After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 149: Asher’s Car Accident, Life or Death Unknown
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Asher’s Car Accident, Life or Death Unknown
"Master Lancaster, I am Sebastian Lancaster’s legal guardian. You have no right to make decisions for me!" I shielded Asher, watching the bodyguards warily.
"Who the hell do you think you are? What gives you the right to speak to our Master Lancaster? Master Lancaster calls the shots in the Lancaster Family now." A family member stepped forward to back Master Lancaster.
After all, Sebastian Lancaster had cut off their monthly allowances, which had incurred the wrath of the entire Lancaster family.
Asher shot the speaker a piercing glare, as if looking at a dead man.
"If you want a death on your hands, then go ahead and try," I said, stubbornly protecting Asher, refusing to move an inch.
Master Lancaster clearly couldn’t care less if I lived or died. He was intentionally provoking Asher today, testing to see if he was really insane.
They were sounding each other out.
And I was an obstacle preventing Master Lancaster from getting a read on Asher.
However, Master Lancaster must have investigated Silvia Lynch thoroughly—the daughter of the Lynn family, who had just cut ties with Jude Lynch. Jude must have already cozied up to Master Lancaster, which was why he was confident I couldn’t stir up any trouble.
’In reality, I really couldn’t make any waves right now...’
’My only hope is Assistant Foster. I hope he still has some power to fight back.’
But to my surprise, Assistant Foster just stood calmly to the side, showing no sign of intervening.
’Doesn’t the Lancaster Family have its own bodyguards?’
’I can’t let them take Asher, no matter what.’
"Master Lancaster, the people from the mental hospital are here," a bodyguard at the door announced.
Assistant Foster gave Asher a meaningful look.
Asher didn’t make a sound. He didn’t move.
"Master Lancaster, I won’t let you take him away." I clenched my fists, unsure of how I could possibly help Asher.
"Don’t be afraid. I’ll go with them," Asher whispered from behind me.
I froze for a moment, then turned back to look at Asher. "No!"
’I don’t want... to let him go to a place like that again.’
"I’ll be fine." Asher knew Master Lancaster was testing him today.
"You can’t go there..." My voice trembled. ’I don’t know why... but I’m so terrified of Asher going to a mental hospital.’
’Was it because I was so horrified when Julian Fletcher forced me to watch those videos of Asher from the mental hospital?’
"Cece... don’t be afraid," Asher said softly, shaking his head at me.
I reached out and grabbed his wrist.
Asher’s voice was very soft. "Don’t be afraid. I’ll be back soon."
Asher didn’t wait for them to grab him; he walked out on his own.
I clutched his hand tightly, not wanting him to go to the mental hospital.
’These are definitely Master Lancaster’s men. They won’t let him have an easy time in there.’
"Ma’am, you’re pregnant. You mustn’t get agitated." Assistant Foster blocked my way, shaking his head.
’I don’t know if they have some kind of plan.’
"Accelerate the timeline. Destroy the Lancaster Group," Asher whispered to Assistant Foster before getting in the car.
’I must have misheard. Did I just faintly hear him say he was going to destroy the Lancaster Group?’
’If you can’t have it, destroy it. That way, nobody gets it. Is that what he meant?’
"You’re tired, Ma’am. Let me take you back."
I watched, helpless, as the van from the mental hospital drove away with Asher. A sense of powerlessness enveloped me.
"Assistant Foster, is Asher really insane?" I asked in a low voice.
"When people want you to be insane, and you have no power to fight back, then you have no choice but to be insane." Owen Foster watched the departing vehicle. "But a butterfly always emerges from its cocoon eventually, wouldn’t you agree?"
I took a deep breath and clenched my fists.
"The Old Master still holds all the shares. Once he’s dead, they’ll go to Sebastian Lancaster. But now that Sebastian’s in a mental hospital, Master Lancaster... this is your chance!"
"That’s right, Master Lancaster. You’re the ranking elder in the Lancaster Family now. You have to take charge."
