Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Touch My Person, You Will Die

Zeke Shaw looked at his colleagues with a complicated expression. "Sorry... it’s not our team’s investigation anymore, so... I don’t have a say."

’I understood. There must have been some kind of internal reshuffling because Zeke Shaw had never managed to find the real culprit.’

The case was never solved.

"Zeke Shaw... help me contact Asher. If I don’t go back, he’ll worry. I just want to say a few words to him, please." I looked at Zeke Shaw nervously.

Zeke Shaw was about to speak when Zane cut him off.

"Captain Lowell is also under investigation. You’d best not get him into trouble," Zane whispered, reminding me.

I stared at Zeke Shaw in astonishment. ’Why is he being investigated too?’

"My mentor... someone reported him," Zane muttered under his breath.

I took a deep breath. ’For all these things to be connected at this exact moment, it’s definitely not that simple.’

On the surface, it seemed like none of these events were related, but they were all perfectly intertwined.

’If I’m taken away for questioning, Asher will definitely panic. He’ll lose control, he’ll go crazy...’

’Once Asher loses control, he’ll be isolated and helpless. Master Lancaster will seize the opportunity to move against him. The online public opinion will be whipped up, and people will see what they want to see... When Julian Fletcher gets out, he’ll blame Asher for his mother being hit by a car and take his anger out on him too.’

"I have the right to contact my lawyer. You can’t just take me away like this." I wanted to contact Asher first, or at least calm him down.

"We wouldn’t have come for you if we didn’t have evidence. You’d better cooperate." The officer didn’t give me the chance.

’I guess I have to cooperate with the police investigation first. After all, I have no idea what they’ve actually found.’

’Because I’m also completely in the dark about Silvia Lynch’s secrets.’

A sense of helplessness washed over me. I rubbed the bridge of my nose in frustration. ’What on earth did this Silvia Lynch do?’

I don’t know when the car pulled up to the police station. All I know is that time passed quickly.

The police interrogated me through the night, asking why I had ordered Tiger to kill Erin Whittaker.

Tiger was the young man who had tried to assassinate Erin Whittaker.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about." I was genuinely clueless.

"The kid has already confessed. He said you were sponsoring them, that you ordered him to kill Erin Whittaker. He said if he did it, you would pay for his younger brother Kyle’s medical expenses." The officer’s voice was cold, his presence overwhelming.

I felt a flicker of panic. ’Did Tiger really say that?’

’Did Silvia Lynch really do it?’

"Impossible..." I shook my head. "I couldn’t have ordered Tiger to go to the hospital and harm Erin Whittaker."

’I’m sure of this much. Ever since I was reborn in Silvia Lynch’s body, I haven’t contacted Tiger once. So it definitely wasn’t me.’

"You’d better confess!" The officer slammed several photos on the table in front of me. "These are photos of you sponsoring them, bringing them food, and taking that kid to the doctor. Let’s see you try to talk your way out of this."

I tried to stay calm. "I was just sponsoring them. There’s nothing wrong with that, is there? What evidence do you have that I ordered him to do anything? I’m not going to plead guilty just because someone made an accusation."

"Silvia Lynch, I advise you to drop the act. Confess, cooperate with our investigation, and we can push for leniency."

"I did not order Tiger to kill Erin Whittaker. This is a misunderstanding."

The officer was about to say something else when another officer came in and whispered a few words in his ear.

The officer interrogating me gave me a profound look, then stood up and walked out.

I sat alone in the interrogation room, my head throbbing.

’If Asher is waiting for me and I don’t go back... will he go crazy?’

’He seems so insistent on waiting for me.’

’I wonder if Zeke Shaw told Asher.’

’If he didn’t, Asher will probably just keep waiting forever.’

I spent the entire night at the police station. When the interrogators couldn’t get any evidence out of me, they stopped asking questions. I slumped in the chair and dozed off. When I woke up, a female officer told me I could go home.

"No more questions?" I asked, confused.

The female officer ignored me.

I walked out of the police station and saw Zeke Shaw leaning against a car, apparently waiting for me.

"Tiger confessed. He said Peach told him to kill Erin Whittaker," Zeke Shaw said in a low voice.

I felt a strange sense of panic. "Who’s Peach?"

"Charlie’s sister," Zeke Shaw’s voice was grave.

I looked at Zeke Shaw in shock. ’Charlie’s sister?’

