Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever
Chapter 636 - Thank you for loving my son
Chapter 636: Chapter 636 - Thank you for loving my son
Voren was slightly tensed, his muscles coiled beneath his skin. The relationship between him and his mother was different from what he ever had with Olivia.
This woman had died and returned, had walked through the veil between worlds and come back with knowledge that transcended mortal understanding. It was hard to comprehend what he was feeling—a strange blend of joy, relief, and an unsettling awareness that she saw things he couldn’t.
In the end, they walked away a little before his mother spoke. Her voice was soft, but it carried the weight of prophecy. "The black and white wolf are both powerful. If both your powers are awakened completely, I fear for what might happen." Her eyes were distant, focused on something beyond his sight.
Voren did not know whether to address her as his mother or the shaman in training, but right now, he knew the woman was speaking from the spiritual realm.
Her gaze traveled to Seraphine again, lingering on her daughter-in-law with a mixture of affection and concern. "She’s an amazing woman, and you bring her so much joy. That’s why she’s bound to you." Her voice dropped, becoming almost a whisper. "But you have to be careful. If you ever hurt her..."
Nervousness crept through Voren’s heart, a cold tendril wrapping around his chest. "Mom, I’m glad you know how much we love each other. I’ll never hurt her." He forced the words out, trying to anchor himself in the warmth of that truth.
His mother smiled, but it was a sad one, tinged with something he couldn’t quite name. "I’m only concerned about the Blood Moon festival." She reached out, her hand resting on his arm. "You must be ready to do what the moon goddess tells you, whether you like it or not."
"Can you tell me what it is?" Voren asked, his voice urgent. He needed to know, needed to prepare.
But the woman shook her head slowly, her expression unreadable. "The time is close. I have to begin my preparation." She pulled away, her hand falling to her side.
"I’m unfamiliar with this new pack but Vlad can take care of me. Go and take care of your duties." Her gaze met his, ancient and knowing. "No matter what, what has been done is done. You have gone too far with her, so destiny would only have to be rewritten." There was a short pause, heavy with meaning. "Just be ready to pay the price."
At that, she walked back to Seraphine and embraced her, her arms wrapping around her daughter-in-law with surprising warmth. "Sera, walk with me."
She pulled away and hand in hand, Seraphine walked around the pack with Oriana. The pack ground was quiet and still under the moonlight, most of the pack members asleep.
Luck was on their side. If they had been awake, it would have seemed strange, a woman who appeared younger than her daughter-in-law strolling through the grounds like a ghost.
"Your powers are growing stronger." Oriana’s voice was soft, admiring. "And the Grimroot pack is lucky to have you." She stopped suddenly, turning to face Seraphine fully. "Thank you for loving my son." Her eyes glistened. "But no matter what, you both must do what the moon goddess tells you during the Blood Moon festival."
Seraphine wanted to ask a question but the woman smiled and informed her, her voice gentle. "I’ll tell Vlad to take me to your mother. Her wolf gave me life, and you are carrying two lives." She cupped Seraphine’s face briefly. "Go and sleep."
Seraphine smiled and did not refuse. She was exhausted, the weight of the past days pressing down on her. But she remembered something and asked, her voice hopeful. "Any pregnancy tips?"
Oriana smiled, her eyes twinkling. "Don’t worry. I’ll personally take care of you."
Seraphine’s heart warmed, and she felt that though problems might knock on their door, she and Voren would forever be together. The certainty of that thought carried her back to the pack house.
The next day, everyone was allowed to rest. Sleep came in fits and starts, the exhaustion of the past days finally catching up with them. But by midday, Oriana was introduced to the leaders, her presence commanding and serene.
The pack was only informed that she was going to be the new shaman, a transition that was met with quiet acceptance. But most of them noticed that she was aging backwards, her skin growing smoother, her hair richer, her eyes brighter.
The last time they saw Olivia, whom they thought to be Oriana, she had looked worn out, aged by deception and guilt. But suddenly, she had grown so young, so vibrant. However, they dared not ask why.
Most of them had never liked Olivia, and they were just realizing that she had changed, had become someone else entirely. They began to wonder what had changed as well.
When Oriana met Bryan and Espe, she was overjoyed. She knelt to their level, her eyes shining with tears as she pulled them into her arms. The children, sensing her warmth, wrapped their small arms around her and laughed.
She was introduced to all the children at the pack and her joy knew no bounds. She was glad Vladimir did not give up on her when she wanted to cross over to the ethereal realm.
But as the days passed, things grew busy. Trainings were intense, with Voren showing no mercy to any of the warriors or leaders.
The pack gym echoed with grunts and thuds, the sound of bodies hitting the mat, of wolves pushing themselves past exhaustion. Preparations toward the Blood Moon festival were also intense, with payments already beginning to flood in from packs across the region.
There was no news about Corvine and Ravyn, and when Seraphine contacted Liah, she was informed that King Jaron had banned them from using their phones. But Corvine was doing well, Liah assured her.
The eighth day after Corvine left, an invitation was delivered by hand. The messenger was a lone wolf from the Silver Moon pack, his expression grim. Voren took the parchment, his eyes scanning the content. His blood ran cold.
’Greetings from the Silver Moon pack. The Alpha King, Jaron Spencer, and Queen Pandora Spencer, wishes to invite you and your wife to the coronation of their son, Prince Jasper, as the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, and likely Corvine Stone, as the Alpha King, and Athaliah Spencer, as the Luna Queen in the next three days.’
The use of the word "likely" made Voren realize that something wasn’t right. His instincts screamed warning, a primal dread settling in his gut. He dialed Corvine’s number immediately, but it was switched off. He dialed Liah, but it was the same. The call wouldn’t connect.
The outlanders could not get information about what was going on inside the pack, so he dialed Prince Jasper instead. The call connected after a few rings, and a familiar voice answered, heavy with remorse.
"Alpha Voren." Jasper’s voice was strained. "I believe you are calling because of Co-Alpha Corvine." He paused briefly before relaying. "I’m sorry, but my father played foul, and Co-Alpha Corvine is in a critical condition."
Voren’s gaze darkened dangerously, the temperature around him dropping several degrees. His hand tightened around the phone, the plastic creaking under his grip. "What happened?"
