The municipal square bustled with merchants selling regional spices, woven shawls, and roasted sugar nuts to cheerful crowds at dusk.

Merchants passed paper-wrapped nuts and shawls across the stalls while Eirwen threaded through the evening crowd and searched for the promised meeting place.

Eirwen walked along the central promenade, having left her royal diplomatic correspondence with the chancellery clerks at the embassy.

Beside her walked Hajin, his hands casually tucked into his coat pockets as he observed the colorful stalls.

"It feels strange walking through the square without carrying three dozen diplomatic treaties," she murmured with a faint smile.

"You spent four solid days negotiating trade tariffs... you earned a night away from embassy records," he replied.

"Besides, you promised to show me whatever rare curiosity caught your eye this afternoon."

"Follow me, summoner," she said, taking his wrist and guiding him toward a colorful stall draped in silk banners.

The vendor, an elderly woman with silver spectacles, displayed an array of carved bone hairpins and ornamental brooches.

Eirwen pointed toward a silver hairpin topped with an exquisitely carved crystal blossom resting on velvet cloth.

"Look at the petal curvature," she noted with keen appreciation, leaning over the velvet display tray.

"The artisan captured the natural tilt of a northern frost lily before the morning thaw."

"It looks very delicate," he commented, tapping the silver stem with his fingertip while examining the setting.

"Though if you wear that into battle, a single stray shockwave will shatter those crystal petals into powder."

"Not everything in life exists to deflect enemy broadswords, Hajin," she scolded playfully, nudging his ribs with her elbow.

"An elf is allowed to appreciate beauty for its own sake without calculating defensive enchantments!"

"Fair point," he laughed, handing the elderly merchant three provincial coins from his local coin pouch.

"Wrap the frost lily hairpin, please... the lady made her royal decree."

The vendor wrapped the ornament in silk paper, beaming as she handed the small package to the elven ranger.

Eirwen tucked the gift safely into her sash, a faint blush warming her cheeks under the lantern glow.

"Thank you," she whispered softly, her eyes shining with genuine pleasure as they resumed their leisurely stroll.

"Now, in return for your generosity, you must sample the local street delicacy."

She led him to a crowded food cart where a vendor fried large dough fritters stuffed with spiced river snails.

"Spiced river snails?" he asked, raising an eyebrow with extreme skepticism as he eyed the bubbling kettle.

"I faced Choral archbishops, demonic hive minds, and rogue siege locomotives without blinking an eye."

"Yet a plate of fried snails is where your legendary bravery falters?" she teased, her laughter ringing like wind chimes.

"I just prefer my snacks without shells," he muttered defensively, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Eat the fritter, summoner... consider it a command from your official royal liaison!"

She bought two skewers, offering one to him before taking a decisive, crunchy bite of her own fritter.

Hajin sighed, taking a tentative bite and blinking in sudden, pleasant surprise as rich garlic seasoning burst across his tongue.

"Actually... that is shockingly good," he admitted, chewing rapidly and finishing the remainder of the skewer.

"I told you so," she smirked, wiping a flake of fried batter from the corner of her lip.

"You should trust my culinary recommendations more often... elves know good forage when they see it."

"If your idea of forage involves frying snails in garlic butter, I will gladly follow your lead," he chuckled.

They strolled toward the municipal park, stopping near the edge of a pond where floating lotus blossoms drifted lazily.

"I miss the autumn gathering in my home grove," she admitted quietly, leaning against the polished railing of the bridge.

"Around this time of year, our elders light the cedar fires and share stories until dawn breaks over the canopy."

"Tell me about the cedar festival," he encouraged, turning to lean against the rail beside her under the trees.

"The whole community gathers in the central glade," she explained, her voice carrying a bittersweet, nostalgic warmth.

"We bring jars of sweet berry preserves, roast chestnuts over the open embers, and dance until the stars fade."

"It is the one time of year when nobody carries a bow or speaks of border garrisons."

"Once this campaign at the viaduct concludes, we can host our own autumn celebration right here in the Sixth," he suggested gently.

"Will you join me at the bonfire?" she asked, turning to face him under the swaying paper lanterns.

"I would not miss it for the world," he promised with a warm, sincere smile that reached his eyes.

"We can bring Juna, Loccy, and the twins... though Loccy might eat every single roasted chestnut before we sit down!"

Eirwen laughed softly at the thought, picturing the chaotic scene around the future bonfire with genuine fondness.

"I will make sure Ferra locks the chestnut crates with sturdy brass padlocks," she joked, shaking her head.

A cloaked messenger hurried through the park gates, spotting the royal archer and jogging toward the bridge with urgency.

"Lady Eirwen," the courier whispered respectfully, presenting a sealed dispatch cylinder marked with the crest of the root tenders.

"Urgent reconnaissance report from the northern cistern approaches near the high ridge."

She took the cylinder, breaking the wax seal and scanning the short handwritten message with sharp focus.

"Our scouts located the hidden rehearsal site," she announced, looking up at Hajin with solemn resolve.

"The Choral officers are assembling three reinforced cohorts inside the mountain cistern caverns."

"How deep are they positioned beneath the waterworks?" he asked, his posture shifting smoothly back into combat readiness.

"They occupied the primary reservoir chamber beneath the aqueduct junction," she answered, handing him the dispatch.

"They intend to run a full deployment drill tomorrow night to test their command frequencies."

"Who commands the rehearsal cohorts inside the reservoir?" he asked, scanning the signatures.

"A Choral extraction broker and an armored guard captain," she answered, pointing to the seal.

"They brought a specialized retrieval team to siphon water pressure into their siege batteries."

"Then Cessy and Lucan will handle the infiltration," he stated with total certainty.

"Cessy knows the extraction methods, and Lucan knows how to turn a valve captain inside out."

"Then our evening stroll ends right on cue," he noted, tucking the report into his coat pocket with a nod.

"Let us assemble the team and prepare the strike before they finish their drills."

High above the quiet park, the celestial broadcast screen illuminated the night with ecstatic comments and blinding superchats.

[ Seoul_Tactician: "A WHOLESOME MARKET DATE! Eirwen and Hajin are so incredibly sweet together!" ]

[ StarlightScholar: "Hajin getting bullied into eating fried snails by his elven archer is peak romance comedy!" ]

[ IronVanguard: "That promise to host the autumn bonfire... my heart cannot take how precious they are!" ]

[ HearthKeeper: "The mood shifted instantly when the scout arrived, our leads are true professionals!" ]

[ ShadowMage44: "The cistern rehearsal is real. Cessy knows that service passage better than anyone!" ]

Eirwen slipped the hairpin deeper into her sash, offering Hajin a confident, radiant smile under the starlight.

"Let us go win our festival," she said, turning toward the garrison with purposeful steps along the cobblestones.

Together, they walked out into the cool night air, ready to extinguish the enemy’s final preparations.
