Chapter 649: Chapter 649 – Coronation day drama I
"It’s Co-Alpha Corvine and Co-Luna Liah’s day, but I feel they have been outshone by Alpha Voren and Luna Seraphine." One of the Lunas murmured from the corner, her voice carrying just enough to ripple through the gathering.
Roars of gasps and murmurs of approval circulated through the hall like wildfire, heads turning to admire the couple who had somehow stolen the spotlight without even trying.
The hall was extravagantly decorated, expensive chandeliers hung above them, casting pools of golden light across the sea of guests.
Silk drapes cascaded from the ceiling, and fresh flowers adorned every surface, their fragrance mingling with the perfume and cologne of the assembled elite.
Seraphine was slightly uncomfortable with the whole thing, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of her gown. She hadn’t meant to overshadow anyone. She had simply worn what Liah had given her.
Corvine and Liah looked amazing, there was no doubt about that. Corvine cut a striking figure in his black tuxedo and white shirt with a black bowtie, his posture regal and confident.
Athaliah’s Christine blue ballroom gown was exquisite, the fabric flowing like water around her, the color complementing her complexion perfectly.
It wouldn’t have been a problem if Voren and Seraphine had not dressed the way they did, their ruby ensembles demanding attention wherever they went.
The elders of the Silver Moon pack took their positions, their faces solemn and dignified. The council members followed suit, arranging themselves in a semicircle around the stage.
A little girl dressed in a similar dress as Liah brought the Luna Queen crown on a soft luxury pillow, her steps careful and measured. She offered it to Luna Queen Pandora, who took it with trembling hands and placed it on her head. Her elegance was unmatched, her bearing regal.
A boy around the same age brought the King’s crown on another pillow, also dressed as Corvine. King Jaron took it and wore it as well, his expression unreadable.
Then the ceremony began after King Jaron and Queen Pandora sat on the throne. It didn’t take long before Jaron moved to the podium and spoke into the microphone.
"This is our first time hosting an event like this." He Jaron began to address the crowd, his expression grim, his voice carrying across the hushed auditorium. "When I found this crown, I knew it would be the symbol of peace among our werewolf communities. And I must say, there has been peace for a long time."
He paused, his gaze sweeping across the gathered faces. "Today, my wife and I are giving away our titles to our two children. And I am happy to have you all here to witness this occasion. Thank you all for accepting our invitation."
Murmurs rippled through the crowd before he continued, his voice growing heavier. "As a father, you all have to understand that I cannot be biased. Besides, no one else can hold two titles. And before I give out the crowns and positions, my son Jasper Spencer, my daughter Athaliah Spencer, and..."
He paused, as if the words were too heavy, too difficult to speak. "My soon-to-be son-in-law, Corvine Stone, would all have to reject their titles."
Jasper’s beta did not have a title yet, so he was excluded from this part. Jasper stepped forward first, his chin raised, his voice steady. "I, Prince Jasper Spencer, reject my position and title as the prince of the Silver Moon pack."
A piercing headache shot through him, his vision swimming for a moment. But he stomached the pain like a man, his jaw tight, his fists clenched at his sides. He refused to show weakness.
Liah spoke up next, her voice clear despite the tremor in her hands. "I, Athaliah Spencer, princess of the Silver Moon pack, reject my position and title as princess of the Silver Moon pack."
She didn’t expect the headache and dizziness that followed. The words seemed to drain something from her, leaving her lightheaded and unsteady.
Corvine gently helped to stabilize her, his hand firm on her elbow, his actions graceful and protective. The crowd murmured their approval at his gallantry.
Then he went through the process, his voice steady and unwavering. "I, Corvine Stone, Co-Alpha of the Grimroot pack, reject my position as Co-Alpha."
He felt the headache, a sharp stab behind his eyes, but he endured it as a man. His expression never wavered.
The Alpha King inaugurated the beta next. After the usual vows, the council members brought documents for the beta to sign before announcing, their voices ringing across the hall. "Everyone, the beta of the Silver Moon pack—Beta Gordon Jakes."
Applause sounded through the auditorium, polite and measured. The same thing was done with Jasper. "Everyone, the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack—Alpha Jasper Spencer."
When it was Liah’s turn, her mother took her father’s position, guiding her through the rituals with gentle hands and whispered instructions.
Then she removed her crown and was about to place it on Liah’s head when the shaman of the Grimroot pack objected, her voice cutting through the ceremony like a blade.
"Queen Pandora, do you mind if we check the authenticity of the crown?"
Pandora was confused, her brow furrowing with concern. But Jaron’s forehead was already beaded with sweat, his composure cracking. He quickly signaled one of the council members to speak on his behalf. The middle-aged man stood up, his voice oily and smooth.
"Shaman, both crowns have always belonged to the Silver Moon pack. This is the first time an event like this is held. So how do you define its authenticity?"
The shaman looked at Oriana, and the latter stood up gracefully, her voice carrying the weight of ancient knowledge. "I can show you." She gestured toward the crown in Pandora’s hands.
"The rubies in the queen’s crown are from ancient gems, and they all respond to the rare mythical rubies." She paused, her eyes glinting with hidden meaning. "Do you want a demo?"
King Jaron gritted his teeth so hard, he could feel sand in his mouth. It seemed that whenever he planned something, somebody would stand in the way of it’s success.
