After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 102: Asher Set a Dog on Julian Fletcher at Midnight?
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Asher Set a Dog on Julian Fletcher at Midnight?
My heart clenched. A sudden panic seized me. ’Will he leave while I’m asleep?’
’Does that mean he’s... involved in the serial killer case?’
I shot out of bed, threw on my clothes, and went to the front desk. "Hi, did you happen to see when my husband left the hotel?"
The young woman at the desk shook her head. "Sorry, there were too many people..."
"He’s mixed-race, very handsome," I added.
The young woman’s mouth fell open. "Oh, oh! That handsome guy! He must have..."
She immediately pulled out her phone and said in a hushed tone, "The guy was so handsome, I secretly took a picture and posted it to my Moments."
"He left around twelve o’clock," the young woman said with certainty.
The time she’d posted it to her Moments was 12:03 AM.
I started to panic. He left at twelve.
That meant he had left not long after I fell asleep.
It was now after three in the morning. More than three hours... He had plenty of time to commit the crime.
I hurried out of the hotel, my emotions a tangled mess. I looked left and right, suddenly feeling lost.
’If Asher is really involved in the murders, what am I going to do?’
I ran a few steps aimlessly before my phone rang.
It was Zeke Shaw.
My heart pounded even more frantically. For a moment, I didn’t know if I was more afraid that the police had caught Asher at a crime scene or that another murder had occurred.
"Hello?" I composed myself and answered the phone.
"Get down to the Flavis Road Police Station," Zeke Shaw said, sounding utterly exasperated.
"The police station?" I froze.
"You’re his guardian, so why aren’t you watching him? You let him run out in the middle of the night and beat someone up?" Zeke Shaw asked, keeping his voice low.
If the officers there hadn’t known him, Asher would have definitely been detained tonight.
"Beat someone up?" I hailed a cab, confused.
"He beat up Julian Fletcher, smashed his car, and to top it all off, he somehow rounded up a dozen stray dogs and had them bite Julian Fletcher’s bodyguards."
Zeke Shaw was practically grinding his teeth. "Do you have any idea that if he were a normal person, this would be enough to get him prison time?"
’?’ My mind was just full of question marks.
’Asher ran out in the middle of the night to beat up Julian Fletcher? And smashed his car? And set dogs on people?’ This was a lot to process. I needed a moment.
’Did this kid suddenly insist I stay at a hotel yesterday just so he could go beat up Julian Fletcher?’
"And it wasn’t just one person bitten. From what Asher said, those guys were staking out the area near the Lancaster Family’s house, probably watching you or planning to harm you. Those guys ran off, so we can tentatively call that self-defense." Zeke Shaw’s voice was filled with resignation. "But Julian Fletcher and his driver were just waiting for you at the Lancaster Family gate. They were innocent bystanders who got caught in the crossfire."
"..." I was silent.
’So he didn’t run off in the middle of the night to kill someone. He went home to beat someone up.’
No wonder he kept mentioning that Julian Fletcher had pushed him.
’Was he holding a grudge?’
I put a hand to my forehead and said sheepishly, "I’m on my way. Please keep an eye on him for me..."
「At the police station entrance.」
As his guardian, I would have to pay for the damage to Julian Fletcher’s car and for his bodyguards’ medical bills.
The Lancaster Family could afford it, so I wasn’t worried about that.
What I was worried about was that this time, Asher had well and truly pissed off Julian Fletcher.
"Silvia Lynch, you’ve got some nerve." Julian Fletcher stood outside, practically pointing at me through gritted teeth. "Keep your rabid dog on a leash."
He was warning me, calling Asher a rabid dog.
"Instead of staying at the hospital with Erin Whittaker in the middle of the night, you come running to our doorstep to bark. What kind of dog are you?" I glared at Julian Fletcher, then glanced at Asher, who was hiding behind the door, not daring to face me.
Julian Fletcher took a step forward, looking down at me.
