After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 175 - 173: Climbing into Wife’s Bed
Chapter 175: Chapter 173: Climbing into Wife’s Bed
"I love you too."
After hanging up, Jiang Xia had what could only be described as a doting smile on his face.
He was certain that rebirth hadn’t just affected his body, but his heart as well.
That was why, even though they were like an old married couple, a single term of endearment could still make his heart skip a beat.
He took a sip of water to calm himself before picking up his pen and continuing to focus on drawing the storyboards.
Thinking about the problem that had troubled his father-in-law so much in his past life, now so easily solved by him, he felt more and more that the saying "nothing is difficult in this world" was true. There was no problem in this world that money couldn’t solve. If there was, it just meant you didn’t have enough "superpower of cash."
Since the heavens had chosen to let him be reborn, he was determined to climb to the very peak of this world in this lifetime and see if the view from the top was really as beautiful as they said.
Filled with lofty ambitions, Jiang Xia got a rush of inspiration and ended up grinding away until 2 a.m. again.
That night, he slept hugging his blanket, pretending his wife was in his arms. In his mind, however, he was thinking, ’When I go to my wife’s house tomorrow, can I let myself go just a little bit?’
And so, he had a very steamy dream.
◇
The next morning, Jiang Xia slowly opened his eyes. He didn’t see the soles of feet pointing at the ceiling; all that met his gaze was the empty ceiling itself, and his heart suddenly felt just as empty.
"When will these days ever end?" he sighed helplessly.
’It’s not the world’s fault, it’s my wife’s!’
He went into the bathroom for a refreshing shower, then skipped breakfast entirely. He left a note for his mom and, with a surging heart, ran over to his wife’s house to freeload a meal.
’If I’m lucky, I might even get to go into her room and wake her up.’
’And if my mother-in-law and father-in-law aren’t there either, that’d be even better.’
The taxi took him straight to the entrance of the residential complex. Just as he got out, he ran right into his father-in-law, who was dressed in a suit and leather shoes, waiting for a car by the side of the road. He respectfully called out, "Dad."
Lin Gaoyuan was used to it by now. The more he saw of this kid, the more he liked him; he might as well raise him as a son.
"You’re here so early? Have you had breakfast yet?"
Jiang Xia smiled sheepishly. "Not yet. My mom had to go to the school for something, so I shamelessly came over."
"Go on, go on. Yanwan’s mom is making noodles right now," Lin Gaoyuan said with a smile. He liked that about the kid—he didn’t hide things and was always straightforward.
"Are you heading to the company now, Dad?"
"Mhm, I have to talk to the people from Cat and Mouse tomorrow. I think it’s best to have them come for a site inspection to see the factory’s condition. If you don’t show sincerity in business, it’s hard for others to trust you," Lin Gaoyuan said.
"That’s true," Jiang Xia said with a smile. "Good luck, Dad."
Lin Gaoyuan chuckled and nodded. "Alright, you should hurry upstairs. I’m off to the factory."
"Okay."
After saying goodbye to his father-in-law, Jiang Xia bounded lightly up the stairs, only to find the front door wasn’t fully closed, as if a crack had been intentionally left for him.
He pushed the door open and walked in, just in time to see Ji Wanqiu pouring tea. A pair of slippers was placed on the doormat, facing inward, obviously prepared for him.
"Xiao Xia, you’re here?" his mother-in-law said with a warm laugh.
"Morning, Mom." He changed into the slippers and went inside.
"Just now, Yanwan’s dad called and told me, but I didn’t believe him. I was thinking, how could you be up so early? Both of the girls are still asleep." His mother-in-law handed him the tea. She had light makeup on, looking like she was about to head out as well.
"I went to bed a little early last night. A dog in the complex started barking right around dawn, and once I woke up, I couldn’t get back to sleep," Jiang Xia said, scratching his head.
"It’s like that sometimes. Some dogs are so annoying. A while ago, the barking kept me up all night, every night. It’s only gotten better recently." Ji Wanqiu clearly sympathized when it came to barking dogs.
"You haven’t eaten breakfast yet, have you? Would you like noodles or fried eggs?"
"Mom, I’m not really that hungry right now. You don’t have to worry about me." He blinked. "If you have something to do, you can go ahead and get busy. When Yanwan and Xiao Man get up later, I’ll make breakfast for them."
"Er..."
Ji Wanqiu glanced at the wall clock. It was just past seven. Usually, her two daughters didn’t get up until around eight. Normally, she would make them breakfast before rushing off to work.
But today, she had to go clean the factory, striving to leave a good impression on the producers from Cat and Mouse.
Her schedule was indeed a bit tight.
"Xiao Xia, in that case, I won’t be polite. I’ll have to trouble you to look after Yanwan and Xiao Man. I really am a bit busy today," Ji Wanqiu said, pressing her lips together.
"It’s no trouble, no trouble at all. This is nothing. I’m going to be cooking for Yanwan for the rest of our lives anyway. As for Xiao Man, I’m her brother-in-law. It’s what I should do," Jiang Xia said with a smile.
His mother-in-law couldn’t help but break into a smile. This son-in-law of hers was truly impeccable—kind, considerate, handsome, gentle, a smooth talker, and talented. He’d already surpassed 99% of all men.
"You, ah, don’t spoil her too much. You’ll turn her into a useless person."
Jiang Xia just chuckled slyly. ’Turning her into a useless person would be great,’ he thought. ’That way, she’ll never be able to leave me.’
"Well, I’m off to work then. There are dumplings, sweet rice balls, and noodles in the fridge. Make sure you eat some breakfast later, you hear?"
"Okay, bye, Mom."
Ji Wanqiu left, her face beaming. She was very reassured when it came to Jiang Xia and didn’t think he would try anything improper while alone with her two daughters.
If he really had those kinds of intentions, he probably would have devoured Yanwan completely long ago. Why would he have waited until now?
On the contrary, with both adults out at work and the two daughters left at home, Jiang Xia was playing the role of someone who could step up in a critical moment.
Sometimes, she even felt that this kid had practically no flaws. Finding such a good son-in-law was truly her good fortune.
At some point, Yuyuan came over to Jiang Xia’s feet and gently rubbed his adorable little cat head against his ankle. He crouched down and stroked Yuyuan’s chin. The little cat closed its eyes in comfort, letting out a soft purr.
He then realized that in the time he hadn’t paid much attention, Yuyuan had grown almost a full size larger. Its temperament had also become more docile, growing more and more like the big, lazy cat from his memories.
After petting the cat for a while, he scooped Yuyuan’s litter box, changed its water and food, and then gently pushed open his wife’s bedroom door and snuck inside.
He closed the door. The blackout curtains in the bedroom were very effective, making the room quite dark. The air conditioner was set to 26 degrees Celsius, the perfect temperature for sleeping under the AC blanket.
Jiang Xia quietly leaned over the edge of the bed, gazing at his wife’s delicate features. Her long eyelashes, her elegant nose, her soft little mouth... He couldn’t help but be reminded of his dream from last night.
He leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss.
"Honey, time to get up~" he whispered in her ear, but there was no response.
So, an idea struck Jiang Xia. Brazenly, he climbed onto the bed, slipped under the covers, and snuggled up close to her.
