After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 213 - 211: Wang Ming’s Spring
Chapter 213: Chapter 211: Wang Ming’s Spring
After they were both stuffed from a bowl of *luzhu* stew and the famous "rolling donkey" rice cakes, the two were pretty much full.
Even though Lin Yanwan said she wouldn’t eat, Jiang Xia still brought back some "rolling donkey" rice cakes for her and Chen Yao. By the time he got back, however, Lin Yanwan had already finished her shower.
He suddenly had a pang of regret. ’I should’ve just shamelessly barged in. Even if we couldn’t have taken a bath together, I could have at least caught a glimpse of that tempting silhouette on the frosted glass.’
"Have a taste. It’s a famous snack from the Imperial Capital, and it’s really good," Jiang Xia said, looking at her. Her hair was wrapped in a towel; she must have just gotten out of the shower and hadn’t had a chance to blow-dry it yet.
"I’m not eating it. When have you ever seen me eat anything at night?"
Lin Yanwan rolled her eyes. She was very strict about her weight. To her, eating even a single bite at night was an insult to her figure.
"Alright then, I’ll eat it later if I get hungry. You haven’t dried your hair, have you? Here, let me do it for you. I’ve got time right now." As he spoke, Jiang Xia pushed open her door and walked in naturally before Lin Yanwan could even react.
The bathroom’s exhaust fan was running, but the air was still thick with the scent of shower gel—the exact same one she used.
Lin Yanwan: "???"
She’d let her guard down for just a moment, and he’d already taken advantage of the opening.
’Drying my hair is probably just an excuse. What he really wants is to get into my bed.’
’All day long, is there anything in that head of his besides boobs?!’
"What are you trying to pull now? I’ve told you, if you want to get into my bed, it’s not happening—at least not for now," Lin Yanwan asked warily.
Besides, there were two other pairs of eyes watching them. If Jiang Xia spent the night in her room, even if they did nothing, it would be a direct announcement to the others that they’d already slept together.
Jiang Xia looked sheepish. "I really am just going to dry your hair."
"I don’t believe you. You’re up to something."
"..."
Jiang Xia was rendered speechless. ’Even if I am up to something, it’s useless. My girl is Zhong Kui, a professional ghost-catcher.’
’If she doesn’t agree, it’s not like I can force her.’
"Okay, fine. My thoughts are impure. But they’re just thoughts. As the saying goes, judge a man by his actions, not his intentions. You’re my girl; can’t I even think about your fair, soft body? At an age where a guy is bursting with energy, you can’t seriously expect me to think about that scantily clad woman on the card someone just slipped under the door, can you?"
"You dare!"
Lin Yanwan glared at him and held out her hand. "Give it to me."
"What?"
"That card you just mentioned."
"I picked it up and threw it right in the trash. If you want it, I’ll have to go dig it out for you." Jiang Xia shrugged. Even if he couldn’t control himself, he wouldn’t resort to those kinds of women to satisfy his physical needs.
’My own two hands are a much better alternative.’
"Jiang Xia, if you ever dare to go with one of those sordid women, you can forget about ever touching me again for the rest of your life," Lin Yanwan said, looking him straight in the eye.
She had always worried that men change for the worse once they get rich. If he were to go find other women to vent his frustrations just because she wouldn’t sleep with him, it would mean she had completely misjudged his character.
So many successful men had been ruined simply because they couldn’t keep it in their pants.
At the end of the day, it was a matter of principle.
"Don’t worry, baby. You’re the only one who gets my dopamine going. I have absolutely no interest in anyone else." Jiang Xia winked, his expression one of pure righteousness. "It’s like... you’re always the leading lady in my dreams."
Lin Yanwan’s face flushed. ’That shameless pervert. Talking about fantasizing about me so righteously.’
"I think the hair dryer is in the bathroom cabinet," she said.
Jiang Xia smiled. He got the hint and went to get the hair dryer.
She took off the towel wrapped around her head. Jiang Xia stood behind her and gently lifted strands of her dark hair as the warm air from the dryer began to hum.
A few minutes later, Lin Yanwan’s hair was about eighty percent dry. Jiang Xia put down the hair dryer and gently wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Baby, even if I get rich, I won’t get a big head, and I won’t mess around. You can count on that."
"Mm."
"I owed you in my last life, and I’ll spend this one making it up to you, and then some."
"Don’t talk like that," she said. "I don’t need your charity."
"It’s not charity. It’s because I’ve already given you my entire heart."
Lin Yanwan turned around, cupped his face in her hands, and rose onto her tiptoes to gently kiss his lips.
"I’ve received it."
Jiang Xia pulled her into a tight hug, passionately savoring her sweet taste. A long time passed before they slowly pulled apart.
"I’m going back to my room to shower now. You should get some rest."
"Mm, okay."
The door closed softly. Lin Yanwan smiled to herself, then suddenly noticed a small card that had been slipped under the door at some point.
She picked it up. Printed on it was a very seductive-looking woman, with a mysterious phone number in the bottom right corner.
"Such a shameless woman."
She muttered a curse, then tore it to shreds and threw it in the trash.
◇
After Wang Ming finished his shower, he saw that Jiang Xia still hadn’t come back. He figured the guy was spending the night with his girlfriend, and a wave of envy and bitterness washed over him.
He’d lived this long without ever holding a girl’s soft hand, and here Jiang Xia was, about to lose his virginity. ’Waaah...’
Just as he was about to get into bed, there was a sudden knock on the door.
"Old Wang, open up."
He froze for a second. Opening the door, he saw Jiang Xia looking as pleased as punch and blurted out, "I know they say a guy’s first time can be over in a flash, but weren’t you a little *too* fast?"
Jiang Xia’s expression turned strange. "Can’t you have a single clean thought?" he said irritably. "I was just talking with my girl for a while."
Wang Ming scratched his head awkwardly. "Ahem, well, I just assumed you weren’t coming back tonight."
"Am I that kind of guy? As a man of integrity, of course I’m saving the most wonderful thing for our wedding night," Jiang Xia said, his face a mask of righteousness.
Old Wang just shot him a disdainful look. ’What a phony,’ he thought. ’When they were getting the rooms earlier, he was shamelessly trying to get them to share a bed, only to be flatly rejected by his girlfriend.’
’Not to mention, I saw the condoms in his bag. Would a "man of integrity" carry those around with him?’
"I almost believed you," he said, rolling his eyes.
Jiang Xia chuckled, grabbed some clean clothes from his suitcase, and went into the bathroom to wash up. About twenty minutes later, he emerged, wreathed in steam.
In this weather, a guy’s hair didn’t need blow-drying. All you had to do was towel off the excess water, and it would be dry in no time.
He glanced over at Wang Ming, who was lying on the bed with his legs propped up, furiously tapping away at his phone. Jiang Xia wondered who he was messaging.
"Shen Ying?"
Wang Ming’s face flushed. "Just letting her know we arrived and are about to go to sleep."
Jiang Xia stood by the window, his gaze pulling away from the bustling nightscape of the Imperial Capital. He smiled and said, "You know, I actually think Shen Ying has feelings for you."
Wang Ming: "?"
"During the graduation dinner, you were sitting with Chen Yao, right? Her eyes kept drifting over to you."
"And also, when that guy confessed to her, you were just sitting there drinking like an idiot. She was looking at you then, too."
"Take today, for instance. She went out of her way to see us off at Yu Du Airport. Honestly, Yanwan and I were just an excuse. The real reason she came was to see you."
Wang Ming’s breathing slowed. The hope he thought was dead suddenly flickered back to life.
