After Beating the Game, I Became the Villain BOSS
Chapter 726: Time Has Changed (Part 5)
“No matter what social form it takes, crime rates can only differ in levels. Surely there are criminals, or those who don’t abide by the rules, in this era as well, right? How does the mastermind handle these matters?”
The three of them looked at each other, and Future suddenly proposed, “How about I do something for the boss?”
Chu Nanyi quickly waved his hands, “No, no, no, Chief Engineer, your ‘citizen credit score’ is too valuable. Wasting your time would be a loss for all of humanity. Let me handle this instead.”
Chu Nanyi led a few people to a deserted alley corner and cleared his throat, “Ahem, Captain, watch closely. I’ll only perform this once.”
“He~tui!” He spit on the ground.
As soon as the spit hit the ground, a visual holographic panel appeared in front of Chu Nanyi, displaying several lines of text:
“Dear Mr. Chu Nanyi, your act of spitting on the ground has violated the ‘City Sanitation Management Regulations’, and 1 point has been deducted from your citizen credit score accordingly.”
“Your current citizen credit score is: 99 points, in the first tier.”
“First-tier credit scores can be restored by participating in community cleaning and other public service labor. Please take this as a warning, and have a pleasant life.”
Looking at the stunned Su Mo, Chu Nanyi explained, “The current society’s laws and regulations aren’t much different from the past, but the enforcement has a new system.”
“The ‘citizen credit score’ is a brand new behavioral evaluation standard that involves all aspects of life. The full score is 100 points, and violating laws and regulations will result in corresponding deductions.”
“A lower credit score affects the citizen’s material living standards, and if the score is too low, severe penalties like flogging and forced detention are imposed.”
Su Mo glanced around but didn’t see any surveillance equipment like cameras.
He squatted down and touched the ground, which was made of ordinary stone material and didn’t seem to have any sensors.
He asked, puzzled, “How did the mastermind know you spit just now?”
Chu Nanyi patted Future’s shoulder, “Explain the technicalities, would you?”
Future continued the topic, “It’s a global surveillance unit named ‘Celestial Eye’, using reconnaissance components similar to those of the Apocalypse level-1 mechanical eye, spread across near-Earth orbit and operating 24/7, unaffected by physical obstacles and electromagnetic interference.”
Su Mo muttered, “So everyone is under the mastermind’s surveillance all the time? Doesn’t that mean there’s no personal privacy?”
Future laughed, “It’s not that exaggerated. The ‘Celestial Eye’ only applies to public areas and individuals with lower ‘citizen credit scores’. Normal citizens aren’t monitored in private spaces.”
“It’s just like the old public cameras. Why would normal people fear public cameras? Only those with a guilty conscience, those wanting to stir up trouble, would be afraid.”
This remark reminded Su Mo, and he asked, “Speaking of stirring up trouble… what measures are in place for preventing vicious crimes now? Like randomly killing people on the streets, which used to be almost unsolvable. Does the mastermind have a solution?”
Chu Nanyi whistled and said with interest, “Isn’t it a coincidence, just last week there was such an incident in New Moon City, and the video is still online. I’ll show it to you.”
Chu Nanyi took out his phone and played the video.
The video was at a kindergarten, and from the shooting angle, it looked like some parent was filming the kids leaving school.
Everything was good at first; the children found their parents one by one, held hands, and laughter was everywhere. It was a very warm scene.
Later, a passerby, possibly out of personal grudge or revenge against society, suddenly pulled out a fruit knife from his pocket and attempted to stab a child nearby. His attack was so sudden that Su Mo barely had time to react.
Yet, just as he made the aggressive motion of drawing the knife, a blazing red light descended from the sky, like celestial fire guiding divine punishment, precisely enveloping the assailant, turning him to ashes in an instant.
Seeing this, Su Mo instinctively raised his head to look at the sky and murmured, “Spear of Judgment…”
Future said, “Yes, the mastermind constantly observes the world through the ‘Celestial Eye’.”
“In cases of such vicious crimes, especially those sudden and life-threatening, if the Worker Bee constructs, serving as enforcers, can’t get to the scene in time, the ‘Spear of Judgment’ serves as the ultimate disposal for the criminals.”
“The ‘Spear of Judgment’ can target any corner of the world, strike at light speed, and its power can penetrate any cover or armor.”
“Since the New Era, there have been 47 cases of vicious assaults driven by jealousy, hatred, or personal mental issues, and without exception, the perpetrators were turned to ashes the moment they acted.”
The ultimate weapon once used to destroy worlds still hangs high above humanity.
The mastermind removed the heavy shackles for the human race, allowing them to freely unleash their bright nature.
But at the same time, the Spear of Judgment is also a Sword of Damocles, forever suppressing the darkest side of humanity’s heart.
At that moment, Su Mo’s gaze was completely at ease. He looked past his companions, toward the bustling and brilliant city, as if he was also watching everything in the world.
“Quite a perfect world indeed.”
