had caused.
The food arrived, and the conversation took a softer turn as both parties began to relax and loosen up.
Some things, however, could not be avoided forever.
When Grandpa Bai finally brought up Lin Feng’s wish to invest in the Lin family as a way of making amends, Lin Wei pretentiously declined once, out of politeness.
"As an elder, how can I take my nephew’s inheritance money? It is also still Sister Yufei’s dowry."
Grandpa Bai waved a hand.
"This is my grandson’s way of showing filial respect to his elders and making amends to the Lin family. Let him do as he wishes. Besides, I trust you won’t let Yufei down."
After only one pretentious attempt to refuse, Lin Wei’s face became solemn, and he no longer declined.
They really needed the investment.
"I won’t hide anything from you, Uncle Bai. The Lin family is in urgent need of funding right now. I’ll accept this as a helping hand in our time of need."
"As long as you are at the helm of the Lin family, I believe that it will only be a matter of time before the Lin family rises to prominence again."
Lin Wei paused, momentarily caught off guard by the straightforward praise.
He looked at the old man across from him. There was no trace of mockery or insincerity in his eyes, only a frankness that Lin Wei hadn’t expected.
Even someone as shrewd as him couldn’t help feeling a little warmth at those words.
Before coming here, Lin Wei had assumed the Bai family was merely putting on a show. He had prepared himself to play along, too, with each side maintaining a polite facade while calculating the benefits of reconciliation.
But now, Lin Wei began to realize that Grandpa Bai had genuinely come here to settle things.
The realization left Lin Wei feeling slightly ashamed of his earlier assumptions.
He set down his teacup and spoke with greater sincerity.
"Then I’ll accept your kindness, Uncle Bai. I’ll make sure Xiao Feng receives the best possible shareholding terms. And thank you, Xiao Feng, for your filial piety and consideration. Your uncle won’t let you down over this investment."
Lin Feng was finally addressed, which meant that the two elders in front of him had finally extended their hands back to him.
Now, Lin Feng only needed to apologize.
To him, it was not a difficult thing to do. Lin Feng always held a great respect and filial piety to his elders, and apologizing to them was nothing humiliating.
What was more important was to rebuild the burn bridges of filial piety.
