Am I the Villain or Not?

Chapter 507 - 510: It Doesn't Matter, I'll Make My Move

  • Next Chapter

Near the rebuilt city walls of the royal capital, a huge cattle pen had been built with wooden fences standing all around it.

The cattle pen was already packed with countless sturdy bulls, with only a small area still left empty.

"Moo~"

A deep lowing sounded not far from the cattle pen, coming from a group of stubborn bulls.

Several knights tightly gripped the ropes attached to the bulls' noses and worked hard to drive them into the cattle pen.

"Is this the last batch?"

"More or less."

After pushing the last few cattle into the pen, they wiped the sweat from their foreheads.

The knights panted, supporting their waists, narrowing their eyes, and proudly looking at the herd gathered inside the cattle pen.

Did they think that because such a huge disaster had happened throughout the royal capital, they had only evacuated the residents?

Of course not.

As the busiest organization in the entire empire, the Knights had to handle almost every aspect of things.

Maintaining public order was only the most ordinary of their duties. When necessary, they also had to go to dangerous locations to carry out firefighting work and put out forest fires.

Sometimes, they even had to rescue kittens stuck in trees at residents' homes.

Therefore, the livestock in the royal capital, such as pigs, sheep, cattle, and horses, also had to be driven by the Knights from house to house into nearby shelters and pens.

After all, the Royal Knights of the capital were famous for their comprehensive abilities.

The knights were not only devout in their faith and concerned with the people, but also possessed all kinds of abilities.

After all, the requirements for joining the Royal Knights were strict.

Here, you could lack a life, but you could not lack a skill.

Driving cattle and sheep around was an easy task for them.

At this moment, after driving the stubborn bulls into the cattle pen, one of the knights raised his head and looked toward the pitch-black sky.

White, crystalline snowflakes slowly drifted down, piling onto their silver armor.

A knight reached out his hand, watching the snowflake in his palm, and said calmly, "It's snowing."

"Looks like it's going to be heavy. Hurry and drive these cattle into Temporary Shelter No. 47. We should leave."

"Yes, Captain!"

The knights quickly got to work, using all their strength to drive the sturdy cattle forward.

Under the knights' tireless efforts, the cattle in the pen were soon moved into the temporary shelter.

When one of the knights closed the gate of the large shelter, they mounted their horses and waved the reins, gradually disappearing into the distance amid the crisp sound of hoofbeats.

Early tomorrow morning, these cattle, sheep, and other livestock would be taken over by another department.

They would count the number of cattle each farming household had lost and make sure they were safely returned.

The knights gradually disappeared into the distance amid shouts of "Giddy up!"

The cattle shed once again fell into silence. Only the howling of the wind and snow rose across the land.

Before long, one of the sturdy cattle inside the shed furtively looked around.

It uneasily shook its head, observing its companions quietly eating grass or immersed in sleep, and let out a low grunt.

Then it cautiously poked its head out and surveyed the land covered by wind and snow, making sure there was no one around.

After confirming that it was safe, this seemingly ordinary cow suddenly pushed off with both hind legs and miraculously stood upright like a human.

At that moment, all the other cattle in the shed turned their eyes toward the cow that had stood up.

The cattle that had been eating grass stopped chewing. They all stared blankly at the upright cow.

Their clear cow eyes were filled with confusion.

It was as if they were all saying, We're all cattle, so why are you the only one who can be this outstanding?

Amid the shocked gazes of its companions, the standing cow lightly stepped over the wooden fence and nimbly jumped out.

It stepped onto the snow-covered land and sprinted toward a distant, empty stretch.

The cow's two front hooves swung rapidly at its sides, its body drawing a long afterimage across the snow.

It deliberately charged away from where the residents were, crossed the thick snow, and rushed into the dark forest.

Finally, after tree shadows flashed past, the cow gradually stopped.

Looking at the intermittent hoofprints, it had no idea how far it had run. It cautiously began checking its surroundings.

Seeing that there was no one around, the cow finally relaxed.

It sat heavily on the ground, its broad nostrils breathing heavily in the cold air.

The warm breath it exhaled formed white mist in the air.

It had escaped.

It had escaped from that royal capital packed with monsters.

Jealousy could not understand why a human royal capital would have so many terrifying monsters.

Those terrifying scenes of battle remained vivid in its mind, deeply engraved in its heart.

Auweser had never told it about any of this.

But fortunately, it had successfully escaped.

Although the price was losing a host it had cooperated with for more than a decade, it did not matter.

To a demon with a long lifespan, a mere decade or so was only the blink of an eye.

As long as it continued to exist, it would have a chance sooner or later.

Reforge the glory of demons, our generation cannot shirk its duty.

As the cow thought about this, a rustling sound suddenly came from around the forest.

The Jealousy Demon moved its cow ears. The moment it heard the entire sound, its cow eyes widened.

Suddenly, an idea flashed through its head. It cleverly returned to standing on all four legs and let out a long, continuous sound.

"Moo~"

An ordinary toad suddenly jumped out of the weeds, breaking the silence of the forest.

The cow stared at the toad and blinked.

The toad also stared at the cow and blinked.

As the two faced each other, a clear yet strange sound suddenly broke through the silence of the forest.

The toad raised its two webbed hind legs, covered its belly with its front webbed feet, opened its mouth wide, and let out a hoarse laugh, "Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"

"Buddy, you look as hilarious as a cow that got lost in winter and was buried in the snow."

