After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 46: They Finally Found Me
Chapter 46: Chapter 46: They Finally Found Me
"Maniac! You’re a complete maniac!"
Zeke Shaw kicked Asher before his colleagues pulled him away.
"Lowell, this isn’t the time to be impulsive. We don’t know why he’s so hell-bent on confessing to the murder, but... a lot of the timelines don’t add up."
Zeke Shaw took a deep breath and stood up straight.
Asher, however, suddenly pointed at himself in terror. "It was me... I... killed her. Kill me..."
He was telling Zeke Shaw to kill him.
Zeke Shaw frowned. "Keep investigating," he ordered. "Don’t stop until he tells the truth."
Even if Asher confessed, he had a psychiatric evaluation and numerous alibis. How could they possibly convict him?
Plus, Master Lancaster had the best legal team money could buy. This was clearly a dead end.
A commotion erupted outside—it was the sound of Julian Fletcher’s frenzied shouts.
He was trying to burst in and kill Asher.
I stood at the door of the interrogation room, ignoring Julian Fletcher’s ravings.
’I didn’t care anymore, and I didn’t love him anymore.’
I watched Asher, my gaze scrutinizing him.
He’d admitted to being the killer...
’But why did I have a feeling something was wrong?’
His jacket was in tatters from the assault.
Asher sat by the interrogation table wearing only a short-sleeved shirt. His face was ashen, like a walking corpse.
In that moment, he was as beautiful as a corpse doll.
I stood beside Asher, trying to see through him, but I couldn’t figure him out at all.
My gaze fell to the back of Asher’s hands. His fingers were so beautifully long and slender, yet they were covered in scars from burns.
It was like a flawless piece of white porcelain, now marred by imperfections and cracks.
I remembered that hand. When I was locked in the wooden crate, he had picked up an axe and walked out, one step at a time.
My eyes traveled up from his fingers, and my heart suddenly clenched.
’Something’s not right...’
The inside of Asher’s upper arm was smooth, without any blemishes or scars. ’This isn’t right...’
Before I died, I had struggled desperately, my nails digging hard into the killer’s inner arm, tearing out flesh and blood.
Not much time had passed since my death. Even if the wounds had healed, they would have left scars. ’This isn’t right...’
’This isn’t right.’
’Did he really have an accomplice?’
"Get out of my way! Let me in, I’m going to kill him!" Julian Fletcher was still yelling, his emotions spiraling out of control.
I turned to look back through the window at the unhinged Julian Fletcher, my feelings a complicated mess. ’What’s he barking on about?’
’Isn’t he the reason I ended up like this?’
THUD! Unable to tolerate it any longer, Zeke Shaw punched Julian Fletcher.
Finally, it was quiet.
"Lowell! Lowell... We found her... We found... Cecilia Caldwell... We found her."
A female officer ran in from outside, panicked and nearly tripping.
Julian Fletcher’s eyes were red as he lost control and grabbed the officer’s shoulders. "What? Cecilia Caldwell... Where is she?"
Zeke Shaw was also stunned. He looked at the officer. "What?"
"Morgan and the others... they found a cellar at the abandoned orphanage. Cecilia Caldwell is in the cellar..."
Madeline Quinn also scrambled to her feet and ran over. "She’s still alive, right? She’s alive, isn’t she?"
"It’s okay if she doesn’t have her eyes, medical technology is so advanced now... She’s still alive, isn’t she?" Madeline Quinn’s voice was trembling.
The female officer said nothing, just lowered her head. "Captain Lowell... you should come with us."
Zeke Shaw’s heart sank. He gave Julian Fletcher a meaningful look.
Julian Fletcher stood frozen in place, suddenly silent.
It was a terrifying silence.
"I knew it... She wouldn’t die. This whole show... wasn’t it all just to get me to marry her?" Julian Fletcher muttered, his words laced with scorn.
’I wanted to laugh, but I couldn’t.’
’Right now, I just want to see my body and what kind of mess they’ve made of it.’
"Madeline Quinn... you probably shouldn’t come," the female officer said kindly.
Madeline Quinn clenched her fists, her gaze resolute.
The female officer glanced at Zeke Shaw.
Zeke Shaw didn’t speak, which was a silent confirmation.
Something had happened to Cecilia Caldwell. Everyone had to accept that fact.
