After Beating the Game, I Became the Villain BOSS
Chapter 689 - 425: War’s End
After the headquarters of the three major corporations were captured, the Capital Group Army, which was engaged in fierce battles with the constructs on various city fronts, finally couldn’t hold on.
In the face of the relentless advance of the construct clusters, the defense positions were knocked out one by one, with smoke enveloping every corner of the city.
Troops were repeatedly defeated, and before they could reorganize their defense, were struck down again by the wave-like Worker Bee constructs, relentlessly driven back.
Ultimately, all districts of the capital fell, and the hundreds of thousands of remnants retreating from every direction were crushed against the last bastion—the Upper Court Council Headquarters.
This is the World Government’s highest administrative institution, the center of power operation, and the heart of humanity’s sole legitimate regime at the moment.
If the Upper Court Council Headquarters falls, it means the complete demise of the World Government, which has led the rebuilding of civilization for 156 years after the Dawn Year.
The exterior of the Upper Court Council Headquarters is fortified with very strong defense positions, theoretically making it very difficult to attack.
However, every soldier in the Group Army knows that they are merely putting up a last-ditch resistance.
The entire capital has fallen, and the headquarters of the three major corporations have been breached. The various divisions of the Group Army have lost a lot of heavy weaponry and armored units in retreat, and the logistics line has been completely cut.
The remnants near the Upper Court Council Headquarters may seem like hundreds of thousands, but they are actually a lone army surrounded to death in the center.
No supplies, no reinforcements, some even without guns, if it really comes to it, they might have to pick up bricks to hit or use their teeth to bite.
From high above, the surrounding areas are filled with black waves formed by the construct clusters, forming a wall of death advancing continuously towards the Upper Court Council Headquarters.
Is there anyone in this world who sacrifices for others, whose will won’t collapse no matter what?
Of course there are.
But they’re only a few.
Even the elite setup of the Capital Group Army, the soldiers are not emotionless war machines; each has their own life and family.
Some soldiers gazed at the fallen smoky districts in the distance, with tears in their eyes choked, "What about our families..."
These words ignited everyone’s yearning for family; some closed their eyes and prayed tremblingly for their family in the fallen zone, while others sat hugging their heads weeping quietly.
In this situation, even the gendarmes from the Enforcement Brigade could hardly perform their duties, for their families were also trapped in the city with their fates unknown, all now pursing their lips, not uttering a word.
"Buzz—buzz—" At this moment, a sharp alarm tore through the sky, indicating that the enemy had already entered the designated firing zone.
Looking at the approaching construct clusters not far away, the soldiers of the Capital Group Army clenched their guns, military knives, engineer shovels, and even stones and sticks picked up from the ground with trembling hands, ready to make one last stand.
But the expected battle did not break out immediately; the constructs did not launch the extremely cold-blooded death charge as before but stopped around the edges of the firing zone.
Then, an extremely shocking scene unfolded.
These Worker Bee constructs have no independent thought; all actions are controlled by a higher existence.
And at this moment, the Queen Bee controlled each and every unit to make the same action.
All constructs spoke in unison, their words intertwined at the exact same frequency, echoing through the sky like thunder.
"All are compatriots, disarm and you will not be killed!"
Their overwhelming shout was so powerful that it caused the surrounding fortifications to tremble slightly, and the entire air over the Capital City resonated with the echo of these eight words.
The Group Army soldiers, astounded, looked at each other not knowing what was happening, unable to recover for a long time.
Soon, another astonishing scene played out.
The construct swarm orderly lined up, making way for passable corridors.
Gradually, many figures emerged from between the construct arrays. Judging by their attire, they were undoubtedly Capital civilians, adults supporting elders, children clinging to their parents, all carefully walking out.
These civilians were well protected, showing hardly any injuries, merely a bit dusty with dirty clothes.
The constructs didn’t harm anyone among them, even offering help to solitary elderly without caregivers, as nearby Worker Bees moved to assist them walking.
If the previous "all are compatriots, disarm and you will not be killed" seemed merely a persuasive surrender tactic to the soldiers,
then as countless civilians from the fallen areas appeared here unharmed, the soldiers’ final line of defense in their hearts was finally shattered.
The dawn sunlight bathed the war-torn battlefield, diluting the air filled with smoke and death. Soldiers peeked out from behind the fortifications, their eyes full of confusion.
Soon, one soldier spotted his family in the crowd; he dropped his weapon and dashed from the cover, rushing forward to tightly embrace his mother.
"Mom!" His voice was trembling, tears streaming as he gazed at his mother, as if confirming whether this was a dream.
The mother’s face was covered in tears, placing a hand on her son’s cheek, gasping, "You’re alive! It’s wonderful, you’re alive!"
In his mother’s embrace, the soldier felt the warmth and security long lost, liberating all suffering and despair at that moment, weeping his heart out holding her tightly.
Gradually, the noise of voices rose from all directions, soldiers successively dropped their weapons and ran out from the fortifications, with the civilians running towards them.