"Don’t you think... this is all too much of a coincidence?" I had just been taken in for questioning, and suddenly Tiger confesses? "I’ve asked around. Charlie was abandoned as a child and went to the orphanage with his sister. His sister is intellectually disabled. She has a mental disability. How could she possibly order Tiger to kill Erin Whittaker?"

"So, there must be someone behind Peach," Zeke Shaw nodded. "You’re not completely in the clear yet. Don’t go running around for a while."

I didn’t say anything, my gaze falling on Assistant Foster, who had already pulled over by the side of the road.

"Ma’am, let’s go home." Assistant Foster opened the car door for me.

I got in the car, looking back at Zeke Shaw with a complicated expression.

He just gave me a small wave.

"Assistant Foster... someone’s been watching me lately. My being investigated by the police... that was all orchestrated by someone behind the scenes, wasn’t it?" I asked.

"I’m not entirely sure, Ma’am." Assistant Foster had no intention of telling the truth.

He wouldn’t admit it, and there was nothing I could do.

’Someone is protecting me from the shadows.’

’Even when I was investigated by the police, I was released so quickly.’

’I don’t believe it was just my luck.’

"Asher, last night... he was waiting for me, but I didn’t come back. Did he..." I trailed off, worried.

"The Young Master... has been waiting for you." Assistant Foster started driving back, telling me that Asher had been waiting for me the whole time.

As the car entered the residential complex, I saw Asher from a long way off.

He was just standing at the entrance, his figure looking lonely and desolate.

"Did he... wait for me at the gate all night?" I asked quietly.

Assistant Foster nodded. "We couldn’t persuade him otherwise."

I got out of the car. Asher’s eyes were red-rimmed; it was obvious he hadn’t slept a wink all night, just standing here waiting.

"Cece..." Seeing me get out of the car, he rushed forward and pulled me into his arms.

Though his voice was as hoarse and choked as ever, the arms holding me were incredibly strong.

He just held me like that, as if he was afraid I would never come back.

He held the back of my head with one hand, hugging me tightly.

"I’m okay..." I raised my hand and patted his back soothingly.

"No one... will ever take you away from me again." His voice was low, and the atmosphere around him sent a shiver down my spine.

"Asher... Tiger said Charlie’s sister ordered him to kill someone. But isn’t Charlie’s sister... intellectually disabled?" I asked in a small voice.

’I can’t shake this feeling of unease.’

"Yes, she has an intellectual disability," Asher nodded.

"If the person behind this really is Charlie, he would never drag his own sister into this, right...?" ’That’s why I can’t figure this out.’

’The two people with the strongest motives are Asher and Charlie. Charlie is dead... but if he faked his death, he definitely wouldn’t implicate his own sister.’

’Could it really be like Zeke Shaw said? Could the mastermind be Asher?’

Asher looked at me with a profound gaze and only spoke after a long moment. "Cece, are you hungry? Let’s go home and eat."

He took my hand and led me home.

I watched his back, my thoughts in a tangled mess.

"Sebastian Lancaster!"

Behind us, a car screeched to a halt. Brandon Lancaster got out and glared at Asher. "My dad was arrested by the police! Was this your doing?!"

Asher looked completely bewildered and hid behind me. "Cece... I don’t know what he’s talking about."

"As far as I know, Master Lancaster is suspected of multiple illegal and criminal activities, and the evidence is conclusive. The Master is getting on in years. I suggest you go home and figure out a solution, sir, rather than coming here to demand an explanation," Assistant Foster said gravely.

Brandon Lancaster glared furiously at Assistant Foster and Asher. "It was you!"

"Cece... he’s so scary." Asher’s eyes were dark as he stared at Brandon Lancaster, but he remained hidden behind me.

"Mr. Lancaster, why do you think Asher did it?" I asked with a frown.

"Hmph. The moment you were taken to the station, my dad ran into trouble. Who else could it be but him?" Brandon Lancaster pointed angrily at Asher. "I finally see it now! He’s a demonic wolf in sheep’s clothing!"

"My being taken to the station... that was your doing?" I watched Brandon Lancaster warily.

Brandon Lancaster just snorted and didn’t answer.

’Clearly, he was inextricably linked to this whole chain of events.’

Asher straightened up, pulling me into his arms protectively. He stared coldly at Brandon Lancaster. "Touch my woman, and you will die."