Its voice carried the echo of a demon along with the deep croak of a toad.

Facing the toad before it, the Jealousy Demon suddenly felt a surge of anger.

Its nostrils puffed rapidly, and both its eyes widened, filled with blood vessels.

"Greed, you traitor!", it shouted angrily.

"Traitor? Don't make me laugh, buddy."

"When have we demons ever cared about keeping our word?"

The toad swung its webbed feet while sticking out its long tongue. It lowered its body and repeatedly turned its tiny stomach outward, as if it were vomiting.

"Ugh, your self-important attitude makes me sick."

"I never said the two of us were on the same side."

The Jealousy Demon trembled with anger, the heavy breaths from its nose growing stronger and stronger.

"You can't beat me, Greed."

"Want to have a go at me?"

Hearing this, the toad withdrew its tongue and placed its slimy, membrane-covered claws beneath its chin, gently rubbing them as though considering something.

"What you said does seem to make sense."

Its two claws lightly came together like it was clapping.

The next second, the small patch of grass beside them began to rustle.

The Jealousy Demon suddenly smelled a pungent, spicy odor and immediately widened its eyes.

Because a bright-red gelatinous crocodile burst out of the grass on its right.

Almost at the same time, a sound came from the left.

A small white dog crawled out of the grass.

Three different demons simultaneously looked at the Jealousy Demon before them. At this moment, the Jealousy Demon was covered in sweat.

But all it could do was glare angrily at the toad before it and curse.

"You despicable, stinking toad!"

"What? What? I can't beat him, so you're not going to let me call for help?"

It threw its head back and laughed again, its laughter completely unrestrained.

"If you can't beat me, you can run away too, can't you?"

This time, the cow really felt an urge to run.

Even without a host, it could try fighting one of the demons one-on-one.

But the current situation was three against one.

It could not win.

Seeing that the three demons before it had no intention of attacking, it slowly backed away several steps.

Finally, it turned around and used its powerful hind legs to sprint away, throwing a final threat at the three demons behind it.

"Just wait!"

"I'll wipe you all out!"

The cow shouted as it ran, but suddenly it seemed to collide with something.

With a "bang," it landed on its backside and became dizzy.

It held its head with one hoof, shaking as it gradually regained consciousness.

Confusion filled the cow's eyes. It slowly raised its head and looked toward the shadow ahead.

In front of it was a long blade standing in the snow. It had just collided with this blade.

The cow stared blankly ahead with both eyes, watching as someone slowly pulled the long blade out.

The humanoid figure made it feel somewhat confused and uneasy.

The cow narrowed its eyes, trying to see more clearly.

A woman slowly emerged from the shadows. Her completely pale skin was covered with fine, smooth scales.

The snake-like pupils that suddenly revealed a ghostly green glow from within the shadows contracted tightly, staring fixedly at the Jealousy Demon before them.

Finally, Saphiroth held the long blade horizontally behind her, and a voice devoid of emotion entered the upright cow's ears.

"[Target, Jealousy Demon]"

Ding!

A crimson light flashed from Saphiroth's narrowed pupils, drawing out a hazy trail of light.

"Capture successful."

———

The cold wind howled, and the stars were hidden from the sky.

The higher the place, the more fiercely the cold wind raged.

At this moment, a woman wearing a pure-white fox-fur coat stood quietly at the edge of a lofty cliff.

Her amber-yellow eyes gazed far into the distance at the remote Supreme Heavenly Gate.

A crimson mechanical gate floated in the air. Every inch of its metal frame slowly twisted, giving off a lofty and mysterious aura.

It was the only divine creation left behind after the gods departed.

At this moment, the sound of footsteps rubbing against the snow came from behind her.

She did not turn around. She simply began speaking to herself in an utterly calm voice.

"Just as Professor said, he even guessed where the demons were hiding."

"So, I believe he will definitely come back."

The falling snow landed on Henny's shoulders, piling up into a white trace.

Henny lowered her head slightly and looked at the snow covering her shoulder.

However, her brows were lowered, making it impossible to see her eyes clearly.

But soon, two lines of hot tears slid down her cheeks.

The warm tears stood out sharply in the cold air before finally melting into the snow.

One of her hands tightly gripped her chest, revealing the intense pain in her heart.

Pain almost filled her entire mind.

"I wonder why I feel so awful…"

Saphiroth stood far away beside the mountain, watching Henny on the cliff.

She did not approach or speak.

But in this silence, she seemed to suddenly sense something.

She quickly raised her head and looked toward the sky covered by heavy snow.

As the snowflakes danced freely, a black crow silently crossed the sky and landed on a bare branch beside the mountain.

Its deep, pitch-black single eye quietly looked downward.

Seeing the crow before her, Saphiroth's ghostly green pupils suddenly contracted.

She saw what seemed to be a satisfied emotion in the black crow's single eye.

Finally, it flapped its wings and flew back into the sky.

It turned into a tiny streak of black light, flowing upward against the wind and snow before disappearing.

Watching the crow leave, Saphiroth stood where she was as if deep in thought, not lowering her head for a long time.

Deep within those ghostly green eyes, a mysterious mechanical-style image appeared.

[Whitelist detection, Viktor Clavenna, no signs of life detected]

[Modified to, life signs unknown]

Because that was what the crow had said.

It said: 'I will definitely bring him back.'
