Chapter 224: Chapter 222: My Roommates Are All Good People

Jiang Xia was hard at work on his storyboards when Su Qing suddenly opened the door and returned. He was carrying a pile of packages filled with a complete assortment of daily necessities, and even a pair of 10-kilogram dumbbells.

"Where are the other two?" Su Qing asked.

"Probably still out wandering around. Need help unpacking?" Jiang Xia hefted the dumbbells, testing their weight. It was surprisingly difficult just to lift one; doing a few incline presses would be a real challenge.

"No, it’s fine."

Su Qing shook his head and slowly took two doormats out of the packages. He placed one at the dorm room entrance and the other in front of the bathroom. He even replaced the mop with a new one.

"What are you up to?" He craned his neck to look at Jiang Xia. "Whoa, are you drawing storyboards? Impressive. Is this... *Cat and Mouse*?"

Jiang Xia wasn’t too surprised that he’d recognized it at a glance. After all, Su Qing was a fine arts student just like him, and in the same animation major. Some things were impossible to hide from him.

’I just don’t know how good his drawing skills are. Maybe I can recruit him into my studio early on.’

"Just messing around to stay in practice," Jiang Xia said with a smile. "You watch *Cat and Mouse* too?"

"I do. It’s just a little short. Never quite long enough to be satisfying."

Su Qing climbed onto his bed to organize his bedding, asking, "Old Jiang, why’d you choose the animation major?"

"What other reason is there? I love it. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to one day make my own animated show." Jiang Xia put down his pencil and turned to look at him. "Nanny Su, what about you?"

"More or less the same," Su Qing said with a smile, not elaborating further.

By the time dinner rolled around, Jiang Xia had drawn nearly twenty storyboard panels. Su Qing took it all in; he didn’t look like someone who was just practicing.

"Aren’t the other two coming back for dinner?"

"Maybe they went to a class meeting organized by a professor."

"When’s our class meeting?"

"Tonight, I think. Didn’t you see the text notification? Around 7 p.m. at the School of Art Building."

"Uh..."

Jiang Xia’s breath caught. When he entered a state of focus, he automatically blocked out nearly all external distractions. He took out his phone and saw that there was indeed a new text message. It was from his advisor, and the content was exactly what Su Qing had said.

"Then let’s not wait for them. Let’s go eat, and then head to the School of Art Building after."

"Mm, okay."

"Aren’t you going to ask your girlfriend?"

Jiang Xia thought for a moment. ’Lin Yanwan’s roommates are all here. A group of girls together probably needs time to get to know each other. If I force my way in, I’ll just get in the way of them bonding.’

"Never mind."

He shook his head and took out his phone to send a text to his wife.

"Babe, I have a class meeting tonight, so I can’t have dinner with you. I’ll lend you to them for today, and I’ll snatch you back tomorrow."

Girls’ Dorm, Room 520A.

The four girls had just finished giving their dorm room a thorough cleaning. Lin Yanwan felt her phone vibrate. She took it out and read the text. ’That guy’s messages are so childish.’

She rapidly tapped out a reply: "We have a class meeting soon too, at the School of Economics and Management Building."

"Dinner together then? I’m waiting for you at the cafeteria. I’ve already got your food. Same spot as this afternoon," Jiang Xia quickly replied.

"Okay."

After sending the text, Lin Yanwan looked at her newfound friends and asked hesitantly, "Shall we go eat together?"

"Let’s go, let’s go! I’m starving."

Cui Jiaying suddenly leaned in and asked, "Yanwan, aren’t you going to eat with your boyfriend?"

Lin Yanwan blushed and said resignedly, "He... he’s already saved seats for us at the cafeteria."

"Ooh, then maybe we shouldn’t go with you?"

"Why not? It’s the perfect chance to check out Yanwan’s boyfriend. We only got a quick glance earlier, so we still don’t know what his character is like," Si Si said, blinking and mischievously stirring the pot.

"That’s true! Let’s go, let’s go, we’re off to see Yanwan’s boyfriend."

Tang Qiuting remained silent the whole time. ’In her opinion, Jiang Xia seemed like a nice person.’

The group of very attractive girls walked side-by-side toward the cafeteria, drawing the eyes of many boys along the way.

Seeing his wife, Jiang Xia waved. Lin Yanwan walked straight toward him, while her friends looked on with curiosity.

’He’s actually pretty handsome.’

"Yanwan, your boyfriend already got your food for you. You go ahead and eat; we’ll go get ours," Si Si said, giving her a gentle push forward.

"You guys are coming back, right?" Lin Yanwan said, glancing back at them.

"We know~"

Jiang Xia looked away from them and handed the chopsticks to his wife. He smiled. "Seems like you’re getting along well. Are you all in the same class?"

"Mhm." Lin Yanwan nodded lightly. "They all seem really nice."

"That’s good, but don’t let your guard down completely."

’They say the backstabbing among college girls is intense. All those palace intrigue dramas pale in comparison to a girls’ dorm. Scheming bitches, green tea bitches... they have plenty of ways to make your life miserable.’

As if sensing his worry, Lin Yanwan squeezed his hand and gave him a reassuring look.

’She was someone who had been reborn, after all. She’d already been through college once. Handling a few freshmen girls? That would be a piece of cake.’

"You’re the one who needs to be careful," Lin Yanwan reminded him. "The dynamics in your dorm can be way more complicated. It’s easy for conflicts to break out."

"It’s fine. I have Nanny Su. Nanny Su is omnipotent. Nanny Su solves everything. Whether it’s for dorm leader or class president, I’m a staunch supporter of Nanny Su," Jiang Xia said with a chuckle, throwing an arm around Su Qing’s shoulders.

’Of all the people he’d met so far, Su Qing was the only one who seemed like a great guy in every respect. He was happy to befriend Su Qing and even wanted to recruit him for his studio.’

Beside him, Su Qing looked resigned. ’Does this guy really think I’m his mother? Still, being trusted so much by a friend he just met... it actually feels pretty good.’

"Mm, don’t you worry. I’ll take care of him," he said with a nod.

Lin Yanwan frowned, her expression turning strange. ’Why does that sound like I’m about to lose my boyfriend to another man?’

’Two handsome guys being this close... it’s hard not to imagine them... dropping the soap for each other in the shower.’

’Hopefully, I’m just overthinking things.’

The group chatted and laughed. A few minutes later, the three girls who had gone to get food returned with their trays. Tang Qiuting sat down beside her. Lin Yanwan glanced over and saw she had only ordered a bowl of plain noodles, which probably cost no more than two yuan.

’This girl is a little too frugal.’

"Qiuting, my portion of Di San Xian is way too big. I can’t finish it. Help me out with some of it, would you?"

Lin Yanwan was slightly taken aback. The one who had spoken was actually Si Si.

"And my shredded pork with peppers, too! Qiuting, I’m on a diet. I can’t eat this much at night," Cui Jiaying said, picking up her chopsticks and already adding some to her bowl.

Seeing this, Lin Yanwan couldn’t help but smile. ’In this life, all the roommates I’ve met are good people.’
