Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Scumbags Are a Match Made in Heaven

Of course, I never expected the Lancaster family to pay for Silvia Lynch’s grandmother’s medical care, but now that I knew what cards Evan Lynch was holding, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect.

If Evan Lynch thought I was still the same old, easy-to-manipulate Silvia Lynch, he was sorely mistaken.

The old Silvia might have had some affection for Evan Lynch and his wife, feeling the pull of familial bonds, but I don’t.

My real parents died in a car crash when I was eighteen. As for Evan Lynch and his wife, they are unworthy of being called parents, as far as I’m concerned.

"Dad, you’ve misunderstood. What I mean is, I’m the one in charge of the Lancaster family now. Master Lancaster is coming back to the country, but he’s had a stroke and has no real power. That Dylan Lancaster fellow isn’t waking up either. Now, everyone in the Lancaster family has to listen to me," I said quickly with a smile.

Evan Lynch snorted and narrowed his eyes. "The Lynn family raised you for all these years. Even though you only came back at eighteen, we’ve still nurtured you from then until now. Your mother and I are your biological parents. We’re bound by blood. We rise and fall together as a family. You’d better understand that."

I nodded quickly. "Dad, I understand completely."

Evan Lynch nodded. "We still need to figure out how to take over the Lancaster Group as soon as possible. That Master Lancaster has a stranglehold on the company. If we wait, he’ll slowly steal everything from the Lancaster family. They won’t go easy on you."

"Dad, do you have a plan?" I asked in a low voice.

Evan Lynch glanced at me. "Find a way to get your sister a position at the Lancaster Group. You came back too late. Your education is lacking, you don’t know how to manage anything, and you don’t have any real skills. Get your sister in there to help you. Once she establishes a firm foothold in the company, you’ll transfer the shares you get into her name."

I looked at Evan Lynch with a smile. His scheming was so obvious it was practically hitting me in the face.

’Why on earth would I give my shares to Noelle Lynch?’

’That’s hilarious...’

"Dad, it’s not that easy to just place someone in the Lancaster Group. Noelle is so capable, she should get in on her own merit, don’t you think? I’ve never been involved with a company before, how would I know how to plant someone inside?" I said quietly. "If Noelle can’t even pass the Lancaster Group’s hiring process, how can she take on such a great responsibility and convince others to trust her?"

I sighed. "Dad, I’m just thinking about our grand plan. What do you think?"

Evan Lynch glanced at me, then nodded. "Fine. I’ll arrange it. Your job is to pave the way for your sister and Ken Abbott."

I didn’t say anything. Evan Lynch spoke again. "Silvia, you’re part of the Lancaster family now. There are some things you just have to let your sister have. You and Ken Abbott just weren’t meant to be."

I just smiled and said nothing.

Ken Abbott was Silvia Lynch’s boyfriend. I’d heard he was a rich heir, but the Abbott family had clearly fallen on hard times in recent years, and Ken himself wasn’t particularly capable. That’s why he and Noelle Lynch were now scheming to get their hands on the Lancaster family’s fortune.

Heh. They certainly had some nerve. Talk about being greedy enough to swallow an elephant.

"If there’s nothing else, you can go back. Get yourself ready," Evan Lynch said with a wave of his hand.

I raised an eyebrow. ’What kind of father was this? He calls me all the way back here and doesn’t even offer me a meal...’

’Noelle Lynch stole Silvia Lynch’s boyfriend, and I’m supposed to help her get into the Lancaster Group, give her my shares, and even help out that scumbag?’

Back when I was with the Fletcher family, I just felt that Julian Fletcher bullied me. I was living under his roof, and any resistance would only be met with a vicious beating, so I had to grit my teeth and bear it.

’But that doesn’t mean I’m an idiot.’

I never thought the Lynches would be so brazen about treating someone like a fool. It was clear just how lowly and stripped of her rights the original Silvia Lynch must have been all these years in the Lynn family.

"Since there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now." I stood up, glanced at the time, and turned to leave.

...

