Chapter 1529: Chapter 48: Russia’s Plan for a Ceasefire (3)
Comrade Steel, Joseph, has been very busy recently. On one hand, the national leader Vladimir’s health is deteriorating rapidly, and it’s evident that it’s hard for him to make it through this winter, so Joseph, for the stability of the country, must personally take over the nation’s political affairs.
Due to Vladimir’s health reasons, it is clear that Joseph cannot leave Moscow, the political center of the nation, at this time to prevent the national government from falling into the hands of those with ulterior motives.
As a competent politician and a steadfast soldier of the Labor Party, Joseph is evidently wary of many people. After all, ever since the Russian Labor Party took power, quite a few opportunists have indeed infiltrated internally.
It should be known that the Russian Labor Party used to have only tens of thousands of members in Russia, and even then it was a mixed bag. Take Joseph himself, for instance; he does not consider his past experiences to be very "perfect" since he has done things like robbing banks.
Of course, his purpose was to fund the Labor Party, but what about others? Who can guarantee that within the Labor Party, everyone really is a saint of high moral caliber?
The truly self-disciplined members of the Labor Party, to a certain extent, pursue perfection excessively, which in turn makes them easy to fall into extremes, intolerant of any imperfection.
Joseph, to a large extent, is someone who cannot tolerate imperfection. After entering Moscow, within the Russian Labor Party, a portion of people quickly became corrupt, aligning themselves with the old bureaucrats of the Tsarist Russia era, which is something Joseph evidently cannot accept.
However, the Russian Labor Party has no choice but to compromise. After all, if they truly insisted on choosing perfect individuals to govern the country, the Russian Labor Party could not possibly find so many "saints." Human nature has destined "saints" to always be the exception; everyone has flaws.
Therefore, Joseph’s only choice is to act as the "dictator", to concentrate power, and to be ready to strike against reactionary forces at any time, or even to purge them. Since corruption and reactionary elements cannot be eradicated, the only option is to pick up the butcher’s knife.
Joseph absolutely would not allow the fruits of victory to be stolen by opportunists and enemies.
So, from Joseph’s perspective, Russia is not as strong as he imagined; rather, it is caught in "internal and external troubles."
Aside from having significant criticisms about the internal issues of the Russian Labor Party, external military setbacks, the comprehensive blockade by imperialism on Russia, etc., all make him feel distressed.
Now, he has to face the problem of how to resolve the front-line war. Without a doubt, the defeat of the Russian army makes Russia’s situation even more difficult. Moreover, continuing the war is incredibly damaging to Russia’s already fragile economy, and it’s important to note that Russia is still recovering from the traumas of war.
After contemplating for a long time, Joseph still decides to negotiate with Germany. Given the current internal situation in Russia, due to Vladimir’s health issues, the country will be entering a period of turmoil. Therefore, if Joseph wants to control Russia, he must get through this period of upheaval. At this point, continuing the war is evidently unfavorable for his takeover of Russia.
Secondly, the combat effectiveness of the Russian army is truly worrying. Without strong industrial support, the Russian military is almost indistinguishable from that of the Tsarist Russia era. Therefore, Joseph believes that if powerful industries cannot be developed, it would be impossible for Russia to export its ideology.
Lastly, Russia needs to recuperate, but it also faces the encirclement and blockades of the International Community, so continuing the war is not conducive to public support for the Russian Labor Party. Moreover, currently, in the war, the Labor Party can’t achieve a significant breakthrough, and there is a possibility of being counterattacked by imperialism.
It should be noted that since Russia initiated the war until now, neither Germany nor Austria-Hungary has truly exerted their full strength, not to mention other imperialist countries. If Russia stubbornly continues, it will invariably invite more intervention from imperialist countries.
Therefore, for a variety of reasons, Joseph internally plans to end this war. Furthermore, Russia has already captured most of Ukraine and the Baltic region, and all of Belarus. In essence, Russia has already achieved its initial strategic objectives.
As for the remaining areas, such as Poland and Western Ukrainian peasants who are determined to resist against Russia alongside the reactionary forces, they are indeed not worth the Russians’ effort to "liberate."
