Chapter 322: Mana Regeneration Potion
But contrary to Virat’s expectations, Leo was deep in thought.
“Superior body? The talent’s name sounds nowhere weak…” he muttered, recalling Veronica’s words about him being able to hunt even a mid-2 star beast if given time.
“You keep the things, but mind you—you will be the one buying the bullets from now on, and even replacing the gun if it wears down.”
Virat was left speechless at Leo’s words; he couldn’t think of anything to say to thank him before Leo turned to depart. But just then, Veronica called out.
“Leader Leo!”
Leo turned back to see Veronica running toward him, several glass vials clinking lightly in her hand.
“This—I made the preliminary version of a mana regeneration potion from Fluxsoil Heart leaves. From my estimate, it should currently provide a 50% absorption boost to 3-star beings and lower. Sorry, I wasn’t able to make the full potential potions…”
Leo took the 5 vials from her hands and examined them. The system prompt didn’t pop up, making it clear they weren’t of considerable quality. The liquid inside the vials was blue in colour, emitting faint light blue colour. This meant the potion was likely pseudo-blue-tier.
Veronica had said she was an amateur alchemist whose capabilities were limited to a 3-star or lower being. Being able to make a potion in such a short amount of time, even with limited facilities, was indeed great.
“No need to worry. You might be having trouble even creating this without a proper environment. You did a great job.”
“Thank you, leader Leo!” she said, genuinely happy at his praise.
“Lord Leo doesn’t like being called leader,” Virat said from the side.
“Oh… so, Lord Leo?”
Leo was about to raise his hand to stop the nonsense, but Veronica had already started calling him that, growing comfortable within seconds.
“Lord, I was actually thinking of making enhancement potions of various attributes, but I am falling short on funds. I would like the territory’s help.”
“Yeah, sure. By the way, how much will you sell these to us for?”
Veronica thought for a moment before answering.
“Lord, the raw materials were all provided by you, so the cost of a pseudo blue-tier, 1-hour 50% mana regeneration boosting potion will be reduced from 5,000 AC to 2,000 AC for you. That means a total of 10,000 AC for all vials for you. But if I account for our housing charges and then the tax for staying in your mana-rich land per month—and if you buy all 5—then the cost comes down from 10,000 AC to 7,500 AC as my tax and living cost add up to 2,500 AC.”
Hearing that, Leo frowned.
“Wait. Who decided the housing charges and taxes?” Leo asked after Veronica mentioned those things, because he still hadn’t set any of that.
“Lord, since you haven’t decided it yet, I took the average of what is normal across the academy. For land, the standard charge is supposed to be 10 AC per square meter multiplied by the mana density in the land area. The total land I have inside my shed—which includes my alchemical apparatus—is 10 square meters, and the mana density there is 20% more than the natural environment. So it’s 2,000 AC.”
“As for the housing charge, there would be none if I were the one to build it. But since it was you who did that and the facilities are up to mark—thick walls, stone floor, water supply, washroom, bedding, even tables to keep my apparatus—the price should be the area of the land multiplied by the house rating out of 10.”
“As for the house rating, with all things combined, I would say it’s a 5 out of 10. So a total of 500 AC per month.”
“Another area where tax is cut is the profession. Me, as an alchemist, would obviously give higher tax than a person who is a fighter. This is because I can only do my work peacefully if fighters protect me. With that, on average, territory leaders take a 50% tax on goods that we produce and sell. Of course, what I have said is standard—you can always choose to increase or decrease charges and taxes.”
“So in that sense, the 10,000 AC will be reduced to 5,000 AC if you were to buy all personally.”
Hearing Veronica explain everything, Leo felt a headache forming.
What the hell? Is administration this complicated?
He shook his head to throw out the unnecessary information. But what he did catch on to was that buying things personally to use on ’himself’ would be cost-inefficient. If people outside the territory were to buy it, the total income Veronica would get is 25,000 AC. Of that, if he took 50%, he would receive 12,500 AC.
But if he himself were to buy it, the cost would be 10,000 AC due to him providing the raw materials. Out of this, there would be a 50% cut for the territory leader—himself—amounting to 5,000 AC. He would spend 5,000 AC to buy all 5 vials, and since these low-tier vials would be useless to him, he could sell them for 5,000 AC each. A profit of 20,000 AC.
If Leo were to do this, Veronica would suffer a loss of 7,500 AC.
Tsk tsk, whatever I thought can be compared to the thoughts of a scumbag territory leader. Leo mused internally, though he kept the thought tucked away in the corner of his mind.
“Good job, Veronica. But I suppose you must be having trouble doing your experiments in there?” Leo asked.
Veronica opened her lips to say something, but then she recalled how she had rated her house 5 out of 10. She winced internally; she had dared to rate her house so low even when she had the largest one of all due to being an alchemist.
She reluctantly nodded. As an alchemist, she needed up-to-mark facilities. Many times during her experiments, she had to run out of her shed due to smoke filling the insides.
“Hm. Don’t worry, the living conditions will be upgraded soon enough.”
Veronica raised a brow when Leo didn’t seem angry, almost as if he understood her situation. He was the first noble she had seen who was this considerate.

A/N: I admit I am not that great in administrative work, so if any of you have any suggestion and are willing to share it, I will be very grateful.
