Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Julian Fletcher Wants to Kill Asher

"It’s raining. Don’t you know enough to get out of it?" I ran to the bench, grabbed him, and pulled him into a shopping mall to take shelter.

"You told me not to go... so I’ll wait forever." His eyes were fixed on me, completely serious.

I froze. I didn’t know why my head suddenly started to throb with pain.

The moment felt like déjà vu, so familiar.

"Cece, you won’t lie to me, right?" He seemed nervous, as if seeking confirmation of something.

The light rain had dampened his hair. That face... it was just so damn hauntingly beautiful.

"Put your shoes on," I said, my voice hoarse as I lowered my head. This man was truly like a siren.

’He must be a master of bewitching people; that’s probably why even the police don’t think he’s the killer.’

I had Asher sit on a bench while I tended to the wound on his foot. I carefully wrapped it in gauze before putting his sock and shoe back on.

He braced himself on the bench and just watched me, motionless and obedient as a big dog.

’I was actually a little curious. Which side of him was the real one?’

"Did Dylan Lancaster give you any trouble after he woke up?" I asked, looking up.

"Mhm..." He nodded pitifully and held out his arm, revealing the bruises. It was clearly a defensive wound from being hit, his forearm black and blue.

"That psycho..." I cursed under my breath, looking at his arm. "We’re going to the hospital."

Asher shook his head and, in a swift motion, grabbed my fingers.

I instinctively tried to pull back, but he held on tight.

His fingertips were a little cold, but where they touched me... there was a strange, tingling numbness. "You... let go."

Asher didn’t speak, only tightening his grip on my wrist.

Just as I was about to lose my temper and curse him out, he spoke. "It hurts..."

I paused. In an instant, my anger seemed to evaporate. ’I’ll just play along for now and see what he’s up to.’ "I don’t think you’re in any pain at all!"

’If his arm was really broken, he wouldn’t have the strength to grab me.’

He stared at me for a long time before finally letting go. "Don’t leave me. Don’t lie to me again."

I crouched in front of him, at a loss for words.

"Heh, it’s true what they say about enemies crossing paths. This idiot even ran away from the Lancaster estate on his own today."

It was true, enemies really did have a way of finding each other. That voice... I knew right away it was one of Julian Fletcher’s cronies, Brian Morgan.

My face cold, I glanced back. Brian Morgan was shopping in the mall with a woman; it was just an unlucky coincidence that we ran into him.

He had probably already called Julian Fletcher. After the scene Erin Whittaker made today, Julian must think Asher was responsible. He trusts Erin so completely, he must be champing at the bit to come and cause trouble for Asher.

Asher’s eyes instantly turned cold. Like a venomous snake arching its back, ready to strike, he rose and shielded me behind him.

"Ha! Even idiots can get a girl these days?" Brian Morgan sneered, holding the woman in his arms. "You’re unlucky to have run into me today! I don’t care if you’re faking crazy or just plain stupid..."

Brian Morgan didn’t dare step forward. He only had the guts to talk tough in public, since Asher had once nearly beaten him to death.

Besides, Asher was still the prime suspect in a psychopathic murder case. Brian Morgan’s courage only went so far.

"And these days, even animals can talk?" I let out a sarcastic laugh and deliberately added, "Asher, you have a mental illness diagnosis anyway. Why don’t you take this chance to kill him?"

Brian Morgan’s face went white with fear. He instinctively backed away, hiding behind the woman.

Asher glanced at me, his expression as serious as could be. "Okay!"

With that, his gaze shifted to Brian Morgan. It was cold and vicious, as if he were already looking at a dead man. It sent a chill down my spine.

Brian Morgan’s legs started to tremble. "You, you crazy woman... What are you saying?!"

"Asher, kill him," I continued, stoking the flames. In reality, though, I was gripping Asher’s arm tightly, terrified he would actually go and hurt someone.

Asher took a step forward but I held him back. He turned to look at me.

Brian Morgan was so scared his legs had turned to jelly. He let out a yell, turned to run, and had just reached the entrance when Julian Fletcher walked in with more than a dozen bodyguards.

Instantly, Brian Morgan’s bravado returned. He stammered, "That lunatic is over there! Julian, hurry up and get him to a mental hospital! Have him shot."

I watched Julian Fletcher and his bodyguards warily, stepping forward to shield Asher behind me. "In broad daylight, Mr. Fletcher, what do you think you’re doing? Throwing your weight around?"

Julian Fletcher lit a cigarette and glanced at me. "Move."

"In your dreams." I glared at Julian Fletcher, my gaze icy.

Julian Fletcher took a deep drag from his cigarette, snapped his lighter shut, and looked back at his bodyguards. "Take him."

"Julian Fletcher, this is a society governed by law! You think you can just drag someone away? Have you asked for the law’s permission?" I shielded Asher and gave the bodyguards a warning look.

"The law... He’s a lunatic who kills without batting an eye. Even if I killed him, I’d be doing a public service." Julian Fletcher stepped forward, his voice dripping with hatred. "What he did to Cecilia Caldwell, I will repay him a hundred times over."

"You have the nerve to say something like that?" I scoffed, shoving Julian Fletcher.

’And how did you treat Cecilia Caldwell?’

"Take him away!" Julian Fletcher insisted.

I frowned, knowing Julian Fletcher was doing this for Erin Whittaker.

’It seems Madeline Quinn hasn’t sent Julian Fletcher the video of Jake Abbott yet...’

"Julian, if you don’t kill him, I won’t be able to sleep at night. Besides, Erin Whittaker is carrying your child. The baby is the most important thing," Brian Morgan added, fanning the flames.

Julian Fletcher looked displeased. "Shut up."

Brian Morgan froze.

"Julian Fletcher!" His men were coming to grab Asher. Asher’s fighting skills were good, but he was outnumbered by more than a dozen men.

Clearly, Julian Fletcher had learned from experience in trying to capture Asher. Five or six men were no match for him; it took more than a dozen.

"Julian Fletcher, let him go!" I tried to stop them from taking Asher, but Julian Fletcher wouldn’t listen to me at all.

Julian Fletcher ignored me and had his men take Asher away.

"Julian Fletcher, don’t you want to know who really killed Cecilia Caldwell?" I yelled at him.

Julian Fletcher stopped in his tracks and looked back at me. "It was this lunatic."

"It was you," I said through gritted teeth, my voice thick with hatred.

Julian Fletcher’s expression as he looked at me was complicated. He frowned. "I won’t let anyone who hurt Cecilia Caldwell get away."

I found his words laughable. "Then what about you? Shouldn’t you be sentenced to death by a thousand cuts?"

Julian Fletcher stepped forward, his oppressive aura bearing down on me as he looked down at me.

Subconsciously, I was still afraid of him. I took a step back.

"Don’t try to provoke me. Even if you tell Master Lancaster, I won’t let him go today." Julian Fletcher’s eyes were bloodshot, as if he was ready to throw all caution to the wind.

"Antagonizing the Lancaster Family, given the Fletcher Family’s current situation, will only lead to mutual destruction," I threatened through clenched teeth.

"Do you think I care?" he sneered. "Do you have any idea what this lunatic did to my wife?"

’Wife?’ I frowned. ’Erin Whittaker? Hah...’

’Erin Whittaker herself knows best whether Asher ever hurt her or not.’

"Even if it costs me everything, I’ll make him wish he were dead." Julian Fletcher’s voice was trembling, as if he had truly lost all restraint.

"Mr. Fletcher, I have a very interesting video here. Would you like to see it?" At the mall entrance, Madeline Quinn ran in, breathing heavily.

I had just sent her my location. I hadn’t expected her to get here so fast.
