Chapter 269: Chapter 162: Cleansing Operation, Belated Revenge
"So you’ve learned to control your size. Not bad."
Pei Ze praised with a smile.
Before, when Wuyu fused with over a thousand Fog Crows, its form would swell to over three meters tall.
But now, after merging with over six thousand at once, its form wasn’t even two meters tall.
This was undoubtedly an improvement. Wuyu’s fighting style had always favored agility and speed, so the smaller its form, the better.
Pei Ze then cast the Third-level Monster Summoning Skill.
A Summoning Array instantly materialized on the floor. As light flickered, a creature that seemed to be a hybrid of a Goblin and a wolf appeared out of thin air.
"A Dog Demon?" Pei Ze raised an eyebrow, recognizing the creature. "Not bad luck."
The targets summoned by the Monster Summoning Technique are random; only their power level is fixed within a certain range.
With his current level of Spirit, enhanced by his Engraving Spell and metamagic techniques, he could summon an Otherworldly Creature of at least the Tier Three Legendary Level.
And the Dog Demon was among the most powerful of all Tier Three Legendary Creatures.
They were medium-sized Otherworldly Creatures from the Evil Faction. They could take the form of a wolf or a Goblin, craved slaughter, and devoured corpses to fuel their evolution.
The skin of most Dog Demons is bluish-red, gradually darkening as they grow in power.
Once its skin turns completely blue, the Dog Demon would break through to the Tier Four Legendary Level.
The Dog Demon that Pei Ze had just summoned, however, was already a color very close to blue, a clear sign it was on the verge of a breakthrough.
"Ghhh..."
The Dog Demon bared its sharp fangs, pawing restlessly at the ground. Its cruel, violent gaze swept back and forth over Wuyu. If not for the restraints of the contract, it would have lunged long ago.
Pei Ze merely smiled at the sight and released his control over the Dog Demon.
After all, he had summoned the Dog Demon for the sole purpose of testing Wuyu’s combat capabilities.
"ROAR!"
The Dog Demon instantly roared and lunged, snapping its sharp fangs viciously at Wuyu.
But at the very moment of impact, Wuyu suddenly dispersed into a swirling black mist, and the Dog Demon passed right through.
The Dog Demon landed, its attack having hit nothing but air, and it froze for a moment in confusion.
The next moment, the black mist reconverged into Wuyu’s form. With a piercing shriek of displaced air, its gleaming claws flashed like lightning across the Dog Demon’s neck.
The creature’s body stiffened for an instant, then its head was severed from its shoulders, splattering blood all over the floor.
"Not bad."
Pei Ze smiled and nodded.
’To instantly kill an Otherworldly Creature nearing the level of a Tier Four Legend without using the Power of Death, relying only on its mist form and fusion abilities... Wuyu’s strength was now easily on par with the Winter Frost Giant Beast.’
’Once it devours another batch of Netherworld Crows and fully awakens its Power of Death, Wuyu won’t even have to fear a Second-level Wizard.’
After having Wuyu revert to its bracelet form, Pei Ze left the Magic Laboratory and sent a message to Yin Xue.
He received a reply a short while later.
...
A private room in a tavern.
Pei Ze pushed the door open and entered, finding Yin Xue and Yin Guang already seated inside.
To his surprise, both were wearing cloaks over leather armor, looking as if they were about to leave the city.
"Yin Xue, what’s with the...?"
"We’re about to head out," Yin Xue said. "Pei Ze, you..."
She stopped mid-sentence, her gaze fixing on Pei Ze with a look of shock and uncertainty.
She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt that something about Pei Ze had changed.
Just by standing there, he gave her a sense of profound stillness, like the night sky. She even felt a faint sense of pressure rising from deep within her.
She had only ever felt this way when facing Wizards of a higher level than her.
’Could it be...’
An incredible thought suddenly surfaced in Yin Xue’s mind.
"Cousin?"
Yin Guang gave Yin Xue a strange look, wondering why his cousin had frozen mid-sentence and was staring so intently at Pei Ze.
But Yin Xue had no time to explain. She continued to stare at Pei Ze, her voice somewhat strained as she asked, "Pei Ze... did you break through?"
Pei Ze didn’t hide it, nodding calmly. "I just advanced today."
Hearing Pei Ze admit it himself, Yin Xue drew in a sharp breath, her expression becoming incredibly complex.
She had thought it wouldn’t be long before Pei Ze advanced to become a Second-level Wizard, but she never expected it to happen so quickly.
’How long has it been since he first became a Wizard? A year at most!’
’In such a short amount of time, most other Wizards probably wouldn’t have even broken through to the liquefaction stage.’
’Even she, with the full backing of her family and ample resources, had taken more than a year just to reach the Level 1 Crystalization Stage. She was nowhere near ready to advance.’
’Yet Pei Ze had come from behind and surpassed her, advancing to a Second-level Wizard even faster than she had!’
’His talent was simply astounding!’
By now, Yin Guang understood as well. He was frozen in place, utterly dumbfounded and at a loss for words.
’H-He’s already a Second-level Wizard?!’
’How is that even possible?’
’We were in the same cohort of wizard students! I’m still just a Wizard Apprentice, and he’s already a Second-level Wizard... The gap is just too wide!’
’It’s so wide it’s despair-inducing!’
For a moment, Yin Guang’s head was buzzing, and it took him a long while to come back to his senses.
Yin Xue was the first to process the shocking news. Taking a deep breath to compose herself, she broke into a brilliant smile.
"Congratulations, Pei Ze!"
"An eighteen-year-old Second-level Wizard... Once word of this gets back to Chenxi City, it’s bound to cause another huge stir. Your reputation as a genius is going to become even more renowned!"
In response to Yin Xue’s words—half admiration, half teasing—Pei Ze simply offered a faint smile and steered the conversation toward the purpose of his visit.
