Kalvin was having a rough day. First off he had been whisked away to this champion beast protocol trial thingy, who would have thought that a bloody rabbit of all things would have been a champion beast.

It wasn’t even a particularly strong rabbit, it was only tier 2, he only hunted it as a light snack on a whim. Yet here he was almost half a year later being dragged into this gosh darn death trial.

Still he supposed he shouldn’t complain too much, he had already gained several levels since arriving here. Plus the landscapes were very interesting, great for advancing his skills.

Still he did want to complain, but that was more out of habit than any actual gripes he had with the place.

That would have remained true had he not run into another enlightened, for this was unfortunately a human, not just a regular human, no that would have been too good for ol Kalvin.

No Kalvin had to run into one of those human supremacy nut jobs from the human kingdom far to the east. Who even allowed those weirdos to join this trial?

Saddly he didn’t have time to ponder such useless thoughts in his current situation as he desperately dodged away from a sharp arc of water that extended from the humans blade.

He spun away and put some more distance between them before he drew his bow and fired an arrow. Kalvin made sure to pump plenty of his fire mana into the arrow, ensuring that when it launched forwards it left a trail of fire in its wake.

The human was too slow to respond and was struck straight in the chest, a loud boom ringing out and sending the man flying away to slam into the far wall with a meaty slap.

Kalvin grinned at that glad that his attack had landed however, he knew it would not be a fatal blow given the man’s powerful armour that he wore.

Still it should have knocked the wind out of him and given Kalvin a chance to exploit his new weakness.

Yet just as he was about to draw his bow once again he heard the sound of footsteps, no not just footsteps, the sound of something massive closing in and it was closing in fast.

The distinctive sound of razor sharp claws scraping against stone were clear to hear, the booming echo of heavy feet shaking the very ground itself.

Even the human, in all his stupidity seemed to realise that something was wrong as he had not launched into another attack, simply standing still and staring warily in the direction of the approaching noise.

Then something rounded the corner. Kalvin looked up and felt his heart shudder as an overwhelming force seemed to press down on him.

He tried to take in a breath yet found that no air would enter his body. The world around him lost all colour, everything was rendered into nothing except for the two vibrant violet orbs that seemed to gaze into his very soul from far up in the darkness.

He took a shaky step backwards as his mind finally seemed to process two important facts about what he could see. First was that the being before him was a genuine sovereign, a being so far above him that it wasn’t even funny.

Secondly and perhaps even more shocking was the species of the beast before him. For standing in front of Kalvin was a true dragon, the ruler of the skies and an apex predator that was currently staring at him with excitement glimmering in its horrifyingly vibrant eyes.

That was the last thing Kalvin registered before his mind gave up and he collapsed to the ground as unconsciousness took him.

Violet stared at the two enlightened in frustration. She just wanted some kind of fight to make her day more exciting and split up the utter boredom that had plagued her these past few hours.

Then the two people had to go and faint on her! "How rude." She muttered, completely ignoring the fact that she had quite literally suffocated them with her overbearing domain. The simple fact that they stayed conscious as long as they did would be enought to be considered impressive to most regular tier 4 people.

Still Violet was not interested in waiting around for them to wake back up naturally, so after a quick glance at the two of them she chose to wake up at least one of them. She opted for the Jackelkin man, he wore fine leather armour and had a bow clasped in his hand.

The other was a human and was wearing the uniform of the Kingdom of Eldor, Violet had no intention of talking to one of them anytime soon given her last few encounters with Eldor.

So Violet gently poked the beastkin with one of her massive claws, not even bithinger to shrink her size down to something more reasonable for talking with a humanoid.

At first nothing happened, yet when she sent a weak pulse of her presence directly at the man he suddenly shot awake and sat up. His eyes darting around wildly.

Quickly he spotted the unconscious human laying a short distance away and his hand tightened on his bow, then he frowned in apparent confusion.

Then it seemed like a dawning realisation set in as he slowly turned his head and peered upwards to meet Violet’s eyes. A shiver ran through his body as his visable skin turned pale as a ghost.

Violet decided to speak up first, already having an idea for what she could use the man for.

"Hey are you good at traversing through this maze? Any skills for navigating or tracking?"

Her question seemed to surprise the man and he seemingly instinctively responded. "Y-yes, I have a couple of skills for that."

Violet nodded her massive head then spoke again. "The human, is he worth keeping alive? He’s from Eldor right?"

That seemed to snap the man out of his daze and his gaze turned hard as he glanced back at the unconscious man. "No he’s not worth letting live."

Violet nodded and without any further fanfare sent a void spear straight through the man’s head, killing him instantly and apparently shocking the beastkin at how suddenly she killed him.

Violet wasn’t too worried, she had already gleaned some info on the man due to her instincts, presence and domain washing over him. So she had a feeling that he was not someone Violet would like all that much.

The beastkin words just sealed the deal, plus she did need two more tokens and he just provided one of them. With a nod Violet spoke again, not giving the jackelkin time to process everything.

"Okay done, now you will help guild me to the exit to this maze. If you do I’ll let you go!"

She even smiled wide at the man to show her sincerity. But once again she failed to recognise how her actions may have looked to the beastkin before her.

Because from his point of view he had woken up, witnessed a massive powerful dragon standing down at him, said massive powerful dragon speaking to him twice, instantly killing someone of similar strength to himself with no apparent challenge, then declaring that he would now do her bidding or presumably be killed like the human had a moment ago.

Thus it was that Violet pouted in frustration as the man fainted once again and leaving Violet to stare in bewilderment as she was once again left standing over an unconscious stranger.
