Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Asher is Really Obedient

I smiled. Jude Lynch and Master Lancaster had clearly come prepared to kick me out of the Lancaster family first.

Because of our marriage contract, I was Sebastian Lancaster’s legal guardian. Among his family, only I had the right to commit him to a mental hospital.

If I were gone, guardianship of Sebastian Lancaster would fall to one of the family elders.

At that point, Master Lancaster could do whatever he pleased with Sebastian Lancaster.

"Who says I wasn’t aware? I wanted to marry Sebastian Lancaster. I am his wife and his sole guardian. Is there a problem with that?" I stood up, facing Master Lancaster and Jude Lynch.

"Master Lancaster, Sebastian is renting this house. No one knew we lived here, but a while ago I was nearly killed at home... The address was leaked, and today you show up so brazenly. It couldn’t be..." I looked at Master Lancaster. "The one who wants me dead... it’s you, isn’t it?"

The Lancaster family’s power struggle has already attracted widespread attention from the media and the public. The online buzz is intense.

If Master Lancaster wants to clean up his image and take over the Lancaster Group, he has to play the part of a good, kind person in public. So he can’t let anything happen to Sebastian Lancaster and me, at least not openly.

But he can sow discord.

"Silvia, the police told us how to find this place. As an elder of the Lancaster family, I also have the right to ensure your safety." Master Lancaster smiled. "Silvia, you’re a smart girl. Leaving the Lancaster family has no downsides for you, only upsides. Anything you want, anything you deserve, the Lancaster family will give you. You’ll have more money than you can spend, and we’ll even help cover the Lynn family’s financial gap. This is for your own good."

The hard approach didn’t work, so Master Lancaster decided to try the soft one.

As an outsider, Zeke Shaw didn’t say anything, but he was worried these people might try to harm me, so he and Stella stood guard vigilantly by my side.

"Silvia, your mother and I have certainly neglected you over the years. I was so confused back then. I never should have agreed to let you marry into the Lancaster family. My daughter should never have married a fool." Jude Lynch’s voice broke, and he wiped away a tear. "Silvia, come back with Dad. The Abbott family has already broken off the engagement with Noelle. Ken Abbott says you’re still the one he loves. As long as you’re willing to get a divorce, come back, and get rid of that child, he won’t mind that you’ve been married before. He’ll take you as his wife."

As Jude Lynch spoke, he kept glancing toward a car nearby.

Sure enough, Ken Abbott was there too.

’So, this is a scumbag convention?’

I peered at Ken Abbott. He looked terrified, clearly still shaken from when Asher had set the dog on him. He didn’t want to be here, but he had no choice.

He got out of the car and just stood behind the door, looking as pathetic as a wilted eggplant.

"Silvia..." Ken Abbott glanced at me, then spoke again. "As long as you leave that psycho right now, I’ll... I’ll marry you."

I raised an eyebrow. "Didn’t you know that insanity is contagious? I’m a psycho now, too."

I smiled and looked at Stella beside me. "Stella, get him!"

Stella’s dopey expression instantly turned fierce as he lunged toward Ken Abbott.

Ken Abbott shrieked like a banshee, scrambling madly back into the car and slamming the door shut.

"Stella." I called out. Stella, who had been clawing at the car door, ran back and nuzzled against my leg.

My gaze turned cold as I looked at Jude Lynch, who was now starting to look scared. "Noelle Lynch’s grandmother has been arrested. Her whole family are human traffickers. You’re aware of this, right?"

The online opinion is overwhelmingly against Noelle Lynch right now. Otherwise, the Abbott family wouldn’t have been in such a hurry to break the engagement.

"Shouldn’t you be rushing back to comfort your precious adopted daughter instead of putting on this touching father-daughter act with me? You want me to get a divorce? Do you even have the right to ask?" I stroked Stella’s head, watching Jude Lynch coldly.

Jude Lynch was clearly frightened by my gaze and scurried behind Master Lancaster. "You little bitch! Our family raised you from the age of eighteen, and you’re a damn good actress! You acted so docile before, making us let our guard down around you..."

"Well, I’m done pretending. I’m not getting a divorce. What are you going to do about it?" I arched an eyebrow at Master Lancaster. "Surely you’re not thinking of using force, Master Lancaster? I’m sure this villa is surrounded by the media. A few independent bloggers were just here trying to get candid shots. There are cameras everywhere. You should calm down and think twice."

Master Lancaster’s expression was ugly. He snorted. "You’re digging your own grave. You overestimate yourself."

He thought he was giving me one last chance to live.

"Master Lancaster, from this moment on, I am Sebastian Lancaster’s guardian. If you want to do anything to him, you must have my consent," I threatened in a low voice.

But he just smiled. He was an old, crafty bastard, after all. I knew he had other tricks up his sleeve.

"The funeral is tomorrow. Don’t forget to bring him," Master Lancaster said before getting in his car and leaving.

Tomorrow would definitely be a trap set by Master Lancaster.

I watched them leave warily, then glanced back at the second-floor French windows.

I didn’t know when, but Asher was no longer there.

I turned around, and he was already standing behind me.

"You have to be extremely careful lately," I whispered, reminding Asher.

Asher hugged me from behind and grunted. "Mm."

"I brought the dog back for you guys. Try not to go out unless you have to. This place is crawling with cameras. The high-rises over there are full of reporters and influencers, all live-streaming and filming your house. The privacy sucks, but at least it means Master Lancaster won’t dare to do anything to you in broad daylight." Zeke Shaw pointed toward the high-rise buildings. "I rented an apartment there too. Yell if you need anything."

I was a little surprised. "Madeline Quinn also said she rented an apartment in the high-rises over there. You two aren’t neighbors, are you?"

Zeke Shaw froze for a moment, then coughed. "Neighbors...?"

They’re roommates.

I said, "Oh," and looked back at Asher. "The old master’s funeral is tomorrow. Officer Lowell, if you’re not busy, you should come with us."

Zeke Shaw is a police officer, after all. With him there, Master Lancaster will have to behave himself.

Asher, like a big puppy, glared at Stella who was trying to stick to me, and then nodded with a low grunt. "Okay."

’He really seems to listen to everything I say.’

"Cece... my wound still hurts. I can’t sleep." The moment Zeke Shaw left, Asher started to act cute.

I was in no mood to coddle him. "The funeral is tomorrow. Are you scared?"

’Master Lancaster definitely won’t let us off easy.’

"Cece will protect me." Asher seemed to have complete faith in me.

That made me feel like a fraud. He was putting me on a pedestal.

"Yes, I’ll protect you." I still nodded, leading him back to the room by the hand.

Asher smiled at me, then tilted his chin, motioning for Stella to go back to his dog bed.

Stella wagged his tail pitifully and reluctantly lay down in his bed.

"He’s so well-behaved. It’s like he can understand people," I said quietly. "When I was a kid... I think I had a dog, too. It looked a lot like Stella."

"It was Shaun..." Asher whispered, saying the name for me.

I froze, subconsciously looking up at Asher. "Right, I think his name was Shaun."

"Stella is Shaun’s grandson," Asher said softly.

I was shocked. "I don’t remember what happened to my dog..."

I couldn’t remember where Shaun went, or if he died of old age. That part of my memory was a complete blank.

Asher lowered his gaze, his grip on my hand tightening slightly. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but then said nothing.

"Did I... give Shaun to you?" ’How else would Shaun’s grandson end up with Asher?’

Asher was silent for a long time before smiling at me. "Shaun... died of old age."

I breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good..."

But for some reason, I could feel Asher trembling.
