Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Madeline Quinn Still Doesn’t Believe Me?

I leaned back in my chair, watching Julian Fletcher as if I were watching a show.

Hasn’t he always believed Erin Whittaker over me? Now the evidence has been thrown in his face. ’I really want to see what kind of excuse he can come up with now.’

When the recording finished, everyone’s expression was grim.

Zeke Lowell was leaning back in his chair, fiddling restlessly with a lighter, but smoking wasn’t allowed in the interrogation room.

"This is about a human life," Zeke Lowell said, his voice low.

Julian Fletcher remained silent the entire time.

You couldn’t read any change in his expression, but the atmosphere around him grew heavy.

I know him. He was angry.

The terrifying kind of angry.

"Julian Fletcher, you and Erin Whittaker killed her. You’re a murderer. You both are." Madeline Quinn’s voice was weak, as if she didn’t even have the energy to argue anymore.

The air around Julian Fletcher was still heavy as he looked coldly at Zeke Lowell. "So, what was the point of bringing this lunatic here? Isn’t he the one who killed someone?"

Julian Fletcher had turned his accusations on Sebastian Lancaster.

I almost wanted to laugh, but my heart was still throbbing with sharp pains.

I shot to my feet and looked at Julian Fletcher. "You’re disgusting."

"He’s not necessarily the murderer," Zeke Lowell said grimly, clearly having already halfway dismissed Sebastian Lancaster as a suspect.

Sebastian Lancaster had been sitting there in silence.

I had been so focused on Julian Fletcher’s dark aura that I hadn’t noticed the man beside me, Sebastian Lancaster, whose own aura had become so oppressive it felt like he was about to kill someone.

He shot a cold glance at Julian Fletcher, then suddenly stood up. Before anyone could react, he lunged forward, throwing punch after punch into Julian’s face as if he wanted to kill him.

I froze for a second before scrambling over in a panic to pull Sebastian Lancaster back. "Stop hitting him..."

"Why shouldn’t I? I’m going to kill him!" Sebastian Lancaster turned to look at me, his face spattered with Julian Fletcher’s blood.

My eyes reddened, and my trembling fingers let go of Sebastian Lancaster. "If you kill him... will that bring Cecilia Caldwell back to life?"

Julian Fletcher’s face was covered in blood. He just leaned against the wall, laughing like a madman... not even fighting back.

’I think he’s gone mad.’

’Like, truly insane.’

Asher is a lunatic, but Julian Fletcher looked even crazier than him.

"Go on, hit me..." Julian Fletcher provoked Sebastian Lancaster. "Hit me!"

’He probably thinks he deserves it, too.’

Sebastian Lancaster’s breathing was ragged. He raised his fist for another punch.

To the side, Zeke Lowell watched coldly, then glanced at the time. "That’s enough. This is a police station."

He could have stopped it from the very beginning, but he didn’t.

Even above the rules, there’s still a place for human sentiment.

Zeke Lowell also felt that Julian Fletcher deserved a beating.

Maybe getting punched a few times will knock some sense into him. ’I wonder if he’ll regret causing my death.’

"Julian Fletcher, you really deserve to die..." Madeline Quinn said, her voice trembling. "You and Erin Whittaker both deserve to die."

With that, Madeline Quinn lost control and ran off.

I stood my ground, holding onto Sebastian Lancaster.

Other officers burst in, unsure of who to grab. "Captain Lowell... there’s a fight..."

"He’s mentally ill," Zeke Lowell said grimly, then turned and walked away as well.

I gripped Sebastian Lancaster’s hand tightly and said in a low voice, "Asher, let’s go home."

It was as if my words pulled Sebastian Lancaster back to his senses. He glanced at me, his eyes red, and got to his feet. He looked down, his voice hoarse. "I’m sorry..."

He was apologizing to me.

With his head lowered, he cupped my face and repeated, "I’s sorry," over and over.

’Sorry for what?’

’I really don’t know...’

"It’s okay. Let’s go home," I said again.

Julian Fletcher watched me weakly, his gaze searing.

I was afraid his gaze would see right through to my soul, and I felt an urgent need to get Sebastian Lancaster out of there.

"Cecilia Caldwell..." he suddenly called out.

He called me Cecilia Caldwell.

My feet froze instinctively. I took a deep breath and didn’t turn back.

Zeke Lowell frowned. Seeing Julian Fletcher call me Cecilia Caldwell, he must have thought Julian had lost his mind.

"Cecilia Caldwell..." Julian Fletcher suddenly grew agitated, scrambling up to grab my wrist. "COUGH, COUGH... Cece? You’re Cece, aren’t you?"

I frowned, looking at him with disgust as I forcefully smacked his hand away. "Have you lost your mind, Mr. Fletcher?"

He froze on the spot, saying nothing.

Sebastian Lancaster shot a cold, warning look at Julian Fletcher, then took my hand and led me away.

From the moment we walked out of the interrogation room, my legs felt like jelly.

I was so scared he would recognize me.

I was scared he would discover that I was actually Cecilia Caldwell...

"Asher... go to the car," I said to Sebastian Lancaster, my voice a bit weak. "Go on to the car, be good."

’I need to see Zeke Lowell.’

’About the real murderer... he’s still out there killing people. We can’t let this drag on. Even without evidence, they can at least put him under surveillance to prevent him from killing again.’

I had already asked Madeline Quinn to tell Zeke Lowell about this. I don’t know if Zeke has found any concrete evidence in the past few days.

Sebastian Lancaster looked at me with concern, gently cupping my face. "Cece... don’t be sad."

I nodded and gave him a perfunctory push. "Hurry up and go to the car."

Sebastian Lancaster looked a little dejected as he left with his head hanging.

I glanced at him, then looked away.

Waiting in the hallway, I watched Julian Fletcher walk out, his face and clothes covered in blood.

He passed by me and stopped.

I tried my best to appear calm.

He didn’t speak, just looked at me. Suddenly, he raised a hand, as if to touch my face.

I instinctively slapped his hand away, glaring at him with eyes full of revulsion.

He froze for a second, stunned.

I, too, panicked for a moment. That reaction was too similar to how I used to resist his touch in the past.

Unconscious little movements, the look in my eyes, the details...

Julian Fletcher stood there, staring at me for a long time, as if trying to see right through me.

I kept my brow furrowed, my hands clenched into tight fists. "Are you sick?"

Julian Fletcher didn’t say a word. After Zeke Lowell came out, he quickly walked away.

I let out a breath of relief. ’A normal person wouldn’t figure out that I’m Cecilia Caldwell.’

’Even Sebastian Lancaster didn’t really figure out that I’m Cecilia Caldwell.’

"You were waiting for me?" Zeke Lowell walked over and asked.

He looked me up and down, seemingly distrustful.

"I..." I was so agitated that I almost said I was Cecilia Caldwell.

But if I had, he would have lumped me in the same category as Sebastian Lancaster—mentally ill.

"Officer Lowell, I’m Sebastian Lancaster’s wife and his legal guardian. The information I had Ms. Madeline Quinn give you before... about the murderer... did you look into it?" I asked in a small, nervous voice.

Zeke Lowell watched me warily. "What does this case have to do with you?"

I was taken aback for a moment, then took a deep breath. "Because Sebastian Lancaster is my husband. I don’t want him to be wrongfully accused. I want to find the real culprit and clear his name."

Because Sebastian Lancaster was still a suspect, just out on bail.

Zeke Lowell seemed to begrudgingly accept this explanation. "She didn’t tell me anything about a murderer. What is it?"

I froze. Madeline Quinn didn’t tell Zeke Lowell?

’Does she still not trust me?’
