Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever
Chapter 656 – Why don’t you kill him yourself?
Chapter 656: Chapter 656 – Why don’t you kill him yourself?
Corvine looked at where Jaron had been sitting before, but the man was no longer there. The chair was empty, the cushion still bearing the indent of his weight.
Naturally, he approached Luna Pandora, his expression carefully neutral, his voice warm. "Mom, have you seen Dad?"
He made it sound like family, like a son inquiring after his father, so the woman would not suspect his intentions. Pandora smiled, her heart warmed at the sound of Corvine calling her mom.
They were now in-laws, bound by marriage and blood, and she was glad things had changed to expectation. Liah and Corvine had given up everything, the crowns, the titles, the power, but they didn’t walk away with nothing.
They were going to be the Alpha and Luna of the Grimroot pack, the biggest, most powerful, and richest among the werewolf communities. The irony was not lost on her.
"Oh, he received a call and stepped out." Pandora replied, her smile remaining, oblivious to the storm brewing beneath the surface.
Corvine quickly went to check, his footsteps brisk and purposeful. But just as expected, Jaron was nowhere to be seen. The corridors were empty, the shadows long.
By the time he returned, the seating arrangements had been changed and refreshments were ongoing. The atmosphere had drifted from tense ceremony to relaxed celebration.
Voren and Sera were already having separate meetings with the Alphas and Lunas at different round tables over dinner. The clink of cutlery and the murmur of conversation filled the hall.
Corvine walked around, his expression casual, and whispered to Voren, his voice low. "His wife said he stepped out to take a call, but there’s no sign of him anywhere."
Voren nodded, as if expecting the news. His expression didn’t flicker, didn’t betray the cold fury building in his chest. Corvine went to his seat beside Liah, his hand finding hers under the table.
"Excuse me." Voren said, and texted someone on his phone. His fingers moved quickly across the screen. ’Keep an eye around for Alpha Jaron. Update me on his every move.’
The response came within seconds. ’King Jaron, I saw him enter a black SUV with some strange-looking men.’
Voren’s teeth gritted together, his jaw tightening with barely controlled anger. He texted back, his words sharp and commanding. ’He’s no longer the Alpha King. That title is mine now. Keep an eye on him. I want to know his every move.’
He was afraid Jaron would use the title to create more messes, since the news of the coronation hadn’t reached the outlanders.
The response came in seconds, the sender’s surprise evident even through text. ’You are the Alpha King? You sure deserve it. Now I know the pack communities will be even safer and better protected. Alright, I have someone spying on the black SUV. I’ll keep you updated.’
Voren put his phone away the same time Jasper approached him, his expression grave. "King Voren." His voice was low, meant only for Voren’s ears.
"I’m sorry to not allow you to settle before bringing this up, but I know all my father’s deeds, and I’m prepared for whatever punishment you have for him." He paused, his jaw tight. "Just have Alpha Corvine prep my sister’s mind. Her heart is very soft, and she loves my father dearly. As for my mom, I can handle her."
Voren knew that Jasper was an honest man. But after all the entanglements of the Silver Moon Pack with the Lycans, he still had to test Jasper, to see if the man was still the same, if his loyalty was genuine.
"If I understand your words correctly," Voren began, his voice measured, "then you are aware that your father is going to die, but you just don’t care?"
Jasper let out a small smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "Nobody is above the law." His voice was steady. "Leaders are supposed to implement the law and protect the weak, but my father has always used his power to oppress the poor."
He paused, his hands clasping behind his back. "He wouldn’t have batted an eyelash to marry my sister off to a Lycan if Corvine had not killed the bastard. But Corvine would have also died if you hadn’t come."
His gaze met Voren’s, unflinching. "I know my father will not change, and his very existence is a threat to the Silver Moon Pack. He’s a cancer, and cancers must be removed."
Voren raised a brow, a flicker of surprise crossing his features. Perhaps there was more to Jasper than he knew, more depth, more steel. "Since you know all this, why don’t you kill him yourself?"
Jasper forced a smile, the expression pained. "Once an Alpha, always an Alpha. I have greater authority now, but he’s still an Alpha, and my father." He shook his head slowly. "My mother will not be able to stand hearing that I killed her husband. But if it’s from you, she will understand."
His voice dropped, almost a whisper. "She knows what he is. She’s always known. But she couldn’t act. She couldn’t be the one to end it and if you must know, it’s another reason my father wanted whoever marries Liah to have the crown." He paused and asked the question. "Will you be heartless enough to kill your father-in-law?"
The meaning was clear. Jaron would have used Liah to have control over whoever wore the crown and still ride in its’ power. That was why he hated Voren for rejecting the offer directly.
Now, Voren had the crown but wasn’t Liah’s husband, so Jaron lost control of power. Was that why he was running to the Lycans? Was it for help?
Voren sipped on wine, his gaze drifting naturally to his wife at the other table. She was calm, composed, the way she engaged with the Lunas—her posture confident, her smile warm. It was a serious turn-on for him, watching her command a room without even trying. How the hell did he get so lucky?
His attention quickly returned to the matter at hand, his voice measured. "Alpha Jasper, I feel like you are trying to get me to clean up your pack’s mess." He paused, letting the words hang. "And yes, that is my job now, because the person in question holds the authority of an Alpha. But tell me this, what exactly do you want?"
Jasper was slightly nervous, his composure cracking for just a moment. He never expected Voren to see through him so easily, to strip away the layers of justification and get to the heart of the matter.