In the courtyard, Noelle Lynch was crying and whining to a man.

"What’s she acting so smug about? She actually dared to hit me! What gives her the right to hit me?" Noelle Lynch whined to the man.

"Does she think she’s so great just because she married into the Lancasters? There’s no one left in the Lancaster family anyway. She married an idiot, what’s there to be proud of? I heard he’s a homeless idiot who’s been picking through trash for years—dirty and ugly."

Noelle Lynch complained to the man.

I stood a short distance away and scoffed. ’Sebastian Lancaster, ugly? I’ve never seen a more handsome man in my entire life.’

"There, there, Noelle, don’t cry. We won’t stoop to her level. She’s just a dull, unromantic fool. An idiot for an idiot—they’re a match made in heaven," the man soothed Noelle. "No matter how arrogant she acts, she’s still just working for you. Once she gets her hands on the Lancaster Group’s shares and transfers them to you, the entire Lancaster Group will be ours."

’Still lost in their little pipe dream, I see.’

"I could smell something foul from a mile away. Don’t start going into heat in broad daylight," I said with disgust as I walked up to them.

Noelle Lynch’s face darkened with rage. "Silvia Lynch, what nonsense are you spouting?"

I glanced at Noelle Lynch, then at the man who must be Ken Abbott. "You two really are a perfect match. You deserve each other."

"What’s that saying again?" I raised an eyebrow. "A bitch and a dog, a match to last for an eternity."

Furious, Noelle Lynch lunged forward to attack me but was held back by Ken Abbott.

"Silvia, how could you become like this? How can you say that about your own sister?" Ken Abbott said, his face a mask of utter disappointment in me.

’For a scumbag like him... even speaking to him was more respect than he deserved.’

"If I don’t say it like that, how should I say it? Should I hit her while I say it?" I raised my hand as if to slap Noelle Lynch.

Terrified, Noelle Lynch hid behind Ken Abbott.

Ken Abbott moved to shield Noelle Lynch.

"If you dare to lay a finger on me, and something happens to the baby in my belly, let’s see how you’ll handle that." I knew Ken Abbott wouldn’t dare to touch me.

’These people were all counting on this little one to get their shares and fight for the Lancaster Group. I was carrying the heir to the Lancaster family, after all.’

Sure enough, Ken Abbott froze for a moment and didn’t dare to step forward.

I grabbed Noelle Lynch and gave her a sharp slap across the face.

’I had suppressed myself for too long before I died. I’d finally been reborn, and I was even carrying the Lancaster family’s baby. Of course, I was going to be arrogant.’

’If everyone had something to fall back on, who wouldn’t want to be brazen?’

"Silvia! You’ve gone too far! Look at yourself, is this any way to act?!" Ken Abbott shouted, pulling Noelle Lynch into his arms.

"Act? Why should I act proper? Noelle is a real work of art. You should go get her framed," I sneered, then turned and walked away.

Noelle Lynch clutched her face, her whole body trembling with anger. "Ken Abbott, you just stood there and watched her hit me."

"Just bear with it. She can only be this arrogant for a little while. Once we coax her into handing over the shares, won’t she be completely at your mercy? Besides, she married an idiot who’s ugly, dirty, and completely unpresentable. At the class reunion in a few days, she’s going to be utterly humiliated," Ken Abbott whispered soothingly.

"Everyone is supposed to bring their significant other to this reunion. She married an idiot she definitely can’t show in public. When the time comes..."

I had only walked a few steps when I paused.

’A class reunion?’

Silvia Lynch, Noelle Lynch, and Ken Abbott had all been high school classmates. The original Silvia transferred in during her senior year, had terrible grades, and didn’t get into a good university.

Noelle Lynch, on the other hand, was sent to study abroad right after high school graduation and snatched Ken Abbott away as soon as she returned.

I wasn’t particularly interested in any of that. The only thing that caught my attention was my memory that most of the women murdered by that serial killer had graduated from this same high school. I had graduated from there myself. I just started school early, so I was a year ahead of Silvia Lynch.
