Chapter 398: Chapter 208: The Golden Oak Tree’s Request, The Four-Race Discussion
Under the azure sky, a chain of rolling red mountains snaked across the land. From a distance, they resembled dull pieces of red agate, which was how the Red Agate Mountain Range got its name.
The Red Agate Mountain Range was located at the continent’s edge, a desolate and barren region where, in the past, few races of Magical Creatures ever ventured.
Recently, however, a continuous stream of Magical Creature races had migrated here from all over, seeking refuge from the invasion of the Alien Insect Army.
Over a thousand Magical Creature races had now gathered in the Red Agate Mountain Range, and that number was still growing.
On the gentle summit of a mountain, the chieftains of four races gathered to discuss their next steps.
"The main force of the Alien Insect Army is about to reach the Golden Forest. I’d say in half a year at most, they’ll descend on the Red Agate Mountain Range. What does everyone think we should do?"
The speaker was a Rainbow Tree Rope Demon.
It stood about ten meters tall, its trunk appearing to be made of flesh and blood. The surface was covered in long, thin tendrils that swayed slowly, continuously flashing with an eerie, iridescent light.
"What else can we do?" the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant rumbled, spitting a few sparks from its mouth. "You think we can actually fight off the Alien Insect Army? We either find a way to leave this plane or we wait to die."
Its gaze swept over the other three chieftains as it inwardly scoffed. Its prone posture grew even more listless.
In terms of both their personal power and the collective strength of their races, the four chieftains gathered on the summit were second to none in the Red Agate Mountain Range.
’But so what?’
’A single army of Golden Light Insects from the Alien Insect Army could easily wipe out all four of our races.’
’Even if all the Magical Creature races in the Red Agate Mountain Range joined forces, they couldn’t stand against three or four armies of Golden Light Insects.’
’The plane’s destruction is already a foregone conclusion.’
’Everything we’re doing now is just a final, desperate struggle—utterly meaningless.’
The Rainbow Tree Rope Demon shot the Flame-toothed Giant Elephant an irritated glare. ’If I’d known this creature was so hopeless, I never would have brought it into the fold. Not one useful suggestion, just spouting pessimistic nonsense.’
The Rainbow Tree Rope Demon looked toward the other two chieftains and asked in a low voice, "What do you two say?"
A strange laugh came from the left. A large, unsettling tree stood there, pitch-black from top to bottom and almost entirely leafless. It exuded an aura of gloom, despair, and nightmares.
The Owlwood cackled. "The Flame-toothed Giant Elephant’s words may be harsh, but they are the truth. Fighting the Alien Insect Army is out of the question—it’s a dead end. The only way is to leave this plane."
The Rainbow Tree Rope Demon’s spirits lifted. "You have a way?"
"Of course," the Owlwood said. "I have the planar coordinates for Hell, and I have the knowledge to construct a Plane Teleportation Array."
The Rainbow Tree Rope Demon was overjoyed.
It didn’t doubt the Owlwood. After all, the creature was proficient with the Power of Death and firmly belonged to the Evil Faction; it was only natural for it to have connections with Hell Demons.
The Owlwood swayed its trunk smugly and turned to look at Tining, who had been silent the entire time.
"Chieftain Tining, what do you plan to do? Will you join us?"
Tining seemed to snap back to her senses and shook her head. "No."
With that, she rose and walked down from the summit without a moment’s hesitation.
Watching the Half Deer Maiden walk away, a flash of disdain crossed the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon’s eyes.
Unlike the Owlwood, it did not belong to the Evil Faction, but it was still considered neutral-evil. It had no fondness for the "genuinely good" factions like the Ancient Tree Deer Spirit Race, who revered nature and life. If not for the Alien Insect Army, it would have never wanted anything to do with them.
"When do we leave?" the Rainbow Tree Rope Demon eagerly asked the Owlwood.
"No rush," the Owlwood said meaningfully. "Before that, we have something else to do."
"What is it?"
The Owlwood extended a bare branch, pointing in the direction Tining had gone. Its voice turned ice-cold.
"Kill her!"