The crowd inside was still eagerly discussing the Lancaster family fortune and the Old Master’s inheritance.
’The Old Master is just lying in his room, unable to speak or move. He isn’t dead yet.’
’I guessed that now that Master Lancaster had gotten rid of Sebastian Lancaster, his next targets would be the Old Master and me.’
"As for the Old Master... is he safe?" I asked quietly.
Assistant Foster was silent for a moment before speaking. "Not everyone has a conscience like he does."
’In other words, Asher had spared the Old Master’s life, but Master Lancaster wouldn’t do the same.’
I didn’t say anything, knowing this was something I couldn’t stop.
’Once Master Lancaster gets rid of the Old Master, I’ll be next.’
...
On the way back to Asher’s place, I texted Madeline Quinn.
"Madeline, Master Lancaster forcibly sent Asher to a mental hospital. Is there any way I can get him out?"
Madeline Quinn swore, "Fuck!"
Madeline Quinn: Don’t panic. Tell me the address of the mental hospital. I’ll figure something out.
’There aren’t many people I can trust right now, but Madeline Quinn is absolutely one of them.’
I sent the location to Madeline Quinn.
But Madeline Quinn quickly replied that there was no admission record for a Sebastian Lancaster.
My heart tightened. I looked at Assistant Foster in fear. "Are you sure they took Asher to a mental hospital?"
Assistant Foster didn’t say anything.
"Stop the car!" I yelled. "Owen Foster, drive! Take me after that van!"
Owen Foster pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned to look at me. "Ma’am, the top priority right now is ensuring your safety and the safety of your baby. That is what’s most important."
"I need to make sure Asher is safe first! Did Master Lancaster even take him to the mental hospital or not!" My eye was twitching badly. I never should have let Asher get in that van.
Soon after, Owen Foster received a phone call.
I vaguely overheard that the mental hospital van had been in an accident on the winding mountain road. It was forced off a cliff by an overloaded truck, and everyone inside was dead.
Everything went black. I grabbed onto Owen Foster’s shirt, my whole body trembling. "Tell me... what happened."
"There was a car crash."
Owen Foster’s voice grew more and more distant.
My consciousness began to fade, and a ringing in my ears grew louder and louder.
"Cecilia..."
"Silvia?"
A chaotic jumble of voices buzzed in my ears.
Until I lost consciousness completely.
...
When I woke up again, I was in a bedroom at Asher’s villa. I bolted upright and scrambled out of the room.
’I needed to hear that Asher was safe.’
But the entire villa was eerily empty; I was all alone.
Even the mute butler in the courtyard was gone.
WOOF WOOF! Suddenly, Stella started barking furiously in the courtyard. A figure scrambled over the courtyard wall, followed by another, and then another...
’I knew. They were here to eliminate me.’
This is supposed to be a society governed by the rule of law. But lurking in the shadows cast by the Lancaster family’s immense wealth was a pack of vicious men who held no regard for the law.
Stella bared her teeth, watching the men warily. Catching them off guard, she lunged, and a scream echoed through the courtyard.
I fumbled frantically for my phone to call the police. Stella couldn’t hold them off for long by herself.
But the moment I reached for my phone, I saw the dark red stains of blood under my fingernails...
I froze, inspecting my hands carefully. ’I’m not injured. Where did this blood come from?’
With no time to think, I called the police, grabbed a club from the corner, and rushed downstairs.
WOOF WOOF! Several men pinned Stella down together. The large wolfdog was no match for them.
"Let her go!"
The man in the lead pulled out a knife and brought it down on Stella’s neck.
"No!" I screamed, stumbling a few steps before collapsing onto the lawn.
Suddenly, a man screamed in pain. Enduring her injuries, the large wolfdog bit one of them, struggled free, and scrambled toward me.
She was covered in blood, whimpering as she curled up in my arms.
My vision blurred with tears, and my fingers trembled. "Stella..."
