Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Asher Said to Give Me a Home

The world went black before Mrs. Fletcher’s eyes, and she nearly lost her footing.

I rushed forward to steady her, but she pushed me away.

Erin Whittaker helped Mrs. Fletcher over to a chair to sit down.

"Mrs. Fletcher, Julian only went because he was trying to get revenge for Cece," Erin Whittaker choked out, shifting all the blame onto Cecilia Caldwell.

’I’m already dead, and she still can’t resist dragging my name through the mud.’

"It was my fault..." Mrs. Fletcher’s face was ashen, her voice hoarse.

I started to step forward, but then I heard her speak again. "Back then... I never should have brought Cece home."

I froze on the spot. ’Mrs. Fletcher... she regrets bringing me home...’

’If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t have chosen to go back to the Fletcher family with her either.’

Even though my heart had gone numb after dying once, this still stung fiercely.

From behind, Asher suddenly reached out and pulled me into his arms.

His chin rested on the top of my head as he whispered, "Cece... I’ll give you a home."

’He was trying so hard to give Cece a home.’

’To rebuild the complete home she once had.’

I stiffened for a moment, then looked up at Asher.

’He said he would give me a home...’

"I’m the one who hurt Julian, and I hurt Cece, too," Mrs. Fletcher said, her voice trembling.

Erin Whittaker tearfully grasped Mrs. Fletcher’s hand. "Mrs. Fletcher, Julian will wake up. If... if something terrible really happens to him, I’ll follow him. I love him; I’d give my life for him."

’Erin Whittaker sure knows how to sing her own praises.’

Madeline Quinn rolled her eyes off to the side. "She’s so full of it."

Erin Whittaker shot Madeline Quinn an angry look. "Mrs. Fletcher, just because Silvia Lynch’s husband is mentally ill, he gets to dodge the law over and over again?"

I frowned at Erin Whittaker. ’She really knows how to push buttons.’ "You think that just because one murderer is caught, no one else can get to you? As far as I know, there isn’t just one. There are at least three. One is behind bars, but there are still a few more out there."

Erin Whittaker’s face instantly blanched, and she nervously shrank closer to Mrs. Fletcher.

Mrs. Fletcher’s mind was entirely on Julian Fletcher, and she clasped her hands, praying nervously.

She was praying that Julian Fletcher would pull through.

I reached up and patted Asher’s head. "Come on, let’s go sit for a bit."

Asher nodded, obediently following by my side.

"We’ll definitely catch all the murderers this time. Zeke Shaw found some things, and we also discovered some valuable clues on the body," Madeline Quinn whispered to me, telling me not to worry.

Now that they had Ash, they were sure to be able to root out the others.

I nodded, silently praying that Zeke Shaw could get the whereabouts of the other murderers from Ash.

Asher sat off to the side with his head bowed, his gaze fixed on the ground. He looked like he was thinking, constantly thinking.

Suddenly, Asher looked up at me and said urgently, "Zeke Shaw... The people behind this won’t be caught so easily. This time... their target is Zeke Shaw."

’Zeke Shaw is smart. He’s started to interfere with the mastermind’s interests, which means he’s getting closer to the truth.’

’Someone doesn’t want the truth to be revealed or the murderers to be discovered, so they have to eliminate the threat that is Zeke Shaw first.’

"The place, this time, is the police station." Asher’s voice suddenly grew taut. "Zeke Shaw... Call Zeke Shaw..."

’Something was about to happen. That lunatic was going to kill someone in the police station.’

"Kill someone in the police station? How is that possible..." I stared at Asher in shock. ’What are these people, human or demon?’

"I’ll call Zeke Shaw." Madeline Quinn seemed to have a lot of faith in Asher. She quickly stood up and started calling Zeke Shaw.

But Zeke Shaw didn’t pick up.

’He probably didn’t take his phone into the interrogation room with him.’

