Chapter 400
Despite the previous divorces being due to Ji Fei discovering the truth, this one had nothing to do with her at all; she was just a pure bystander catching up on the gossip.
It seemed the problem lay in the Feng Shui of the Qin family.
This time, Ji Fei obediently stayed on the sidelines, eating her fill of the drama, as she hadn’t met the two people involved and had no idea what had happened.
Qin’s Father, Qin’s Mom, and their uncles were all quite angry.
“Zhao Jianghe, I thought he was a decent man before. Before marrying Fifth Sister, he was always discreet and had no interest in women. Now look at him, he’s divorcing Fifth Sister for someone else.”
“Fifth Sister has always kept the household in immaculate order and has supported him in his business, managing all the logistics. How could he let himself be blinded by infatuation and fall for another woman?”
“Who knows! Fifth Sister didn’t explain clearly. We’ll have to interrogate them properly when they return.”
“What about the Zhao Family? What do they think?”
“The Zhao Family realizes they’re in the wrong and hopes the couple won’t divorce, but they don’t intend to force the other woman away. That’s their family style—keep the red flag at home while the colorful banners fly outside. They want Fifth Sister to remain the first lady of the Zhao Family, but the other woman will stay with Zhao Jianghe at his workplace.”
Ji Fei frowned as she listened, and Qin Xian noticed, quietly explaining to her, “The Zhao Family’s main business is in third-world countries. After marrying Zhao Jianghe, Fifth Sister moved to the most prosperous and wealthy country in that continent, living with the Zhao Family. However, Zhao Jianghe’s business requires him to stay in a dangerous country for long periods, possibly only returning home for two or three days a month to transport goods.”
I get it now. They want Fifth Sister to be the symbol of their prestigious family, but they’re also fine with their son having a caring companion outside. So they believe there’s no need for Fifth Sister to divorce. Unfortunately, the women raised in the Qin Family probably can’t play along with this noble family game, where both husband and wife have their own affairs. They can only choose to divorce. But from what I hear, Zhao Jianghe isn’t against the divorce either, even though his infidelity is despicable. If he cuts his losses, it might be the best choice for Fifth Sister. After all, once the heart changes, it’s no longer pure. Continuing the marriage would only be a waste of Fifth Sister’s life.
Originally, Qin’s Father and Qin’s Mom were fuming, but after hearing Ji Fei’s mumbling, they suddenly felt that realizing the truth early and turning away might not be such a bad thing.
Now that they had calmed down, they decided to focus on securing more benefits for Fifth Sister. After all, they couldn’t lose both the person and the money. The affair came first, after all.
With limited information, everyone was frustrated, but there was nothing more to discuss. They could only wait until the next day when they would meet Fifth Sister.
The next day, Ji Fei woke up early.
Since Qin Xian, who usually dealt with company matters, hadn’t gone to work because they were meeting relatives, he got to enjoy a rare moment of waking up with his wife in his arms. But then he felt her getting up.
“Why are you waking up so early?”
“I need to prepare early; Fifth Sister and her family are arriving.” Ji Fei said excitedly.
Qin Xian chuckled, “Don’t get too excited over the gossip, though. It’s Fifth Sister’s divorce, and she still has feelings for Zhao Jianghe. After all, they’ve been married for twenty years and were once in love.”
Ji Fei paused and then gave a simple smile.
[Pfft, there’s not much to gossip about with Fifth Sister’s drama. It’s just the classic story of a man falling for another woman, cheating, and then divorcing his wife. It’s so clichéd; there’s probably no explosive news to dig up. I’m excited because I can finally see if there’s anything off about Fifth Sister’s family, not because of the gossip.]
Qin Xian was taken aback, and his heart swelled uncontrollably. His gaze toward Ji Fei had already changed.
Just as Ji Fei was about to get up, Qin Xian pulled her back into his embrace.
Ji Fei’s cheek pressed against his solid abs, and she immediately softened, taking the opportunity to nibble playfully.
But her little jest was enough for Qin Xian to keep her in bed.
The two of them blushed and lingered in the room for quite a while, with only their gradually calming breaths remaining.
By the time they came downstairs, they were almost late—the car had already pulled into the courtyard.
Ji Fei calmly took a seat, accepting everyone’s gaze. “Relax, it still takes five minutes to get from the gate to here.”
Everyone smiled knowingly, remarking that their pair might just be the solution to the Qin Family’s recent troubles. Out of all of them, only they were in a sweet, loving relationship.
Qin Xian went to fetch breakfast for Ji Fei. While others rushed to the square to watch, Qin Xian insisted on Ji Fei finishing her breakfast first.
“Aren’t we being rude?”
“There’ll probably be a commotion.”
Qin Xian calmly poured milk for Ji Fei. Sure enough, the noise from outside grew loud.
The commotion didn’t die down until they had finished breakfast.
Ji Fei gave Qin Xian a thumbs up. “You really hit the nail on the head.”
“My dad, Third Uncle, and Fourth Uncle all protect Fifth Sister fiercely. After all, she’s their sister.”
The implication being that the initial meeting wouldn’t be a polite, friendly exchange. There would inevitably be some arguing and maybe even roughhousing before they could enter the main building.
“Let’s go,” Qin Xian said, leading Ji Fei toward the main building.
Halfway there, they ran into Qin Yi.
“You two were really taking it easy. It was terrifying just now. I’ve never seen the uncles get physical before.” Qin Yi wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“What happened?” Qin Xian asked.
Qin Yi briefly recounted the incident,
“Zhao Jianghe wasn’t hurt; someone else got hurt by mistake. It was a woman, which was awkward.” Qin Yi shook his head, “She’s been taken to a guest room to rest for a bit.”
“What?” Ji Fei said in surprise, “A woman? But that’s not right, Fifth Sister only has one son, Zhao Chengle, right? Where did this…”
At this point, Ji Fei covered her mouth, her expression suddenly puzzled as she looked at Qin Yi, “Could it be… she brought her along to the visit?”
Realizing Ji Fei had misunderstood, Qin Yi quickly explained, “No, no, the woman is an acquaintance of my aunt’s out there. They’re really close, her name is Lu Yunqing. She almost became Zhao Chengle’s godmother.”
Ji Fei’s face twisted in discomfort.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Xian chuckled.
“It’s just… hearing words like ‘god’ or ‘foster’ now, it feels off. I’m not used to it anymore.”
Everyone was reminded of the previous incident involving someone almost becoming a foster child, which indeed made such terms feel uncomfortable.
“This one should be fine, though. She’s reportedly been trying to persuade them not to divorce and has been speaking up for my aunt.”
