Chapter 283: A Way to Revive Nagato

  • Next Chapter

Meanwhile, at the tower in Amegakure...

Ning Feng stood before a well-preserved corpse, his expression solemn.

The body belonged to Nagato.

His distinctive red hair remained, and he still wore Amegakure attire, but where his eyes had once been, there was now only a dark, empty void.

"Nagato... even in death, he couldn’t find peace."

Looking at the shattered remains of his old friend, Yahiko’s face was filled with grief.

If he had noticed earlier...

If he had been more decisive when trying to stop Madara...

Perhaps Nagato wouldn’t have died.

"What’s done is done. There’s no point dwelling on it now."

Ning Feng stepped forward and let out a quiet sigh.

"I share responsibility for this as well."

Failing to protect one of his own subordinates was ultimately a failure on his part.

He had never expected Madara to be so ruthless—using Nagato to resurrect himself before immediately taking back the Rinnegan.

Everything had happened too quickly.

By the time Ning Feng reacted, it was already too late.

All that remained was Nagato’s cold corpse.

"Lord Feng... you must have some way, right?"

Konan, who had been staring silently at Nagato’s body, tears beginning to gather in her eyes, suddenly noticed the calm expression on Ning Feng’s face and spoke in a trembling voice.

"A way?"

Ning Feng smiled bitterly.

"There is one... but now isn’t the time to use it."

His gaze drifted toward a prompt displayed by the system.

As companions who had supported each other through the rise of the Land of Rain, the bond between Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan had long surpassed ordinary friendship.

Even though Konan secretly harbored feelings for Ning Feng now, it didn’t diminish her concern for Nagato in the slightest.

The sight of Nagato’s death only filled her with anger.

"What? Lord Feng, you have a way?"

The moment he heard those words, Yahiko dropped to his knees before Ning Feng.

Tears streamed down his face.

"Lord Feng, please save Nagato!"

"Even if the price is my life, I’m willing to pay it!"

The last time he had faced Madara, he had hesitated.

Although Madara’s overwhelming strength later proved that waiting for Ning Feng had been the rational choice, Yahiko still couldn’t forgive himself.

Because of that hesitation, Nagato had died.

If time were reversed...

No matter how powerful Madara was, he would draw his blade without hesitation.

No matter how strong the enemy, he would cut through them for the sake of his closest friend.

Some things required rationality.

Others demanded that one follow the heart.

For Yahiko, his heart told him to protect those two people at any cost.

"This technique... does indeed require someone’s life."

Ignoring Yahiko kneeling before him, Ning Feng turned his head away and spoke slowly.

Before him floated the system prompt:

[Chiyo’s Secret Technique: One’s Own Life Reincarnation]

Learn?

This was the same forbidden technique Chiyo had used in the original story.

By sacrificing her own life, she had saved Gaara after Shukaku had been extracted from him.

It was universally accepted that a jinchūriki died once their tailed beast was removed.

If Ning Feng hadn’t specifically instructed Orochimaru to research methods of extracting tailed beasts without harming the host, such a technique might not have been developed for many more years.

Even Kushina Uzumaki, with the extraordinary vitality of the Uzumaki Clan, had only survived a short time after the Nine-Tails was extracted.

That alone demonstrated how devastating such an extraction was.

Death was normally inevitable.

Yet One’s Own Life Reincarnation had brought Gaara back from the brink.

In theory, it should work on someone like Nagato, who hadn’t been dead for very long.

That was why Ning Feng had begun considering the technique.

At the same time, he wanted everyone to prepare themselves mentally.

The problem was...

If he learned the technique and used it himself, he would die.

And unlike Nagato, he wouldn’t be coming back.

Therefore, Ning Feng intended to learn the technique and teach it to someone else.

Then that person would revive Nagato.

As for who...

This was an S-rank forbidden technique that transcended life and death by using the caster’s own life as the medium.

The requirements were extraordinarily high.

Ordinary jōnin didn’t even qualify.

Among Amegakure’s people, only three individuals met the necessary standards:

Ning Feng.

Uchiha Itachi.

Yahiko.

Itachi and Ning Feng were related by blood, and Itachi’s eyes held tremendous value on the battlefield.

Whether viewed from a public or personal perspective, sacrificing Itachi to revive a Nagato who no longer possessed the Rinnegan was simply unreasonable.

As for Ning Feng himself...

Even if he agreed, everyone else would stop him.

If he died, there would be no one left capable of opposing Madara.

The eight tailed beasts inside him would inevitably fall into Madara’s hands.

And once Madara became the Ten-Tails’ jinchūriki—the second Sage of Six Paths—

The entire world would face catastrophe.

That wouldn’t merely mean the deaths of one or two individuals.

It would mean the destruction of an entire world.

"So... the only option is to teach it to Yahiko?"

Looking at the man who stubbornly refused to rise, Ning Feng couldn’t help sighing.

Without the Rinnegan, Nagato’s strength was actually inferior to Yahiko’s now.

And if he really exchanged the life of someone as important to Nagato as Yahiko in order to revive him...

Then after Nagato returned, he would undoubtedly demand to know why Yahiko had been sacrificed.

In the end, nobody would be satisfied.

Yahiko suddenly slammed his head against the ground.

"No matter the cost, I’m willing to bear it!"

He didn’t use chakra to protect himself.

His forehead struck the earth with tremendous force.

The impact drove his head partially into the soil, staining the loosened dirt dark red.

Blood began flowing from a wound on his forehead.

Seeing his unwavering resolve, Ning Feng finally relented.

"Very well... I’ll teach you the technique later."

"However, the technique capable of bringing Nagato back is extraordinarily difficult."

This wasn’t an exaggeration.

Reviving Nagato required more than simply possessing the courage to sacrifice one’s life.

One had to thoroughly master an S-rank forbidden technique and earn the right to make that sacrifice.

If Yahiko failed to meet Ning Feng’s expectations...

Or if something went wrong while learning the technique...

Then he wouldn’t even get the chance to give up his life.

Bringing someone back from the dead was never something that simple.
