Chapter 202: Chapter 201: Victor Quinn Intentionally Let Silvia Lynch Get Close to Sebastian Lancaster?

I initially didn’t want to deal with Erin Whittaker. After all... if Julian Fletcher had actually killed himself, she definitely wouldn’t have the energy to come here and cause a scene.

Her showing up here, shouting and screaming, seemed more like a deliberate act.

If I was right, there were probably reporters or someone else watching nearby.

Erin Whittaker was putting on a show.

I frowned. Every move this woman made now felt like the next step in her and Victor Quinn’s conspiracy.

But, of all things, Asher was drawn out by the commotion.

Asher walked into the courtyard and looked at Erin Whittaker outside.

Erin was clearly scared, taking a nervous step back. "Sebastian Lancaster... Julian Fletcher tried to kill himself, and it was Silvia Lynch’s fault! Her identity... have you never once suspected it?"

Asher stared at Erin coolly. "Not leaving? Release the dog."

Asher raised a hand. The deaf-mute groundskeeper moved to open the gate, and Stella eagerly prepared to charge out.

Erin looked at Asher in terror, her face pale with fear.

"I have proof!" Erin shouted anxiously. "Sebastian Lancaster... I have proof that Silvia Lynch is a fake... She isn’t Cecilia Caldwell! She’s been lying to you all!"

Trembling, Erin Whittaker took out an envelope, and a pile of photos fell out of it.

Asher had no intention of engaging with her and told the butler to open the gate.

The gate opened a crack, and Stella shot out like a rocket.

Erin Whittaker screamed in terror, turned and ran to her car, and slammed the door shut.

Asher walked coolly to the gate. Seeing that Erin had been scared off, he finally glanced down at the photos on the ground.

I couldn’t see the photos from upstairs, but I had a vague feeling that things weren’t that simple.

Erin Whittaker wouldn’t have come all this way for nothing.

I hurried downstairs, wanting to see what she had brought, but by the time I got there, Asher had already torn up all the photos.

"What was Erin Whittaker shouting about?" I asked.

Asher instinctively hid the shredded photos behind his back. "Nothing... She’s crazy."

I didn’t say anything, nor did I ask about the photos.

Asher didn’t mention the photos either. He walked over to me with his head lowered. "Cece... are you still mad at me?"

I remained silent.

Asher kept his head down, not daring to look up at me.

"Silvia Lynch." Outside the gate, another black car pulled up.

The window rolled down, revealing Julian Fletcher’s mother inside.

I froze for a moment. ’Is Mrs. Fletcher back this time because Julian attempted suicide?’

’Did he really try to kill himself?’

"Mrs. Fletcher," I said, still maintaining a respectful tone.

"Let’s talk." Mrs. Fletcher looked at me with a cold expression, her gaze shifting to Asher. "Pardon me, but I need to borrow your wife for a moment."

Asher grabbed hold of me, looking back at Mrs. Fletcher just as coldly. "I’m not lending her to you."

Mrs. Fletcher’s expression darkened. She spoke lightly, "You sold off the Lancaster family’s entire foundation. You’re the laughingstock of Meridia’s entire business community now. A man with nothing. What right do you have to speak to me with such an attitude?"

’Mrs. Fletcher was speaking the truth. Sebastian Lancaster had sold the Lancaster family business to Astraeus. To the Lancaster family, this was an act of betrayal, of selling off their very foundation.’

’And in the business world, it was a joke.’

’Who in their right mind would sell off their family’s assets to someone else at a bargain price? Isn’t that something only a complete fool would do?’

’Moreover, this move had sent Master Lancaster and the other vampires in the Lancaster family into a frenzy.’

’Now, Astraeus was starting to clean house, initiating a major shake-up after acquiring the Lancaster Group. Although Master Lancaster was too preoccupied to deal with Asher for the time being, he surely hated him to the bone by now.’

’He would definitely make a move against Asher; it was only a matter of time.’

I frowned and stepped in front of Asher. "Mrs. Fletcher, whatever Asher has done is our family’s business. You haven’t done such a great job raising your own son, either. If you hadn’t kept such a tight lid on the news, Julian Fletcher probably would have become the laughingstock of all of Meridia back when Cecilia Caldwell died."

Mrs. Fletcher’s expression darkened again. She gave me a meaningful look. "Silvia Lynch, get in the car. You’ll want to talk with me."

When I didn’t move, Mrs. Fletcher spoke again. "When I give you an opportunity, you should be sure to cherish it."

’I guessed Mrs. Fletcher had come to see me about Julian.’

’But judging by her current state, Julian’s suicide attempt must not have been life-threatening.’

"Cece..." Asher tugged on my sleeve, refusing to let me go with Mrs. Fletcher.

"Sir." Owen Foster had also arrived, and he seemed to be in a hurry.

He walked up to Asher’s ear and whispered something to him.

Asher’s face fell. He glanced at Julian’s mother, then said to me in a low voice, "Cece, there’s a problem at the Lancaster Group. I have to go deal with it. Don’t leave the house, and don’t go with her."

’Asher had already sold the Lancaster Group to the Astraeus Group. What could have happened now to make him so tense?’

I looked at Asher, wishing he would explain things to me. As his current ’wife,’ I was worried about his situation and his safety.

’But it seemed like Asher never considered my feelings as a ’wife’.’

’It was as if I were just some fragile object he placed on a pedestal, protected under a glass dome, to be kept ignorant of everything.’

’Just like that time he and Lucas Grant plotted to get into the mental hospital to investigate Victor Quinn...’

’He clearly could have told me beforehand.’

’But he didn’t.’

"Be good. Wait for me at home." ’Just as I expected, he was still the same.’

’He just left, without a single word of explanation.’

I took a deep breath and said nothing, watching Owen Foster drive him away.

Felix Foster, sitting in the passenger seat, never got out of the car. He just sat there looking at me, his brow furrowed. He didn’t look friendly, but his gaze was complex.

After Asher got in the car, he and Felix Foster seemed to be in constant conversation. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but I felt completely shut out by them.

It was a very uncomfortable feeling.

Like when there’s a friendship of three, but two of them huddle together to whisper secrets, leaving the third one out.

"An employee at the Lancaster Group couldn’t handle the pressure of the leadership change and jumped off a building to their death. The public opinion that was once favorable to Sebastian Lancaster has now shifted," Mrs. Fletcher said lightly, answering my unspoken question.

My head snapped up, and I stared at Mrs. Fletcher.

"So, you see, Sebastian Lancaster is the villain. He’s the villain of the entire Lancaster Group." Mrs. Fletcher sneered. "Truly, only an idiot could do something like this."

’Did he think selling the company would solve everything once and for all? That move might work against an upright person, but against an incarnation of evil like Master Lancaster, it was practically playing with fire.’

"Sebastian Lancaster is still too young. He can’t handle Master Lancaster." Mrs. Fletcher was telling me in no uncertain terms that Sebastian couldn’t win.

"It’s not over till it’s over. People who do such unconscionable things will get what’s coming to them sooner or later," I said in a low voice.

"How naive. That’s just something losers tell themselves to feel better. Throughout history, the victors have always written the tales. How many brothers did Arthur Lawson kill to ascend the throne? How many bones were buried when the First Emperor unified the land? Behind every great fortune and all-encompassing power, is there not a mountain of blood and bodies?"

Mrs. Fletcher sounded like she was lecturing me, but also mocking herself. "I know Victor Quinn sent you to provoke my son. You were very successful. He tried to kill himself. Are you satisfied now?"

I froze, watching Mrs. Fletcher warily. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
