After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World
Chapter 2174: Importance of History
Gadia stared at Althea for a while and stayed silent, though her expression had obviously softened up a bit. It was in stark contrast with her tense expression before, as if she were ready for a fight.
"At least in Warrior City, there are no biases in learning and if women wanted to learn a trade or to fight, few people would look down on them for doing so."
Althea looked at her. "What career do you want to pursue?"
Gadia had wanted to be a guard. To Warrior City people, the guards were the most admirable people. They were the strongest and they were always the vanguards.
She was supposed to take the test, but she was married before she could do so. While women had more options in Warrior City, after marriage, they were still expected to watch their families.
Like the woman said, she was judged with different standards. If others were using one, why can’t it be the same?
Should she just do it?
...
The next stop for their ragtag team was the Hall of Fame where the greatest warriors of the territory were displayed. Rather, they were wooden sculptures of them, created by Woodworkers acknowledged by the System.
Whenever one looked at them, one would passively feel admiration for the figures they represented.
"We remember our heroes and are inspired by them," Virion said, serving as a very dutiful tour guide.
"My personal favourite was my great granduncle. He was a very handsome and skilled man who could take down a hundred beasts with a wave of his weapon~"
"This one is another hero, unrelated to us by blood, but still very admirable. He bit the neck of a level 40 monster and ripped its from its body with his bare hands. You can see many paintings depicting this battle."
He then moved to another work showing off a bloody war, with a few half orcs and orcs standing mixed with humans. "This was against humans who bid war on us back when we were a new City," he said. "Naturally, they were brutally defeated."
The museums in this world were, unsurprisingly, rather plain and straightforward. It was literally just a hallway with displays.
In the future, Alterra would also have such a hall, but naturally with different designs. It would have photos of the development of the village to a town and in the future, to a City.
Terrans were modern people. They documented everything. She could choose one Terran with a phone and could guarantee that it would have at least one material good enough for printing and display.
After all, even mundane moments they had now would be history in the future.
History was such an important part of civilization—it was the foundation between their feet. People may build upon it, but they must never forget what was underneath.
If they didn’t remember where they began, the future geenration wouldn’t understand what it had become.
"Now, for your last day here, let’s go have dinner in the palace! We prepared a great meal!"
"Nothing inebriating this time," Garan said. They really had to go the next day.
Virion paused, turning his head to look at Garan. "Don’t be boring!"
"Don’t be an idiot."
"..."
While on their way to the palace, Althea and Garan paused midway, looking in a direction when they felt they were being watched. However, they saw nothing, they put it aside and continued on.
After all, walking alongside Virion was bound to gather a few stares.
...
Hidden in the street that the couple was just looking at, revealed a pretty woman with a bulging stomach.
Her eyes were deep with various emotions, mostly of envy and bitterness.
This was none other than Vanessa. She was wearing very simple clothes and her skin and hair were not as smooth as it was.
However, compared to most pregnant women, she still looked decent. As a water user, she had naturally moist skin, making it appear healthier than others.
It was just that compared to Althea...
She wanted to call them! Tell them to help her out, call her father and her brother!
However, just as she rushed out by instinct, something throbbed inside her and she paused her step with a shocked gasp.
Only then did she remember the oath she was forced to make back when Vairoz was alive.
After all, he knew she was from Alterra. How could he dare keep her, a risk, without safety measures.
The oath was that she could not contact anyone she knew prior to the oath! Because it was so specific, the timeline was only five years. Did she really have to wait for that long?!
However, if they were the one to approach her, wouldn’t that be different?
But then she realized: even if those two saw her, they might not necessarily greet her!
They might even pretend not to know her!
She gritted her teeth, but when she patted her stomach, she calmed herself down.
It was not easy. She looked at herself in distaste and unconsciously compared herself to the fabulous appearance that woman had.
They were even escorted around by Virion, the man so powerful he was only next to the Lord!
The people around them seemed to be nobles and they were being escorted around! By city nobles!
That guy was known to be arrogant. Those that caught his eyes and could interact casually with him were few and far in between.
How far has Alterra gone while she was away? This is not fair!
She did not want to humiliate herself!
"That woman is scary..."
"She’s pretty. Too bad she looks evil..."
The voices around her snapped her out of her daze.
Vanessa’s hard expression froze. Image had always been important to her, but she kept destroying it over and over. As long as it had something to do with those two, she almost always lost face..
Who’d have thought a shopping trip would reap such results?
She was out shopping for food with Jecob and Jenia, though she had a tantrum and made them go away. They had encountered a windfall and wanted to buy something from the richer sectors. Who’d have thought she’d encounter acquiances from old life?
She looked in the direction they went and disappeared to.
Now that she thought about it, what were they doing here?
Was it a mission? Or were they planning on expanding their influence all the way here?