"It should be fine, right? That’s a police station, after all," Madeline Quinn muttered to herself.

Asher shook his head. "No. The location of the next victim’s death is the police station."

’What he calculated couldn’t be wrong.’ "Julian Fletcher wasn’t part of the game. He wasn’t supposed to get hurt. What happened to Julian Fletcher was an accident."

’Julian Fletcher was just an innocent bystander, then.’

’Ash must have hurt an innocent person in self-preservation.’

"Based on the clues from the scene where Erin Whittaker was attacked, the next crime scene is the police station." Asher kept repeating that last part, "the police station."

’This meant something was going to happen at the police station.’

’Zeke Shaw had found too many clues, and now he was a threat to the mastermind.’

’The person they wanted to eliminate had to be Zeke Shaw.’

I shot to my feet and looked at Madeline Quinn. "We need to go to the station."

Staring at Julian Fletcher wouldn’t do any good. The doctors had already said it was in the hands of fate.

But Zeke Shaw couldn’t be next.

"Let’s go," Madeline Quinn agreed with a nod.

Asher tugged on the corner of my clothes and asked softly, "Cece... Do you believe me?"

I fell silent. ’Better safe than sorry,’ I thought.

But Madeline Quinn nodded firmly. "I do! You’re a genius! If you hadn’t figured out where Erin Whittaker was taken, she’d be dead by now!"

Madeline Quinn said this deliberately loud, for Erin Whittaker’s benefit. "It’s just that some people don’t know how to be grateful. They bite the hand that feeds them! What a piece of work! Calling her an animal would be an insult to actual animals!"

Erin Whittaker clenched her fists in anger but didn’t dare get into a shouting match with Madeline Quinn. With her "pure and innocent" act, she could never win against Madeline.

Asher looked delighted, taking my hand and leading me out. "Cece, we’re going to save Zeke Shaw."

It was rare to see him so proactive. I smiled and quickened my pace to follow.

"We need to hurry." On the way to the station, Asher kept urging the driver to go faster.

He was afraid something would happen if they were too late.

By the time we rushed to the police station, we were stopped outside. Zeke Shaw was interrogating Ash alone, so naturally, we couldn’t go in. All we could do was wait.

Feeling uneasy, Madeline Quinn had a colleague watch the surveillance feed from outside, telling them to rush in immediately if they saw anything wrong.

"It’s impossible. That guy Ash is locked into the interrogation chair; there’s no way he could attack anyone," Zane reassured us. "Besides, Zeke is more than capable. You think he’d let some guy like that hurt him?"

I nodded and breathed a sigh of relief. ’Maybe Asher miscalculated this time?’

Madeline Quinn also breathed a sigh of relief. "Zeke Shaw is as tough as they come. That Ash guy... he can’t kill him. We’ve just been building this murderer up in our heads too much. He always drugs his victims first, so he’s not much of a fighter."

I also felt that we were all being way too paranoid.

Asher remained silent, shaking his head. "Something’s wrong..."

’Something is still wrong.’

’But what?’

"Get Zeke Shaw out of there! Now!" Asher suddenly screamed, losing his composure and demanding that Zeke leave the interrogation room.

A police officer blocked Asher, forbidding him from entering the interrogation area as per regulations.

Asher looked at me anxiously. "Cece... make him get Zeke Shaw out."

I nodded and looked at Madeline Quinn. "Madeline, go figure something out. Just get Zeke Shaw out here first so we can hear what Asher has to say."

Madeline Quinn nodded as well, though she gave Asher a puzzled look.

Even though none of us understood why Asher was suddenly freaking out, we... for some reason, were willing to trust him.

Madeline Quinn went to speak with Zane, who agreed to call Zeke Shaw out first.

But before they even had a chance to knock, a loud noise erupted from the interrogation room.

The interrogation room’s walls and door were soundproofed, so for any sound to escape, the commotion inside must have been immense.

Zane and the others charged in at once.

But it was too late...
