Adventures of the last Wild Dragon
Chapter 387: Super Guardian
The once picturesque clearing now resembled a war zone.
The ground was cratered from various explosions and erupting roots, several trees all around had been shattered and felled. Then their was the remains of over 40 lesser guardian bodies, now resembling a pile of garden refuse with sickly green sap still oozing from it.
From the original number of 40+ guardians and a singular beast, now it was only that same beast, Violet and a singular massive guardian. Their was a enlightened somewhere yet Violet hadn’t seen him since he was sent flying into and then through a tree by the now enlarged guardian.
She assumed he was either dead or unconscious, would have to find out later, if she managed to win anyhoo.
For now though she had no time to truly think about anything other than the fight she was currently engaged in.
She shot across the clearing, her arms crossed before her and encased with dense void threads to bolster her defenses. She had just managed to block a powerful paw swipe from the guardian, it had seemingly effortlessly shattered the several void shields she had summoned and only her training with pre defined void thread constructions enabled her to defend with minimal injury.
At the same time above her head a massive magic circle was rapidly forming, its runes being carved into reality itself and aided with directed manipulation of her domain.
Violet’s mind was being pushed to its limits, a constant barrage of basic bolts and spears was being fired. She was also utilising her rune skill to form runes all across the battlefield and also charging up her void cannon ability.
This was on top of having to pay close attention to the guardians attacks and responding appropriately to defend or dodge its numerous and powerful attacks.
Violet’s only true saving grace in the fight was that the creature seemed to prefer fighting with its body. If it were to rely on its powerful magics she was unsure if she would be able to keep up.
As her void cannon neared completion she pumped a large dose of mana into the still forming circle, causing the runes that made up the skill to shift and condense as she overcharged the ability and concentrated its force.
The guardian summoned a cover of shifting leaves, its figure being momentarily obscured by the rainbow of leaves.
Violet’s senses sharpened as she spun around, twin spears forming in her hands as she thrust them in front of her. Just in time to divert the powerful claw swipe that was aimed at taking her head.
Still the impact sent her skidding backwards once again, yet the creature was forced to a halt upon impact. A moment that Violet did not let go to waste.
Her runic circle of void cannon flashed a brilliant purple, the world once again being stripped of all colour except for the area around the guardian.
Then a thin beam of concentrated void shot out, its width was about as thick as Violet’s forearm, yet held the power of a fully overcharged void cannon.
It lanced towards the guardian, it responded near instantly by summoning a barrier of vines from the nearby branches above. Yet their cover was limited as the beam of powerful void energies easily cut through the hasty defence.
Then when the beam landed she titled the runic circle, dragging the beam across the creatures body.
A furrow was simply erased from the creatures body, it reached nearly a foot deep in some part where the beam lingered the longest. Viscuous sap fountained out of the wound and Violet grinned when she heard the distinctive sound of a shattering core.
She nearly though that the battle was over, yet held herself back as she noticed that the creature did not fall to pieces. It would seem like the additional cores it had absorbed remained within the body of the guardian, she just hoped that by slowly destroying them the creature would slowly reduce its power.
Unfortunately for Violet her attack only seemed to enrage the creature, its emerald orbs flashing with malice for the briefest of moments before they returned to its almost ambivalent normality.
However, Violet’s keen senses could not be deceived so easily, she had felt that brief glimps of the nature of the guardians and she no longer desired to drag the fight out.
As such she activated her most potent skill, Limit Break.
Bolts of void lightning coursed along her scales, her muscles tightened, her mind sharpened and her mana surged in potency as her boosting skill fully activated.
She knew that she had effectively put a timer in the battle, either she defeated the guardian before the fight ended or she risked dying to it were the skill to deactivate before the fight ended and she found herself left weakened whilst facing a formidable foe.
The guardian shot forwards once again, thick roots pierced the ground to either side of Violet at the same time.
With a almost casual flick of her wrist she sliced down at the approaching roots with the twin void spears she still held in her hands. The void lightning coursing down her arms and along the length of the spear.
The roots were effortlessly sliced apart, she then released the twin spears as she completed the arc with them, the twin spears now imbued with her boosting ability flew through the air to curve back around to race towards the guardian.
As the guardian closed in time seemed to slow down for Violet, her ever sense was running beyond what she could truly comprehend.
Nearly 50 runes flashed into existence all at once as Violet repaired for the incoming attack.
This runic formation was a result of her training with runes, her earlier use of the void lightning being a byproduct of developing this particular array.
She call it’s the Void Elemental Array.
During her studies of both the void and runes she had made a simple yet profound realisation.
With void being the reverse of reality, and within reality all kinds of elements existed, would it not make sense for their true opposite to then exist within the void itself?
Well Violet certainly though that was such a possibility, as such was it not natural for her to attempt to utilise the void of elements in her attacks?
As the 50 runes flashed the guardian seemed to hesitate for a brief moment, yet chose to ignore that runes in favour of closing in on the dragon that had formed the runes in question.
All around the clearing void construct flaired to life.
Void lightning crackled with booming thunder claps, void fire burned with such a chill that all heat nearby was erased, conversely void ice formed that shimmered with solidified heat in etherial shimmering crystals.
A half dozen other reversed elements blossomed into existence, each one being boosted in potency by the limit break that Violet had enabled.
With a grin Violet unleashed her singular most potent attack she had ever formed.