There was a cut on the corner of his mouth and blood on his forehead. Asher had definitely done it.
"Ha... It was a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! We reviewed the security footage. Someone was attacking people near the house, which provoked this young man. In his agitated state, he ended up hitting Mr. Fletcher, who was waiting at the gate." An officer chuckled, trying to mediate. "Both sides are at fault, both sides."
Julian Fletcher gritted his teeth. "So I’m at fault for just standing at the gate?"
"What were you doing staking out someone’s house in the middle of the night? You happened to be there right when an attacker showed up. Any normal person would have mistaken you for one of the bad guys." The officer quickly winked at Julian Fletcher, walked over, and tried to reason with him in a low voice. "Come on, you’re a normal person. Why are you getting worked up over someone who’s mentally ill?"
Julian Fletcher snorted coldly.
The officer looked at me. "However, you still have to pay for the damages."
I looked at Julian Fletcher’s face. It was deathly pale under the streetlight.
He was terrified of dogs, and Asher had brought a dozen of them back with him...
There was no way Julian Fletcher wasn’t scared.
His legs were probably jelly right now.
"He did it on purpose," Julian Fletcher said, looking at me again. "He’s a lunatic who could snap at any moment. Let’s see how long you can last by his side. Aren’t you afraid he’ll strangle you in your sleep one night?"
Julian Fletcher glanced at the time. This whole mess had dragged on until three in the morning...
"I advise you to come to the Fletcher Group tomorrow and explain this to me in person." Julian Fletcher’s real intention was to force me to meet him alone.
"If you don’t, I’ll have my lawyer file for a court order to have him committed back to the psychiatric hospital," Julian Fletcher added.
I frowned, glaring angrily at him.
’He’ll never stop being a piece of shit.’
His objective achieved, Julian Fletcher got in his car and left.
I didn’t know why he was so insistent on meeting me alone, but it definitely wasn’t for anything good.
’Instead of staying at the hospital with his "kind-hearted" one true love, he comes to the Lancaster Family’s house and waits for me until the early morning?’
’Lunatic.’
’If you ask me, Julian Fletcher is the real lunatic.’
"Get out here!" Now that Julian Fletcher was gone, I looked at Asher, still hiding behind the door, and my anger flared.
Asher hung his head, looking wronged, and shuffled out step by step.
"Why weren’t you sleeping? What were you doing running back here in the middle of the night?" I yelled at him, my patience worn thin.
"There were bad people..." Asher said quietly.
He had gone back to drive away Master Lancaster’s men. He was afraid they would hurt her.
Zeke Shaw leaned against his car door, watching me scold Asher.
He chuckled. "You know, I’ve noticed this kid only listens when you scold him. If anyone else says a word, he looks like he’s ready to kill them."
I put my hand to my forehead. "Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to go back alone in the middle of the night?"
Asher glanced at the stray dogs still lingering by the trash can across the street. "I wasn’t alone..."
He was really getting on my nerves. "Are they people?"
"Sometimes, people are worse than them," Asher said, his voice low. For a split second, his aura was so cold it was stunning.
I thought I must have imagined it. When I looked again, he had already switched back to his pitiful expression. "Cece... I was wrong."
"What were you wrong about?"
"I don’t know..."
’He’s going to be the death of me.’ "Why did you hit Julian Fletcher?"
"He deserved it," Asher said matter-of-factly.
"Ahem. Alright, alright, let’s not do this out here," Zeke Shaw said, opening the car door. "Get in. I’ll take you home."
I dragged Asher into Zeke Shaw’s car, my hands trembling with anger.
But on second thought, at least Asher had gone straight home from the hotel. He hadn’t gone out to kill someone...
’That’s good. That’s good.’
BUZZ. Zeke Shaw’s phone went off. It was Zane, who was at the hospital keeping an eye on Erin Whittaker. "Lowell, someone came to the hospital to try and kill Erin Whittaker! We caught them!"
