After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 167: Another Murder Case in the Street Alley
Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Another Murder Case in the Street Alley
"Cece..." Julian Fletcher seemed anxious, wanting to take me away. "Come with me first. They’ve already called the police. I’ll figure something out."
In the crowd, Erin Whittaker shrieked, deliberately escalating the situation, then looked at Julian in a panic. "Julian, what’s... Did someone get murdered?"
Julian Fletcher frowned. "He’s not dead yet."
"Julian... what’s going on? Could it be Silvia..." Erin Whittaker glanced at me intentionally, staring in horror at the blood on my clothes. "Silvia, you were too vicious. What are we going to do? This is intentional homicide. You’ll be sentenced for this."
Julian’s expression wasn’t good. His hand, gripping my wrist, refused to let go. "Come with me first. I’ll find a way to get you out on bail."
"Are you crazy?" Felix Foster walked over, knocking Julian’s hand away from mine. "Even a high schooler like me knows that self-defense isn’t a crime."
"She... But she was too vicious. This is excessive force," Erin Whittaker said, deliberately covering her mouth. "So many people are watching."
"So many people are watching you stand here running your mouth?" Felix shot Erin a glare. "You’re the one who looks like excessive force."
Yanking the car door open, Felix shoved me inside without a second thought. "Him! He smashed the car door, grabbed her, pulled a knife, and tried to kill her. She disarmed him and stabbed him a few times to stop him from committing another crime. There’s nothing wrong with that."
Soon, the police and paramedics arrived.
’I bet the Lancaster Family was hoping their son-in-law would just die right then and there.’
’Then I really would be guilty of using excessive force.’
What a shame, though.
He was just bleeding a scary amount; his life wasn’t in danger.
The doctors and nurses examined his wounds and sucked in a sharp breath. "Ten stabs... Every single one missed a vital organ. The wounds aren’t deep, either. This will probably just be classified as a minor injury..."
The son-in-law, his face pale with fright, was carried into the ambulance, trembling.
I wasn’t sure if the wounds were fatal, but the shock might just scare him to death.
"Impressive..." A familiar voice came from outside the car.
Leaning against the car, teasing me, was Lucas Grant.
Lucas must have been one of the responding officers. "Silvia Lynch... How did you manage to miss every vital organ, and so cleanly at that...?"
Lucas eyed me suspiciously, his gloved fingers tapping lightly on the car door.
’I knew he was interrogating me.’
"I don’t know..." I really didn’t. My mind was a complete blank about what I’d just done.
"There was a case years ago. A boy at an orphanage was stabbed. The wounds weren’t deep, none of them fatal. The boy’s life wasn’t in danger, but when he woke up, he’d been scared out of his mind... Guess who it was that stabbed him and drove him insane with fear?" Lucas studied me.
His eyes seemed to see right through me.
I instinctively looked away. "I don’t know."
"The attacker’s name was Cecilia Caldwell," Lucas said in a low voice.
My body stiffened, and I instinctively looked up at Lucas.
’Me?’
’I don’t remember any of it.’
"Miss Silvia Lynch, please come with us," Lucas said in a low voice, asking me to get out of the car.
"It was self-defense! Why should she..." Felix tried to stop them but was held back by Owen Foster.
"Regardless of the circumstances, she is obligated to cooperate with the police investigation," Lucas said coldly, giving Felix a warning look.
My legs felt a little weak as I got out of the car.
Lucas pulled a white handkerchief from his pocket and smilingly wiped the blood from my cheek.
"HISS..." I sucked in a sharp breath. It was the spot where the car’s window glass had cut me, and it stung.
Lucas chuckled and invited me into the police car.
"Don’t let her get away! She’s a murderer!" the old woman and her daughter were still crying and shouting.
Lucas looked at the mother and daughter coldly. "Your husband isn’t dead yet. If he’s not dead, how can she be a murderer?"
The woman froze, intimidated by Lucas’s presence, and didn’t dare to speak again.
I got into the police car and nodded at Owen, letting him know I was okay.
’Right now, what worries me most is still Asher.’
"Take this for DNA testing. Compare it to Cecilia Caldwell’s DNA," I overheard from inside the car as Lucas handed the handkerchief he’d used to wipe my face to another officer.
’He suspects... that I’m not Silvia Lynch, but Cecilia Caldwell.’
’Too bad... he’d probably never guess it’s a case of reincarnation.’
’And this body is, in fact, Silvia Lynch’s.’
"That’s impossible, right? Cecilia Caldwell is definitely dead. Her body was in that glass case. It shocked all of Meridia," the other officer said, confused.
"I suspect someone pulled a switch," Lucas sneered. "Go investigate. Don’t underestimate certain lunatics..."
Lucas got into the car and sat down next to me.
I glanced at Lucas but said nothing.
"I heard the police had that lunatic forcibly committed to a mental hospital? That’s a good place for him. Lunatics belong in mental hospitals." Lucas was being quite talkative.
I clenched my fists and spoke. "Then where should you go, Mr. Grant? A beauty salon? After all, you care so much about your face. If you get beaten up again and your looks are ruined... wouldn’t you just have to jump off a building?"
A muscle in the corner of Lucas’s eye twitched with anger. "Hah..."
He let out a laugh, then said nonchalantly, "Sebastian Lancaster really has a collecting habit, doesn’t he? He only likes the Cecilia Caldwell type. It’s true... only a lunatic can attract another lunatic. You two are the same kind."
"True, we are the same kind. You’re the other kind—the one that isn’t quite human."
"Sharp-tongued," Lucas bit out.
Outside the car window.
Julian Fletcher was still negotiating with the police.
"She was protecting herself. Though she might have been a bit vicious... her life was threatened."
’I sneered. Was he trying to help me or screw me over?’
As the police car drove me away, Julian watched me with a complicated expression.
It was as if I was just born bad, and his face was a mixture of pity and concern.
’It was like he was lamenting how bad I was.’
"Cece... Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of there," Julian was still trying to comfort me.
"You should worry about your life-saver. Don’t let her get offed by a murderer." I made a throat-slitting gesture.
Julian stood frozen in place, watching me being taken away.
Erin Whittaker clung to Julian’s arm in fear. "Julian, she’s so scary..."
"They say that when two people are together for a long time, they start to become more alike," Lucas said, looking at me. "You and Sebastian Lancaster are quite similar."
"Can you tell me about Sebastian Lancaster and Cecilia Caldwell?" I wanted to know...
’And Lucas, despite his smart mouth, was at least objective. He was above lying.’
"Sebastian Lancaster and Cecilia Caldwell?" Lucas laughed. "What’s there to say about a pair of lunatics?"
He had a look of disdain on his face, but he spoke with relish.
"Sebastian Lancaster has been cold since he was a kid. Back in school, we were desk-mates. I’d ask him for help with homework and he wouldn’t even give me the time of day!"
"..." I took a deep breath. ’I wanted to hear about Sebastian and Cecilia, not Sebastian and him.’
...
Lucas spouted nonsense the whole way, mostly about his and Sebastian’s epic saga of love and hate. I didn’t hear a single relevant word.
The police car pulled into the station’s courtyard. Before Lucas could even get out, his phone rang.
"Grant, something’s happened! Another murder in Street Alley! It’s a male body! Time of death is within the last two hours."
The color instantly drained from Lucas’s face.
After Ash’s death, there hadn’t been another murder for a long time. The higher-ups had even held a meeting to discuss officially closing the Twin Star Loop murder case.
Just when everyone had let their guard down, someone else had died.
"Are we sure Sebastian Lancaster is in the mental hospital?" Lucas asked instinctively. His prime suspect was still Asher.
