Accidentally Pregnant With The Billionaire Heir
Chapter 231 The Face of The Nightmare
Alistair
The subterranean corridor leading to the Ultimate Power Laboratory data vault smells of scorched wiring and pulverized concrete. The emergency lighting bathes the smooth walls in a harsh, pulsing crimson glow. I stand perfectly still in the center of the hallway. The custom-fitted black t-shirt stretches tightly over the nano-bulletproof vest I spent countless sleepless nights weaving together in my secret armory. The microscopic synthetic fibers possess dozens of times the tensile strength of standard Kevlar. Tonight, that material is the only thing standing between my family and absolute destruction.
I hold my customized sidearm at a low ready position. Water drips steadily from a fractured overhead pipe, pooling on the polished tiles.
The heavy titanium security door at the far end of the corridor groans under immense structural stress. The Obsidian Triangle operatives brought heavy thermite breaching charges. The metal glows a blinding, superheated white along the locking mechanism.
“Stand your ground,” I command the two Wolfe security guards positioned behind the concrete barricades to my left. “Aim for the lower extremities. They are wearing heavy ceramic plating.”
The titanium door violently explodes inward.
A concussive shockwave rolls down the hallway, carrying a thick cloud of gray concrete dust and the suffocating stench of burning metal. The heavy door slams into the tiled floor, carving a deep trench in the stone.
A massive figure steps through the billowing smoke.
He wears a bright yellow industrial raincoat, slick with rainwater and debris. A grotesque, exaggerated clown mask obscures his face, the painted red smile contorted into a permanent, terrifying sneer. He carries a short-barreled assault rifle.
Jester.
The blood in my veins turns to absolute ice. The operational files did not prepare me for the physical reality of standing face-to-face with the monster who orchestrated my brother’s murder. This is the man who sabotaged Arthur’s plane, slaughtering him and Yvette. This is the man who cornered me in the Blackwood Gorge, poisoning me with military-grade M-209 neurotoxin and leaving me paralyzed in the mud.
This is the man who broke into Emily’s childhood home thirteen years ago and shot her mother four times in the chest just to steal a stone.
“Covering fire!” the security guard to my left shouts.
The two guards open fire, raining a hail of suppression rounds down the corridor. Jester does not retreat. He raises his rifle and returns a precise, devastating burst of automatic fire. The heavy caliber rounds shred the concrete barricades. Both of my guards fall backward, clutching bleeding wounds on their arms and shoulders.
Jester drops the empty magazine from his rifle. He reaches for a fresh one on his tactical belt.
I do not shoot him. A bullet from a distance is far too merciful for a man who tore my entire world apart. I want to feel his bones break under my hands. I drop my handgun onto the floor. It clatters loudly against the tiles.
I break into a dead sprint down the corridor.
Jester looks up, the red emergency lights reflecting off the empty black eye holes of his clown mask. He abandons the reload, dropping the rifle, and braces for the impact.
I cross the final ten feet and launch my entire body forward. My shoulder connects directly with the center of his chest. The impact sounds like a car crash. The sheer kinetic force lifts him completely off his feet. We slam violently into the plaster wall. The drywall shatters, raining white dust over our shoulders.
I bring my right fist up in a brutal, sweeping upper-cut. My knuckles collide with the hard plastic of the clown mask. The plastic cracks down the center, but the blow forces his head back against the wall.
“You took my brother,” I snarl, driving my left knee directly into his abdomen. “You took Arthur.”
Jester grunts, absorbing the strike with terrifying resilience. He wraps his massive hands around my throat, squeezing with inhuman strength.
“And I will take your wife,” a deep, synthesized voice rasps from behind the cracked plastic mask.
Jester
The billionaire fights like a trained operative. The initial charge knocks the wind entirely out of my lungs. I expected a soft, pampered executive hiding behind an army of private security contractors. Alistair Wolfe moves with the lethal, unhesitating precision of a seasoned killer.
I maintain my grip on his throat, using my weight to pivot and shove him away from the ruined plaster wall. I drive him backward, slamming his spine into the heavy steel frame of the corridor support beam.
He does not gasp for air. He does not panic. He brings his forearms up in a swift, sharp motion, breaking my chokehold. He follows the block with a devastating hook to my floating ribs. The strike penetrates the gaps in my tactical armor. Sharp, searing pain shoots up my side.
I step back, reassessing the threat. The automatic rifle rests on the floor ten feet away, completely out of reach. The two wounded security guards are groaning behind the rubble, incapable of interfering. We are isolated in the narrow, red-lit hallway.
I reach down to the Kydex sheath strapped to my thigh. I draw a nine-inch serrated combat knife. The blackened steel absorbs the emergency lighting.
Wolfe does not retreat. He raises his hands, settling into a flawless close-quarters defensive stance.
I lunge forward, leading with a deceptive feint to his face before dropping my shoulder and driving the knife directly toward the center of his chest. The blade strikes him squarely over the sternum.
I expect the sickening resistance of tearing flesh and breaking bone.
Instead, the steel tip halts abruptly. A loud, scraping screech echoes down the hallway as the serrated edge grinds against the black t-shirt. The fabric does not tear. The blade deflects completely, sliding off his chest without leaving a single mark.
The woven nanofibers. The intelligence reports mentioned a proprietary armor project, but I never anticipated this level of kinetic resistance. The vest is entirely impenetrable.
Wolfe exploits my momentary imbalance. He steps inside my guard, grabbing the wrist of my knife hand. He twists violently. The tendons in my forearm scream in protest. He drives his elbow straight into my face. The impact shatters the left side of the clown mask. Shards of sharp plastic dig into my cheek, drawing warm blood.
I roar in frustration. The mission is spiraling entirely out of control. I drop my center of gravity, sweeping my right leg in a wide, punishing arc. The heavy combat boot connects with the back of Wolfe’s knee. The joint buckles.
He falls hard onto the tiles. I throw my entire body weight on top of him, pinning his hips to the floor. I abandon the useless strikes to his armored chest. I raise the combat knife high above my head, adjusting my grip to drive the blade directly down into the exposed, unprotected skin of his throat.
