Chapter 368: Through the Storm

As Violet finished off describing her time on this strange island the two sat in silence for some time, each of them content to ponder on their own thoughts for some time.

Violets mind went back to the strange pressure that seemed to exist here, how her domain felt like it was being artificially restrained by the very world around her.

It was a disquieting thing to feel the world itself try to reject your dominion over it. Reminiscent of what she had undertaken whilst evolving into tier 5 and laying claim to her domain for the first time.

Yet it was different, how exactly was challenging to describe.

Whilst the void of existence had denied her claim by its simple nature, for what could dare to contain nothingness where the simple concept of ownership was a fallacy. There it was not a direct rejection of her dominion but Violet actively fighting against the very nature of the void around her.

Whereas here, on this strange island it was a different matter entirely.

It was not the nature of the world around her that was rejecting her dominion, but a particular aspect of it that seemed to actively reject the void.

Sure reality rejected the void, but that was only in the sense that reality and the void were opposites, one could not exist where the other remained. So the resistance was simply the power it took Violet to reject reality and enforce nothingness.

Here, here she was forced to do more than reject the hold of reality. Here she was forced to contest her dominion against something else entirely, something that, whilst did not actively fight against her dominion, did passively reject her control.

It was a confusing thing to consider, for she had no idea what it was that was resisting her usage of her domain.

Shipley felt not resistance to utilising her presence, that was not blocked. Similarly when battling against the Umbral tiger, she had not noticed that same opposition to the other sovereigns domain of shadows.

No, that beasts domain, whilst not actively being aided, was at the very least not being rejected by the world around them as Violet experienced.

It was a slightly frustrating experience, for Violet knew that her battle against that beast would not have been so challenging if she had been able to utilise her domain to its fullest potential.

Not that the battle would have been easy by any stretch of the imagination, no, just that she would not have struggled quite as much as she had.

Still their was not a lot that Violet could do in this situation other than push on and hope that she could figure out exactly what was causing this reaction with the world around her.

Instinctivly her domain solidified beneath her, her shadow being swallowed by the void as nothingness claimed reality in that space below her.

She felt the resistance, from the natural rejection of reality to the artificial push back of that other thing.

Shaking her head Violet focused back in the hear and now, she was sure that she would be able to figure things out eventually so long as she progressed.

Speaking of progressing, she had been stood there for some time as both herself and Tyre thought things through.

With a light cough to break the silence Violet spoke up.

"So I think i should be heading on out again. Do you wish to head deeper in with me, or?" Violet was conflicted on this point.

Whilst she did like Tyre and was not opposed to spending some time with him. She was also well aware of the difference in power between the two of them.

Whilst Violet would do her best to assist the dwarf she also did not exactly want to have to babysit the man, for one he would slow her down, for the other if she were to get into another battle against another sovereign just being around her could be more dangerous than him being in his own.

"Hmm, no, I don’t think I will. I feel like I should take this challenge by myself. As much as I did appreciate your assistance earlier, I don’t think this trial is something that should be undertaken with the help of someone stronger than oneself. I feel like I will be missing out on something should I follow you."

His words caused that knot of worry to ease up within Violet, glad that he had decided.

She nodded towards him as she responded. "I see, I must say I feel the same. Something about this entire trial is strange yet I too feel like I would miss out on something fundimental were I to not be alone as I advance deeper in."

Violet paused then as Tyre nodded in agreement. "Glad that I am not the only one thinking that way." He chuckled. "But it was good to see you once again Violet. It has been wonderful to see how much you have grown since last we met.

I wish you luck on your journey. Please pass on my greetings to Luna, Susan and Rhyana when next you meet them. And come back to Craigkieth when you next have the chance, drinks will be on me!"

Violet smiled at his words. "Haha thank you Tyre, I wish you luck on your own trial. Don’t go dying now, I will hold you to that offer of a drink! Just none of that alchol stuff, it tastes nasty!"

Violet then watched in mild confusion as Tyre laughed uproariously at her statement, it took him several moments to regain control enough to respond. "Hahaha! Oh don’t worry I’m sure we can find something for you. All the best Violet."

Slightly confused at why he laughed but also sensing that the time to leave had come, Violet simply smiled at him before waving and turning to walk away.

As she made some distance between them her body was enveloped in a purple glow before she was once more back in her slightly reduced true form at 50 meters long, or as she liked to think of it, her ’stealthy’ form. Despite her still massive figure being just about anything but stealthy.

Still when compared to her full size it was if only a tiny bit less conspicuous.

So Violet moved on, soon passing through the valley and entering back into the howling winds of the perpetual storm.
