Chapter 323: Chapter 187: Long time no see, do you still remember me?

"It’s a shame Pei Sheng went out as well. If he were here, he could have used his precognitive Magic and we might’ve gotten some information."

"Enough!"

The elder cut off the discussion, his expression grave as he spoke.

"There’s no point in continuing this discussion. Pei Kang, take a few men and investigate. Do your best to find out what happened to Zong Guang and the others. But make your own safety the priority. We can’t afford to lose anyone else right now."

"Yes, sir." A Wizard stood up, bowed, and then turned to leave the hall.

The elder looked around at the group and said in a grave voice, "From now on, no one is to go outside without permission, except to purchase supplies and gather materials."

"Our experiments have reached a critical stage. We just need to hold on for a while longer. Once we’ve completely mastered the power of the unholy creature, we’ll have the means to get our revenge on Chenxi City. Until then, I ask for your patience!"

The Wizards’ expressions all grew solemn, and they answered in unison, "Yes."

The elder’s expression relaxed slightly. He nodded and said, "Alright, everyone, return to..."

He was halfway through his sentence when the expressions of all the Wizards suddenly changed.

"The Defense Array is under attack!"

"There’s an intruder!"

"Who is it?"

The elder shot to his feet and swiped his hand, instantly creating a Light Gate in front of him. He then strode through it and vanished.

The other Wizards quickly followed.

After passing through the Light Gate, the Wizards found themselves on the street outside. They looked up at the sky.

The Defense Array was already active, its translucent golden glow forming a dome that covered all the buildings.

And outside the dome were countless, densely packed black crows, frantically attacking the Defense Array.

"Magical Creatures!"

The Wizards felt a slight sense of relief. If it was just Magical Creatures, that was manageable. Compared to pursuers from Chenxi City or a Wanderer, Magical Creatures were much easier to deal with.

"But what kind of Magical Creatures are these?"

"I can feel the Power of Death. Could they be Netherworld Crows?"

"No, the Power of Death from a Netherworld Crow isn’t this weak."

The elder interrupted their conversation in a grave voice, frowning. "This isn’t the time for idle chat. Let’s deal with these monsters first."

The Wizards agreed, their expressions relaxed. Although they could sense the crows weren’t weak and numbered at least seven or eight thousand, they weren’t worried.

After all, with nearly a hundred Wizards on their side, dealing with a mere few thousand rank-one legendary Magical Creatures should be child’s play.

Soon, led by the elder, eight Level 3 Wizards began to slaughter the crows.

The many Pei Family Wizards who arrived shortly after also joined the battle.

Under the combined assault of more than eighty Wizards, the flock of crows suffered heavy losses. In less than two minutes, nearly half of them had been killed.

Just as the members of the Pei Family thought victory was assured, the unexpected happened.

A streak of golden light shot out abruptly from somewhere within the flock, striking a Level 3 Wizard. Before he could even react, his body disintegrated into fine particles, leaving him utterly and completely dead.

After instantly obliterating one person, the golden light still had power to spare, shooting toward a second person with its momentum unchecked.

Fortunately, his companion’s sacrifice had bought him a split second. The second Wizard had already reacted, casting every Protective Magic he knew and barely managing to block the golden light.

But before he could even breathe a sigh of relief, a Thunder Spear tore through the air and pierced his chest. The blazing lightning then exploded, turning him to ash.

In the blink of an eye, two Level 3 Wizards were dead.

This sudden turn of events made all the Wizards’ faces pale with horror. The elder’s expression twisted in fury as he flung his hand toward the direction the golden light came from, unleashing a Dissociation Technique and roaring in a deep, angry voice.

"Who’s there!"

HSSS!

The dozen or so Fog Crows in the path of the gray ray of light were instantly disintegrated without a trace.

The next moment, a hand wreathed in lightning slowly reached out and easily blocked the gray ray. With a clench of its five fingers, it instantly crushed the ray out of existence.

Pei Ze, who had been hiding within the flock of crows all along, finally revealed himself. He looked at the gathered Pei Family Wizards with a faint, mocking smile.

"Everyone, long time no see. Do you remember me?"
